Split between ?Real? and ?Asset? Economies Never More Clear Than Now
2012-02-03 17:25:00 Many average investors like to think that the performance of the STOCK market is closely tied to the underlying ECONOMY. And in most normal times, that’s true. But the current market environment is anything but normal. I say that because we’re in the midst of yet another round of money-printing-driven action. The fingerprints are everywhere … Super-low volume rallies in stocks. Levitation in gold. A slump in the euro first, driven by the European Central Bank’s backdoor money-printing LTRO program, followed by a slump in the dollar, driven by more dovish talk out of the U.S. Federal Reserve. All these clues tell me that the “asset” economy is floating on a sea of liquidity … for . . . → Read More: Split between ?Real? and ?Asset? Economies Never More Clear Than Now

My Next Real-Money Portfolio Stock Could Easily Gain 50% or More
2012-01-30 16:30:00 When you voluntarily cease doing business with your biggest customer, you best have a good explanation. If not, then investors will think you're nuts — and dump your stock. But car battery maker Exide Technologies (Nasdaq: XIDE) had a good excuse. The company's biggest customer, Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) made life unbearable, asking for price cut after price cut, making it almost impossible to earn a profit. Management hoped investors would appreciate that sales would fall but margins would sharply improve. Investors initially balked when the Wal-Mart decision was announced in February 2010, pushing the stock down more than 20% to $6 in just one day. Eventually, investors got wise to the logic of the Wal-Mart divorce, and a . . . → Read More: My Next Real-Money Portfolio Stock Could Easily Gain 50% or More

Anonymous Taking Down Facebook Tomorrow? Is The Threat Real or Fake?
2012-01-27 09:00:00 I read on CNET the other day that Anonymous is planning a massive cyber attack on the social networking giant Facebook tomorrow, January 28th at 12:00AM. Then later on down the article it says that a tweet from @AnonOps said that the video is a hoax. So is the threat real?It may be real if enough idiots actually listen to the video and download the DDoS tools Low Orbit Ion Cannon or High Orbit Ion Cannon as the notes for the Youtube video suggest. It may not be officially sponsored by the group who started Anonymous, but then again Anonymous is an idea not a group right? So if enough people get together, then that makes the threat real, however doubtful their success may be.In the video the computerised voice says that even though Facebook has over 60,000, they can still be brought down. Possible maybe, but doubtful. According to the response from Facebook's representative in the CNET article:We expect Anonymous just like we expect any other attack on any other day. Due to ou...

Four Paths to Real Estate Profits with ETFs
2012-01-26 18:07:00 I’ve spent my investment career following sector momentum, and it’s worked out pretty well. ETFs make it even better. Right now my indicators show a lot of short-term strength in real estate. Personally, I find it hard to believe the housing market has truly bottomed. My colleague Mike Larson recently gave you some good reasons to doubt the housing rally. In my experience, trends (either up or down) endure longer than most people think possible. So it makes sense to at least be aware of the alternatives on both sides. Today I’ll tell you about four paths to the real estate sector with ETFs. 5 Stocks For A Real Estate Rebound
2012-01-07 00:03:00 Are they finally here? A real bottom and ensuing rebound in the real estate market? Time will tell, but the recent housing data has at least been improving. Add to that, William Dudley, president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, said today that proper monetary policy that complements other efforts by the government could help the housing within a year or two. President of the Boston Federal Reserve, Eric Rosengren, said the Fed could help the housing market by buying more mortgage backed securities, according to Reuters. The recent spate of good or less bad housing data aside, it should be noted the housing market is still a long way from being out of the woods. Then again, by waiting for the real estate market to look picture perfect, investors can easily miss some big gains in housing-related stocks. With that thought in mind, let's have a look at some stocks that are poised to benefit if and when the U.S. housing market legitimately rebounds.
