NABC Lake Winnebago Recap
2012-05-18 17:45:00
Fishing the North American Bass Circuit with good buddy Josh Douglas came with much excitement and mutual high expectations for results.  We were able to put some practice time in on the lake the previous weekend and the Friday before the tournament. We found some things we really liked in our practice, but the main issue was how obvious these spots were and we had high certainty of plenty of company come tournament day.  The primary pattern we found fish in was shallow largemouth that trying to spawn or just barely on the front or backside of their annual ritual.  Our practice was pretty consistent, finding a few good fish here and there until late on Friday afternoon before tournament registration.  We found a small little boat canal all by itself that was stuffed with bass.  Josh and I both agreed it was one of the craziest things either of us had seen.  This small shallow canal, was just loaded with bass, big bass, bluegills, slab crappies, gar, in f...

2012-04-28 05:01:00

Now, Fleener is re-united with his Cardinal teammate, the first pick of (Read More...)

2011-05-02 00:49:00

After a brush with the Secret Service, the Doctor, companions and Canton take the TARDIS to a deserted warehouse near Cape Canaveral to find the girl. Supernatural Frontierland Recap
2011-04-23 08:05:00
What an episode! Dean was easily my favorite part of the show tonight along with several jaw droppers! Yes some serious stuff, and what about that blanket?! If you missed it, get our recap of Supernatural Frontierland here, the episode where the Winchester brothers visit the Wild Wild West! Usually when show runners look like they?re about to stray from the main storyline, opting for more of a special presentation (so to speak), the episode can sometimes end up feeling like a filler, not Supernatural though! Frontierland with Sam and Dean not only entertained with their witty dialogue (posse magnet and Clint Eastwood!), but they stayed on track, serving the big picture, while letting us see them in a new landscape. Picking up from last week, they delved into Castiel?s secretive behavior, and Sam and Dean?s latest problem with the Mother of All – Eve! So what where the main highlights of the hour? For starters, the hour kicks off with a glum Sam who is not nearly as excited as ...
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s “Last Words” Recap: We’ve Got Your Good, Ba
2011-01-18 17:41:00
THE GOOD: While not exactly laugh-out-loud funny, last night’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER did provide the gang with two very important things: 1) An incredibly funny subplot for Robin “Vice Girl” Scherbatsky, who, thanks to a magical purse that would give Mary Poppins a run for her money was at the ready to provide a grieving Marshall with anything that he may need to get through his father’s funeral. And more importantly, 2) A “For Your Consideration” Emmy reel for Jason Segel. Seriously. Just how good was Segel’s performance? So good that we genuinely found ourselves getting emotional during his tearful goodbye to his father, despite the fact that we never particularly found his macho Dad or his Minnesota roots nearly as funny as the show’s writers did. Also falling under the category of “good” was the fact that this tragedy, complete with its reminder that “life is short,” served as the impetus for Bar...
Recap 2010 : Social Networking
2010-12-30 03:30:00
If you thought Social Networking was big in 2009, you should have seen it 2010. Last year, Social Networking/Social Media was plain vanilla Bruce Wayne(in a manner of speaking), this year it became Batman – gadgets et al and went mainstream. Social Media dominated dinner table conversations – and I’m talking about tech non-savvy 30+ year olds. Chintoo, Mintoo, the family elders, Mom and even the Post Office all got on to Facebook. Idiots..er people even washed their dirty linen over Social Media. But on a slightly more serious note. 2010 was an extremely eventful year for Social Networking. It did everything from fighting crime to recovering money to organizing protests. Twitter shone, Facebook shone even more while Google toiled away with little success. Facebook started with the year with 350 million users and ended it well on its way to 600 million. Twitter after touching 50Million Tweets per day early in year had notched up an impressive 106 million users by ...

Recap 2010 : The Great Telecom Saga(s)!
2010-12-28 14:00:00
This year, the Telecom industry gave us more twists and turns than the ever thickening plots of 2 Christopher Nolan and Stanley Kubrick films combined! I’m not sure how that would work, but basically there were a lot. Many more than we would care for, yet had to keep up because the direct affect it has on our lives. 3 stories played out simultaneously and separately as the year began. But as the year went on, the plots began interweaving. And even as the year ended, neither story has unravelled itself completely making sure we’re hooked and waiting for the sequel – 2011. Mobile Number Portability was ‘carried’ over from last year. Early in the year, 3G Auctions and MNP were given deadlines of February and March respectively. But any relief was short lived. And we should have guessed it would all go wrong again when MNP was given an April Fool’s deadline. And it was postponed again to the end of June, causing Rajiv to christen it Mobile Number Post...

My Stock Trading Activities Thus Far - October Recap
2010-10-31 19:49:00
Another recap of what I was doing in October on my trading adventures. I had written a September Recap previously. FYI, I have gotten more involved in the past and this is just my latest attempt. I find this stuff really interesting, so it is easy to put an hour into it here and there. Super Trader - Van Tharp I read this book next. It has a number of short chapters about a variety of topics for people wanting to trade actively, techniques, controlling emotions, creating a plan, etc. Not a great book to start with, but a nice easy read if you already have some good background knowledge. The Complete Trading For A Living - Elder Another read recommended by someone. Quite interesting and discusses a lot of different strategies in depth. He also proposes his own strategies. Worth a read and you will find it quick to read if you already have read similar books first (like Van Tharp's). Continued Paper Trading Same as last month. Used a few techniques and the TradeScores w...
SURVIVOR NICARAGUA Recap: Fish Mongering & Freudian Slips
2010-10-29 13:34:00
By: Josh Wigler Catching Your Fish & Eating It Too: There are still players in this game that I’ve barely even mentioned in previous SURVIVOR recaps, if I’ve mentioned them at all. (Just one more reason why I hate when this show has too many contestants.) But something tells me I’m going to be talking about Jane a lot more from here on out. Crazy old Jane, the fish monger of Nicaragua who feeds herself first and provides for the tribe second. I love that! SURVIVOR is a selfish game, no doubt, but it’s rare that people make moves like feeding themselves over others without paying the price. That’s what happened to Tyrone a few weeks back, and Jane could easily suffer a similar fate if caught. But the way the scene was edited, I view Jane’s private fish meal as less of an ongoing thing and more of a moment where she chose to personally reward herself. Good on her. Too rare do the people playing SURVIVOR actually get to stop, smell the roses and ...
My Stock Trading Activities Thus Far - September Recap
2010-10-05 12:21:00
So I started learning more about stock trading again as of August 30th, 2010. I have done lots in the past, but have been more passive about the past few years (since 2006/07 maybe). What have I done so far? Well here is a list: Paper Trading (fake stock trading) using the TradeScores website to keep track of the trades. It is a good tool as it will execute stop losses automaticaly for you, provides comments section to write down information, and keeps the basic metrics that I am measuring my system on. I use StockScores website to filter stocks I want to trade and apply other strategies I have learned for when to exit on how big the trade should be. Read the book Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom. Started to read Super Trader. Took Dr. Van K. Tharp's Trader Test to see what personality of trader I am and then read the free documentation he has to go along with it. It is a PDF with some links back to his website too. Did some reading on-line. In particular, there is a ...

2010-04-12 16:02:00
Watch Mayweather Vs Mosley Fight OnlineThe first episode of the Mayweather vs. Mosley 24/7 Reality SeriesThe first episode of Floyd Mayweaher & Shane Mosley 24 7 premiered on Saturday evening, and the episode starts with an explanation of how these two fighters had never met in the ring despite their long and storied careers but finally it?s happening. Recap 2009 – Local Search & Classifieds Space
2009-12-31 08:30:00
This year we asked you the question, whether Indian search engines could ever tackle the Google threat? Statistically speaking the local search engines have hardly given Google a fight this year. And that’s pretty inevitable until we realize what the core business model of each of the various engines is. Search  alone as an activity is not confined to the online space in India. Hence, while the reports gave us an idea of the emerging players in the industry, it did not necessarily mean one company was bigger than another due to the higher market share. So now lets take a look at how it all took place this year for local search engines in India. GETIT Infoservices, a producer of yellow pages and directories in India raised Rs 20 crores in funding from Helion Ventures earlier this year. Being an offline company GETIT started spreading its wings then while one could still compare it with JustDial who was then funded by Saif Partners. To draw attention of JustDial’s already...

The Unavoidable Recap - Recipes of 2009!
2009-12-31 07:33:00
I hadn't intended to do this, but then I am doing some other things tonight that I hadn't intended to do originally anyway. Before you let your imagination go flying, TH and I are going to one of those super crowded NYE parties we very dutifully avoid each year. I hate crowds. He hates crowds. We are so totally made for each other. This year? We don't have enough friends in SG for a house party and we did the "just you and me, first NYE after marriage" thing last year which was okay but not something you want to do two years in a row. So we are going to be brave and face the crowds. Who knows, maybe we would be converts after this. So 2009. Its been a horrible year for almost everyone I know. Part of it is definitely due to the recession but then some were beyond that. We had a bad year too, but I still can't help feeling blessed for all the good stuff that happened this year. But this post is about Edible Garden and the incredible year its been. I cooked a lot,...
Recap 2009 – B2B Portals
2009-12-30 08:33:00
There was a tug of war between B2B service portals in 2009. All of them have tried their best to prove themselves better then the competitor. Let’s have a quick flashback to B2B industry. IndiaMART.com 2009 started with continuation to Intel’s funding in IndiaMART.com and just after funding – IndiaMART has roped in Deep Kalra, Founder and CEO, MakeMyTrip.com and Nachiket Mor, president, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, as independent members of its board of directors. Then they indulged in the debate for “India” in its domain despite of catering to global buyers and sellers, however they have already booked a domain i.e., tradezeal.com. In April 09, an IAMAI report announced that IndiaMART has 60% market share in India’s online B2B marketplace (remember report is about Indian market not global B2B marketplace). Later, they appointed Quasar Media as its digital agency and were going to spend Rs. 25 crore on marketing. They launched a new sourcing portal to attra...

Recap 2009 – Facebook vs Twitter
2009-12-29 12:19:00
2009 – Was it a Facebook’s or was it Twitter’s year of grace? Every single morning when you log into your laptop and all you can read on the WATblog’s and Techcrunch’s of the world is some or the other thing about Twitter or Facebook, isn’t that enough to dedicate a whole section to the round up 2009 to these two social networking giants?! Social media was the hype of year 2009 and I guess it will continue to be for atleast the next couple of years. 2009 laid the foundation for the viral growth of these networks with the subscriber numbers increasing by millions and the features by trillions. Although Facebook has got an edge by having a strong focus on user security and privacy as compared to Twitter which is caught in a mad rush to add users and completely neglecting its servers and their security. The year of new (and similar?) features – It started with Facebook getting a Twitter like feed on its homepage and then it gradually progre...

Recap 2009: 3G In India
2009-12-29 08:51:00
The much awaited 3G services on our mobile phones became the most annoying fact after all the delays, as they just kept us hanging on. The Great Indian 3G Saga has come a full circle this year and that ray of hope still appears somewhere in all the darkness that it’s hype had created. Let us take a look at how it all went right from the beginning of Y2K9. Before we could get some positive news, it all started with Delay # 3 which took place early January, which was due to the difference of opinion between Finance Ministry and DoT on the base price for the license. It was predicted that a little less regulation by TRAI and DoT of the telecom space could actually be beneficial. After all that timeline which got everybody excited in Y2K8 - November 30th: Auction design, bid document to be prepared December 15th: Inviting operators to bid December 31th: Pre-qualification of bidders January 15th: Auction to be completed January 25th: Signing of contracts with successful bidders J...

Recap 2009: Online Travel
2009-12-29 08:33:00
The year started with some bad news for OTA’s as the economy was still reeling under the pressure of recession and 26/11 shock of 2008. We interviewed Deep Kalra of Makemytrip early this year on his views about the recession driven economy. OTA’s started bolstering non air revenue streams like bus travel as well as train travel and also started looking at ad revenue and alternative payments like cash cards to provide more options to the user to book online for their tickets. So while ticketing was facing the brunt of the recession hotel bookings seemed still lucrative as Hotels.com launched itself in India. Some OTA’s looked at the franchisee model of expansion to beat the recession while some looked at DTH distribution. There were others who tied up with portals and new players came up with newer models like bidding for travel tickets and there were some who launched chatbots as well. As the mid year approached and the airlines came under pressure they launched t...

Recap 2009: Online Matrimony Portals
2009-12-28 13:11:00
The year 2009 wasn’t that great for Matrimony portals as well but that still didn’t deter them from starting the year with a bang. So while bharatmatrimony launched video section called Bharatmatrimony.tv, Shaadi on the other hand took matrimony to TV itself with a tie up announcement with Star Plus. Bharatmatrimony also went on a tie up spree early in the year by tying up with Idea cellular to reach mobile users and with Itz cash card for alternate payments. Bharatmatrimony also launched a unique feature of face recognition to facilitate (and maybe fool) users into finding their celebrity look alike partner. As the middle of the year approached Shaadi took the call of handing over their ad sales to a specialist in Admagnet. Post mid year Consim Info i.e. Bharatmatrimony group announced its plans of deferring its IPO which was scheduled to be this year. Another indication of the slowdown impacting business across the board. Shaadi.com became innovative with its offering...

Recap 2009: Job Sites & Recruitment Portals
2009-12-28 10:50:00
2009 wasn’t by any imagination the best year for Job sites and recruitment portals. The year started with some bad news by leading Job site Naukri.com Founder stating on video that there was a drop in hiring. Then came the shut down news of Techtribe and Yellojobs both of whom were funded by VC’s to penetrate the jobs market in India. Around the same time naukri launched its freshers portal in firstnaukri.com. Though naukri showed decent financial results in Q3 and Q4 it still maintained that this was a period of slow growth for the space. So while referral sites like Techtribe were shutting down newer players like Zyoin were coming to the fore which pointed towards opportunities in niche recruitment space. Even naukri kept innovating during the first half of the year by launching new features like chatbots. By the middle of the year the overall job scene started to improve or atleast thats what Naukri’s own jobspeak survey was suggesting. Seeing this competing jo...
