Recap: Redskins vs Rams: Redskins Need a New Play-Caller
2009-09-21 16:06:00
Another one of those games where a win feels like a loss. Redskins Nation seems to be split into two camps "a win is a win" and "this team can't blow out the Rams...time to call Shanahan." I'm in the middle.  I do think it is time to strip Zorn of his play-calling. Am I the only one that thinks Zorn would be a great flag-football play-caller? Third and 5 in the red zone and you have Clinton Portis throwing the ball? When that play came into Jason Campbell, I can't imagine what his first reaction must have been. Do you think Zorn has a play in his playbook where the TE does a post over the middle...stops...does five jumping jacks (to freeze the safeties)...then goes deep? I just don't get it. We drafted all these WRs to be our red zone guys, and we have Clinton Portis throwing the ball. At least TRY a fade. Pump fakes are a great tool to freeze a corner....didn't see any of those. I also question going for it on 4th up TWO points with two minutes to go in the game. How abou...

Foreclosure Recap ? Week #37
2009-09-18 18:52:00

Ask Wale: Steelers' defense, longer NFL season and Packers' recap
2009-09-17 17:54:00
ASK WALEE-mail me here. I will be answering your questions about the Bears and life in the NFL every week on my blog. I am a Bears fan in West Virginia and this is Steeler country. I have been waiting on this game, every since the Steelers beat us down 4 years ago. My question is do you remember that game? And if so, do you all use that as a motivation even though it was a few years back? I know I remember it and it seemed as if they was just more physical. I say its payback time! Bear Down on the Steelers. - Thanks, Charles McCroskey...
NFL Week One Recap
2009-09-14 06:13:00
While we all may still be reeling from yesterday's brutal performance by the Bears, here's what happened in the rest of the NFL games you may have missed from Week One....Miami   &-nbsp; 7Atlanta  19The Falcons picked up right where they left off last season, as Matt Ryan performed well dispelling any thoughts about a sophomore slump.  The ex Boston College Field General fired 2 touchdown passes and threw for 229 yards as Atlanta handled Miami easily.  A rough performance for the Dolphins Sunday, as last year's AFC East champs couldn't muster any offense until a Chad Pennington 9 yard TD strike to Ricky Williams with 3:22 left on the clock.  And for some local flavor, former NIU star Michael Turner rushed...
Lupe Fiasco live at Hawkapalooza recap

Lupe Fiasco invaded the University of Iowa last Thursday night for a free show as part of Hawkapalooza. 10,000 people filled Hubbard Park to witness yet another electric performance from the Chicago MC. Friends of GWHH were on hand and came through with some coverage of the show. The pictures (above and below) are courtesy of S-Preme who was 'strictly... rollin'.... V.I. .....P!' 'True Blood' Ep. 10 recap: It ended too soon
2009-08-24 15:49:00
Bon Temps wasn't quite the same town when Sookie, Jason and Bill got back from Dallas. HBO photos I wasn't sure how the latest "True Blood" episode would fare against last week's Godric episode, but Alan Ball and company outdid themselves. (Meet actor Alan Hyde, who plays Godric, at Access Hollywood.) Despite HBO short-changing us with a 45-minute episode instead of the usual 60-minute one, I'm thrilled with Sunday's "New World in My View." If you haven't watched it, get back into that coffin. Spoilers ahead....

Recap of National Poker Week
2009-08-14 18:02:00
I recieved a letter from the Poker Players Association today with a recap of the happenings for National Poker Week that had occured this past July. I felt I should post it here just for those readers that may be from other countries or those that are not members of the PPA, or even those that are and might not have recieved their letter by way of e-mail. There was a lot that happened during this organized event, and hopefully Congress will be taking a further look at some of the bills that have been proposed and perhaps even repeal the UIGEA soon after they return from their recess. Recap of National Poker Week: more than 375,000 signed the poker petition for President Obama more than 225,000 letters were sent to Capitol Hill more than 1,000 calls to Congressional offices more than 100 meetings with members of the U.S. House and Senate For those that are not members of the PPA and reside in the U.S., I still encourage you to join the fight for our poker rights now. .

Comic Con Recap: Joss Whedon Talks DOLLHOUSE, DR. HORRIBLE and Why Corporat
2009-07-25 05:03:00
Move over Kevin Smith, there’s a new man who we’d like to see take his ridiculously entertaining schtick of self-depracation and hilarity on the road. His name: Joss Whedon. As you’ll quickly see from our recap of his Q&A direct from San Diego Comic Con 2009. On the future of Victor Joss Whedon: Spoiler Alert! Victor might get better, quickly. On where the idea came to cast the hilarious Alan Tyduk as a villain? I’ve met him. He’s an extraordinarily versatile actor and has actually got a fighting streak in him that you won’t see in Wash or in 28 days… no, which is the one without Sandra Bullock? One what he’s reading for inspiration. Wired Magazine is pretty much all I read and have time for. I’m reading Julie & Julia but haven’t come up with a lot for the show. We’ll save Eliza saying “bon appetite!” for sweeps. On other writers in the writer’s room coming up with ideas that make you thin...
Comic Con Recap: DEXTER
2009-07-24 18:15:00
Photo Credit: E!Online Roll Call: In attendance were Michael C Hall (Dexter), Julie Benz (Rita), Jennifer Carpenter (Deb), John Lithgow (Who joins the cast this season as the Trinity Killer and oddly enough got the panel’s largest cheer) alongside Executive Producers Tony Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Clyde Phillips and Melissa Rosenberg (Who also has the dubious distinction of scripting the Twilight movies) It’s a Boy!: According to proud papa Michael C. Hall himself, “the baby [named Harrison in honor of Papa Harry] has yet to exhibit any signs of having a ‘Dark Passenger’ of his very own, but the possibility is always there.” Adds Benz, “I hope my genes take over.” Get Ready to Rumble: Those anticipating a showdown between John Litghow’s Trinity killer and Michael C. Hall’s Dexter shouldn’t hold their breath. At least according to Lithgow, who didn’t exactly have an answer when asked what it’s like to work w...

Chicago Cubs Game Recap: Don't Look At Lou

Cubs v. Sox Game Recap/Podcast Preview
2009-06-28 22:59:00
"And Jim is SURE this is the team I was supposed to have?" Well, that sucked. If you can stand to read the recap, feel free to help yourself here. Personally, I've found this day to be pretty depressing. We lose to the Sox, I have to buy cheap beer for an over-the-hill former Sock, the US Men's Soccer Team completely choked in our biggest game EVER against Brazil, and Billy Mays is dead. I invite everyone to vent their frustrations over this team, Lou, Milton, the barage of media coverage of Michael Jackson's body, and whatever else you want to talk about tonight at LOHO's weekly podcast tonight at 8:00 CT/9:00 ET. Topics this week will include Matt...

The first day of the MLB draft is done. The Jays selected four pitchers with their first five picks. Game Recap/Podcast Preview
2009-05-17 23:46:00
Try not giving up so many hits next time All good things must come to an end, including really fun 5-game win streaks that pull you within half a game of first. This is about all you need to know: Derrek Lee hit a solo homer and an RBI double for the Cubs. Rich Harden (4-2), who took the loss, gave up four runs on six hits over six innings while striking out seven. The loss ended his personal win streak at four. Oh, and believe it or not, Derrek Lee, who OBVIOUSLY has been listening to the LOHO podcasts (wherein we discuss replacing him with Hufflepuff on a weekly basis), went 5-4 today. Speaking of the podcast, tune in tonight at 8:00 pm ct/9:00 et for an hour of fun, friction, and Cubs baseball. Easing the ever-present tension between Matt and I tonight will be John and Steve of the hilarious Wasting Away in Wrigleyville. Topics on the menu include: The week in review The week head DLee v. Hufflepuff, part 17,346,845 Julie getting her ire up over Milton Bradley The 2009 Cubs: I...
Friday Night Game Recap
2009-05-09 05:30:00
The Cubs played the Brewers tonight, and looked like they were going to win it going into the 8th. Until the dreaded pigpen showed up. I mean, seriously. Julie's love interest, Aaron Heillman, destroyed a decent start from some guy named Randy Wells (5 innings, 5 hits and 2 BBs but 5 Ks and no runs) and two nice innings from the guy in the pen with the surgically repaired arm -- Angel something? Anway.  Point being that Heillman came in and gave up a loooong two run HR on a meatball to Braun.  Maim, after this shit, you better stop talking about Braun's "good looks".  Game over, Brewers take the lead and 84-year-old Trevor Hoffman completely shuts down what's left of the Cubs lineup. Oh yeah, and Ramirez died or something.  Great. So that's that for my first attempt at a game thread this year.  This team sucks, my favorite player is dead, and the pigpen did what it does best -- gave up the game.  Let's all cheer to ending up in 4th place, everyone!
Game Recap/Podcast Preview
2009-05-04 01:28:00
We won't be seeing this for a while Let's start right off with the bad news: Carlos Zambrano left in the fifth inning of Sunday's 6-4 victory over the Marlins -- one for which he earned the 'W' -- and pinch-runner Rich Harden scored the eventual go-ahead run when Derrek Lee hit a grand slam. Zambrano will be evaluated the next two days to determine the extent of damage, but his next start Friday in Houston is in serious question. Oy. There's no point in freaking out yet. We'll just have to wait and see what the next two days bring. Other than our ace pitcher possibly hitting the DL, the Cubs had a smashing day. Literally. Every starter but Kosuke and Bradley got a hit, with Lee acting as the star of the day, hitting a grand slam in the 5th to put the Cubs up permanently. Don't miss tonight's podcast, where the lovely and talented Max Power will fill in for Matt, who's decided to ditch us for the evening. Be ready to call in with your questions/comments, especially the fo...
Friday Game Recap
2009-05-02 00:09:00
I'm still trying to figure out what to say. Let me see if I can tell you why: Theriot got one hit, but it was a grand slam when we most needed it. DLee got two hits. Soto got two hits. REEDZ got two hits. Spellcheck, Patton, Cotts and Marmol managed not to give up a single hit. Gregg gave up two hits, but there's one in every bunch. The most important thing to remember, is that everyone has to do everything EXACTLY the same way we did it today. I don't care if it's Saturday, you will all be at your desks at the same time tomorrow as you were today. You will wear the same clothes. You will eat the same meals. You will post the exact same things you posted today. For my part, I will show up at my doctor's office at the same time, even though I have no appointment. And I will drop my kids off at their non-existent Saturday Tae Kwon Do class. What happens after I drive off is irrelevant. Gotta support the team. Exactly. The. Same. Got it? (points at every single LOHO reader.) Box
Game Recap
2009-04-30 00:18:00
After the Sucky Dbacks Game From my couch Dear Lou, You might wonder why I'm writing a game recap before the game is actually over. Well, I'll tell you: it's because I've seen enough. I rarely blame managers for losses, except when they do things like cost us an out because they don't know how to execute a double switch or fail to take out a rookie pitcher who is getting ROCKED in, say, Game 6 of the NLCS. But other than that, I feel that the game is won or lost by those on the field. Speaking of those on the field, let's take a look at who YOU'VE been sending out there, lately. Soriano (good. leave him alone to hit HRs at the top of the order) Theriot (not happy about him hitting so high, but whatever) Bradley (yes, good. please encourage him to take up yoga and not get injured so much) Lee (wrong, wrong, WRONG. I'm sorry, i realize that he's a bazillion time all-star and all that, but you have a guy sitting on your bench with a .900 plus OPS right now. you always say 'i...
NJ Devils (First Round) Recap?.
2009-04-29 07:45:00
This did not quite come out of nowhere. You get that impression from Brent Sutter but I refuse to believe it. The bottom line is the New Jersey Devils came up short pretty much since Game 1. Even when they won…you were left with the feeling that it could fall apart. Tonight it did. ...
Game Recap: Offense continues to hibernate, Dusty prevails
2009-04-23 23:09:00
Pretty ridiculous. What happened to the Cubs who would be scoring 7 or 8 runs a game? Way to go. Now, Chicago is two games behind St. Louis and the REDS AND PIRATES HAVE JUMPED OVER THEM. Sad, really. Lowlights: 1. Fan favorite Hoffpauir's ugly side showed up (it really wasn't a matter of if, but when) with a costly error. Bricks-for-a-glove assisted in one of two Cubs errors today. 2. While he didn't give up seven runs again, Zambrano still wasn't on his game, or that of a No. 1 pitcher. 3. Oh, and this: STOP F*#^ING RUNNING! Seriously. Finally, after the jump, the lowest of lows. ARRIVEDERCI! I'm seriously OK with an all-righty bullpen. Screw the matchups. Also, wasn't too impressed with Samardzija. Gave up two runs, pretty fitting. Aside from Marmol, can the Cubs just have a do-over in the 'pen? Cubs next travel to Busch Stadium, then out to Arizona. Maybe this team needs a road trip. No clue. Ease your pain/let it out amongst your Web friends.
Paley Fest Recap: 5 Things You Should Know About CAPRICA
2009-04-22 15:35:00
The first thing you need to know about CAPRICA is that by design, it is absolutely nothing like BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. “Our challenge with CAPRICA is to try and break the mold of BATTLESTAR,” explained co-creator Ronald D. Moore at Monday’s Paley Festival event honoring both BSG and CAPRICA. “As much as we love BATTLESTAR, we now have to destroy it. The CAPRICA narrative will be nothing like BATTLESTAR’s narrative, the style is going to be different and the characters are going to be different. We’re taking a risk and saying to the audience, ‘We know you loved BATTLESTAR, we know you invested in it and we salute you for it. Okay now, here’s something literally, completely different.’….&rdqu-o; Seriously, really different Which means don’t hold your breath for the epic space-battles that became standard with some of the most memorable episodes of BSG. “There are no Cylons coming to destroy Galactica and the fate o...
Paley Festival Recap ‘09: THE MENTALIST
2009-04-19 06:07:00
Our Paley Festival adventure continues with a report from Friday night’s panel honoring THE MENTALIST featuring the cast (Simon Baker, Robin Tunney, Owain Yeoman, Amanda Righetti, missing in action Tim Kang) and creative team (Bruno Heller and Chris Demetral). On the show’s origins: Creator/executive producer Bruno Heller’s basic pitch for THE MENTALIST was Sherlock Homes, with a spin. “Essentially it was our attempt to get back to an old fashioned detective in which we tried to create a framework for a bravura performance by a great actor and this is the result.” Inspiration for Thomas Jane: “If you go to any city in America, any part of town, you’ll find a psychic on the block who is essentially applying the same trade as mentalists,” explains Heller. “They’re trying to create the illusion that they can read your mind, that they can see beyond the veil. And what they’re doing is essentially using genuine nature skil...
Saturday Game Recap: Cubs 7, Cards 5

Friday Game Recap: Cubs 8, Cards 7
2009-04-17 23:58:00
Wooooo! Something finally goes our way! The Good: Alfonso Soriano had struck out three times, but stepped up with a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth to lift the Cubs to a thrilling victory. Aramis Ramirez drove in three runs. Plus, Marmol got the save; Heilman got the win. The bad: Ryan Ludwick (where did he come from, anyway?) went 3-5, with FOUR RBIs today. Booooo Ryan Ludwick! The ugly: Zambrano lasted seven innings but gave up seven runs -- all earned -- on nine hits. Eeesh. That wasn't fun to watch. I'm so glad I jumped out and grabbed him early in my fantasy draft. The end result, however, is that we've tied up the series. Tomorrow Ryan Dempster takes on Kyle Lohse. Let's hope the pitching catches up with the hitting. Box
Paley Festival Recap ‘09: THE BIG BANG THEORY
2009-04-17 19:23:00
Direct from the Paley Fest ‘09 in Hollywood comes the TV Addict’s report from the hilarious and heartwarming panel featuring the cast (Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar) and creators (Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady) of hit CBS show THE BIG BANG THEORY. What’s in a name: Producer, co-creator Chuck Lorre revealed that the character names of Sheldon and Leonard were a “goofy homage… just a little fan thing of our own… a tip of the hat,” to pioneering film and television producer, actor and writer Sheldon Leonard. It all started with: Sheldon, Leonard and a very hard partying dangerous girl who moved next door. [The original [working] title for THE BIG BANG THEORY was “Lenny, Penny and Kenny”] “We learned very quickly that the audience hated this girl [who would eventually evolve into Penny] because they were protective of these two guys. They were innocent with big open hearts and you simpl...
Recap: Cubs drop Game 1
2009-04-16 23:24:00
First, here's Larry Vanover during the Milton Bradley at-bat. Second, I know it's early, but this bullpen isn't really making me positive about close games. Patton, while showing promise, is showing his youth. Guzman has apparently gone back to "tons of talent, can't produce" and Cotts is overall suck, maybe too worried about being a pretty boy. Call me crazy, but I'll take an ugly guy who gets it done over a guy who likes combing his hair and also giving up runs. And then there's Gregg, who is quickly becoming this year's version of Mitch Williams, giving Cubs fans a coronary by making easy games/saves hard. Third, and finally, the good news: It's Game 1 of 4. Big Z goes tomorrow. The offense is going to click (I hope), once it gets in a groove. Win tomorrow, and all this crap of today is forgotten. Anyway, air out grievances/boo/name-call in the comments. Oh, and P.S. Aaron Miles must go. I'm not kidding anymore.

FRINGE Recap: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
2009-04-08 19:55:00
The Good: With the mysterious serial killer known only as “the Artist” providing FRINGE fanatics with genuine Silence of the Lambs inspired fears, and Olivia Dunham’s emotional connection to a mysterious folic-ally challenged child delivering the tears, last night’s installment of FRINGE was far and away our favorite episode of the series thus far. The Bad: Josh Jackson’s Peter Bishop was relegated to mere comic relief, adding virtually nothing to the episode outside of the occasional eye-brow raise and off-the-cuff one liner in reaction to Walter’s antics. That, and the decision to cast Erik Palladino as the child welfare case worker/CIA operative took away from the suspense a bit — because let’s face it, there is no way the actor best known (at least to this TV Addict) as the smarmy Dr. Dave Malucci on ER was going to be playing a nice guy. The Ugly: The fact that many fans missed a killer of an ending as a result of AMERICAN IDOL runni...

Our BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Series Finale Recap
2009-03-21 19:34:00
Regardless of whether you thought last night’s BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series finale was “Frakkin’ Fantastic!” or the biggest letdown since THE SOPRANOS faded-to-black, I think there is one thing all fans (be them human or Cylon) can agree upon.
