Thursday 8/21 Game Recap; Cubs 3, Reds 2
2008-08-22 02:46:00 Sorry for you, Korey Today, your Chicago Cubs avoided looking like complete arses, defeating the Reds 3-2 and coming away with the 2-1 series win. I can only imagine the collective shudder after the first batter of the game, Chris Dickerson walked on 4 pitches. Chris Dickerson = Eric's son? You decide Apparently Big Z had a Big Z moment and got it together (from the AP, via Yahoo): Carlos Zambrano delivered a heated first-inning lecture to someone he knew would listen-himself. Upset after giving up a four-pitch walk to leadoff batter Chris Dickerson, Zambrano calmed down, regrouped and got out of the inning. The Cubs' ace also overcame a sore tooth, and homered on Thursday to finally get his 13th victory as Chicago beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2. "I was talking to myself. I told myself, 'Is it that hard to throw strikes? Come on, let's go,"' Zambrano said. "I would rather have people go out there and hit home runs than walk somebody. I hate walks." So do we, Carlos, so do we. A...

July 4th Holiday Weekend Bass Fishing Recap
2008-07-19 13:28:00 No better way to spend a long holiday weekend then doing a little bass fishing!!! Friday July 4th, I had a guide trip out on Lake Minnetonka. We launched out of Gray's Bay and kind of stuck to the east end of the lake. We started throwing some topwater and spinnerbaits over some weedlines that I had caught fish on in the past. I caught a pike and a nice little bass pretty quick on a Vixen. We then started working the deeper edge, quickly Daryl boated a bass on a black 10" Power Worm. I then caught several fish on soft plastics ranging from ring frys, robo worms and Big show paddle tails. Daryl caught his fair share on a wacky rigged Yamamoto Senko. We probably caught close to 10 bass on the first area. The next area we each caught one keeper on soft plastics. The 3rd area produced 3 small bass on spinnerbaits and another on a drop shot. We tried a couple more deep areas, but the boat traffic started to be too much to...

Odds And Ends: More Draft Recap
2008-06-06 19:12:00 A couple of more interesting links recapping the Rule 4 draft... Jim Callis of Baseball America conducted his draft day chat.[On picking Tim Beckham over Buster Posey] . . . That pick just came down to the Rays' personal preference. The easier choice would have been Posey, because he'll be ready quicker and fill a more obvious need, but Tampa Bay thought Beckham had more upside.Kevin Czerwinski has a cool list of over 30 players that were drafted, all of whom have a more famous relative, including Jeremy Beckham, a second baseman from Georgia Southern and older brother of top pick Tim Beckham, who was also selected by the Rays in the 17th round. Cork Gaines writes for Rays Index and can be reached here.

Odds And Ends: Draft Recap
2008-06-06 12:23:00 Let's take a look and see what is being said about the first round selections from day one of the Rule 4 Draft... Keith Law calls this year's first round "unusual in a number of ways," noting that more than half of the picks were college relief pitchers, corner infielders and catchers, three areas that usually get little attention in the first round. Law also gives us his choice for the team that made the best pick (Rockies), the worst picks (Seattle, Minnesota) and the teams that picked players that could reach the big leagues quickly (Seattle, Detroit, Arizona, Chicago, Baltimore). Baseball America has their first round recap with a look at each of the draftees. Minor League Ball gives us their thoughts on a few sleepers from the 4th and 5th round of the draft. The D-Backs top pick seems to be the most vocal draftee in terms of wanting to be in the big leagues this season. Buster Olney provides a complete collection of local media reactions to each of the first round draft picks...

2008-06-06 08:12:00 Watching Michael Young and Milton Bradley and Ramon Vazquez and, yes, even Kevin Millwood recover from a horrific four-run outburst levied against the Texas Rangers’ 33-year-old staff ace by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday evening to eventually claim a fantastic 9-4 victory, it struck me just how tremendously vital even a single win or a ...

State of the Bills Roster: The Recap
2008-06-05 01:25:00 Bills RB Fred Jackson (Photo Source) For nearly three weeks now, we have spent much of our time breaking down the Buffalo Bills' current personnel in our "State of the Roster" series. We, the Buffalo Rumblings community, have had some very intricate discussions about nearly every current Bill on the roster; I hope you've found the discussions as helpful in analyzing the roster changes post off-season as I have. Rest assured that we'll have content daily right up to training camp, but for now, here's a recap of each article involved in our State of the Roster II series: Quarterback: No more Edwards vs. Losman... right?Running Back: Written well before Lynch's run-in with the law.Tight End/Fullback: No more H-Back, but still not a well-defined split.Wide Receiver: Hardy must produce if aerial attack is to blossom.Offensive Tackle: Depth may be a concern, especially if Peters holds out.Offensive Guard/Center: Is Fowler the weak link of the starting O-Line? Defensive End: End...
Lehigh Valley "No Place For Hate" Event Recap
2008-06-04 18:04:00 I drove into a parking lot full of cars only to enter a building full of empty chairs. The chairs were very comfortable so I wasn't disappointed, and within minutes the people started showing up one at a time. Before I knew it, the place was packed! I was met by Nicholas Butterfield who later sat across from me and participated in the discussion.I was also greeted by Northampton Deputy Sheriff Walter Felton, whom I thought was there to whack me for writing this, but actually turned out to be one of the most polite officers I've ever met. Thankfully, he didn't whack me - just gave me a business card. Also sitting at the table with me was Lehigh Valley blogging bastard Bernie O'Hare and a couple members of the Children's Coalition of the Lehigh Valley, among a couple other well-spoken individuals. The table discussion was broken into three separate questions: 1) How have the recent events in the Lehigh Valley affected me? Give your personal opinion on your feelings when you heard w...

Game 5 Recap
2008-06-03 14:22:00 I?m awake...barely after staying up for game five of the Stanley Cup finals. Although I managed to fall asleep during part of the second overtime, I was wide awake for the third overtime and Petr Sykora?s winning goal. I was so excited by the goal that I had difficulty falling asleep. While I was lying in my bed, I couldn?t get the "California Soul" song from the Dockers commercial out of my head.Anyway, what an amazing win. When Detroit took a 3-2 lead in the third period, I though the series was over. However, Max Talbot?s goal with about 30 seconds remaining in regulation kept the Penguins alive. Despite Detroit dominating play in the overtimes, Marc-Andre Fleury made 55 saves leading the Penguins to victory. Here are all of the links you need for more about the Red Wings-Penguins game:- Coverage from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette- A special thanks to Seth Rorabaugh of the P-G?s Empty Netters for conducting a live-blog of game five. Money Making Weekend Recap
2008-06-02 19:00:00 This past weekend I was really busy and now I am tired. I actually just want to relax today but some work has to be done. Well this past weekend I have done a lot of things such as create a new sales page for a new digital product, bought a new affiliate system, graphic designers, logo contests, forum, and I think that is it. Below is just going to be a small recap of what I was doing this weekend. Also another great aspect was receiving an email from Market Leverage to sponsor a contest! So I will be hosting a contest soon sometime next week and Market Leverage is providing the great prizes, including an iPod! Okay so enough talk and let me break down my weekend: Digital Product Creation: BANS Premium Template Packages So after taking a survey and researching BANS forums, I decided to go ahead and make a new set of templates for the BANS community. A recap of my weekend
2008-06-01 18:49:00 What a weekend, and it's only Sunday morning!!!Saturday I crossed the border and went down to Seattle to do a little shopping. I wasn't sure if they'd let me into the USA, considering I was driving J's car, and before he left for Alaska, I forgot to ask him to write me a note for the border guard. Anyway, the guard was super nice and friendly and I got through without a problem.Confession: I spent a lot in Seattle. Well, a portion of it was a birthday present. Which basically cleans me out of my Gift Fund. I also spent $200 on myself at Express and Banana Republic. I'm still completely an emotional shopper (super stressed about J and my job) ... but also, I'm really glad I bought what I did. Ever since I made it a priority to update my work wardrobe (since last year), I've gotten beautiful sweaters and nice button-down shirts ... but nothing to wear during the summer. So I upped my summer wardrobe. Which is good, if by some chance I start to interview for other jobs. Not sayi...

Around the AFC East: Week Two Recap
2008-05-30 22:30:00 Week Two of our newest feature, "Around the AFC East", is in the books. I hope all of you are enjoying our weekly interviews with three outstanding "enemy" bloggers in Matty I (The Phinsider), MaPatsFan (Pats Pulpit) and Brian Bassett (The Jets Blog). The purpose of these interviews is not just to learn a bit more about the Buffalo Bills' biggest rivals; we're hoping to keep the chemicals of football pumping through your veins in these boring off-season days, as well. Today, we discussed quarterback controversies in New York and Miami and the Patriots' rushing attack - feel free to continue those discussions in their respective posts. Here's what went on at the rest of the excellent blogs involved: Over at The Phinsider: I discuss the most overrated and underrated Bills players, from a national media perspective. INTA Recap: Our Own United Nations
2008-05-29 03:42:00 Meet the Bloggers IV: Trademark law bloggers of the world unite! It’s hard to recap a four-day conference involving thousands of trademark lawyers from around the world. Despite my nagging jet lag, I’m still energized. For me, this year’s INTA transcended the usual meeting and greeting. Maybe it’s because I’ve gone to a few of these now and the folks I met for the first time three years ago in San Diego are now becoming good friends. But I started thinking that INTA’s annual meeting could be something of an agent of peace. Take the Meet the Bloggers event (photo above), for example. That night, I met folks kind of like me from England, Italy, Spain, South Africa, the United States, and many points in between. Our own United Nations. The night ended, quite late, over burgers and beer with old and new friends from the States, Holland, and Australia. I thought: this is what it’s all about. Sure, INTA is about m...

Monaco Recap
2008-05-26 12:23:00 Mixed weather conditions in Monaco. Just the thing to stir up the nattering, passless procession that inevitably occurs here each May. As the lights went out for the start, the rain fell in earnest. Polesitter Felipe Massa in the Ferrari got away quickly, but Lewis Hamilton in 3rd got the jump on the 2nd place position of Kimi Raikkonen. Robert Kubica in the the 5th place BMW-Sauber got away quickly as well. This marked the first rainy race in the post-traction control era, so it was great to see these multi-million-dollar machines gettin’ sideways just inches from disaster, the truest test of the F1 pilot’s skills. Despite qualifying poorly yesterday, Nick Heidfeld in the other BMW-Sauber gained an impressive five spots in the first five laps, jumping from 13th to 7th. It seemed the race never really settled into a rhythm, and as the rain continued to fall, the rooster tails grew. Who would crash first? While both Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in the Renault had mi...
