Monuments of Buenos Aires: Bartolome Mitre
2008-03-08 23:03:00 The equestrian monument of Bartolome Mitre, inaugurated in 1927, is the work of Italian sculptors Luis Calandra, David and Eduardo Rubino. It is located on a slope on Libertador Avenue and Aguero St, which makes it very imposing from below.Bartolome Mitre was an outstanding Argentine politician, elected President of the Nation between 1862 and 1868. He was also the founder of the Argentine newspaper "La Nación".The figure of the General is made in bronze, the basement in red granite, and it is surrounded by allegoric groups made of Carrara marble: in the front, the "Winged Victory", surrounded by: "The civil courage" (represented by and athlete wrestling a lion), "The family" (symbolized by a young mother with a sleeping child), and on the back "The victory", "The anguish", "The harmony", and "The study and thinking".
Wine Tour Urbano Recoleta
2008-03-06 19:03:00 Starting March 14th, 2008, and on the third Friday of April and May, from 7 to 10 pm, Wine Tour Urbano returns to Arenales Street, between Cerrito and Uruguay, with a new wine tasting concept. In every fashion and decoration store on Arenales St. strollers will have to opportunity of tasting a different Argentine winery, while doing some shopping at the same time.The first date will be dedicated to red wines, with the Malbecs and Merlots of every winery. On April 18th it will be the turn of Syrahs and Cabernets, and on May 16th, wineries will present their best labels.At the end of the tasting time there will be a special place, "After WTU", for guests to go on with the night.To participate, buy your Italian crystal glass at the stands on Arenales Street. Last edition of Gallery Nights Buenos Aires 2007 in Recoleta
2007-11-26 22:48:00 This Friday, November 30th, 2007, from 7 PM, will be the last edition of Gallery Nights 2007, organized by Arte al Día, through an original circuit along more than 60 art galleries, antique shops, museums and cultural centers around the neighborhoods of Retiro and Barrio Norte in Buenos Aires. There will be ?Visits with Audio Guide?, available in Spanish only. Those who wish to participate in this virtual experience can go to the LAN stand at the British Arts Centre (Suipacha 1333) from 7 PM to 10 PM, and, with an ID, can take an MP3 with the information about the galleries and exhibits chosen. As always, there will be music and free shows, and the guests will be welcomed with a complimentary glass of champagne.
