Familiarity Breeds Persuasion: Report Says Personal Recommendation Most Tru
2009-07-29 07:10:00
It is something we all intuitively knew, but now we have numbers as proof. What am I talking about? Let’s go a little tangential and talk about social media in general. There are folks who say that social media actually precedes the Internet. I am a member of the tribe that breeds such a thought. And I guess it is pretty evident why we think so, being social is in our nature, neo web tools just gave a platform to expound this further. So it is no surprise therefore that a Nielsen survey found personal recommendations by friends the best form of advertising online. The survey covered around 25,000 Internet users  from 50 countries including 500 respondents in India. And it found that 93% of the people from this bunch felt recommendations or advocacy by personal acquaintances as the most trusted advertising. (source) Surprisingly for me, editorial content like newspaper followed them immediately which is surprising because I thought most of them knew the blind eye that the four...

Hotel Recommendation: Amari Coral Beach Resort
2008-12-04 13:57:00
Amari Coral Beach Resort is rated as the Number 1 hotel in Patong Beach on TripAdvisor, which means it should be in my Top 10 Phuket Hotels list.. except I cut Patong from the list - sorry, Patong! Well, the thing is, and I keep trying to tell people this - Patong is not Phuket, or at least not typical of Phuket.• Amari Coral Beach Resort - TripAdvisor ReviewsPatong Beach does not feature a great deal on this blog. That's because on the whole I don't like Patong, and rarely go there. Sure, you can find some great restaurants, and there are some stand out hotels which are already listed in my Recommended Phuket Hotels. The Amari Coral Beach Resort certainly merits a recommendation, and I was reminded of it recently when an old friend came to Phuket and we went to meet her at her hotel - the Amari. As we wandered along the pathways looking for my friend's room, and headed past the seaview bar and a restaurant or two, down to the pool by the beach (a little bit of beach that nob...
Hotel Recommendation: Sawasdee Village (Kata Beach)
2008-10-28 14:23:00
Sawasdee Village is one of the hotels I have meant to add here for a long time, and today was reminded by some customers in our dive center who raved about how beautiful it is and how well looked after they felt there. It seems to me that Sawasdee Village is no ordinary hotel. It's not a big hotel really, only about 40 rooms, built in and around an oasis of tropical gardens, orchids and pools, with a 5 star spa thrown in for good measure. It seems to me that Sawasdee Village has been around for ever... I came to Phuket in 1999 and it was there.. from what I can gather by "web research" Sawasdee Village opened in 1991. There have been a lot of improvements and additions since and now it really does seem to be well worth recommending and it's a very reasonable price for such quality. The new Baray Villa rooms look amazing (more expensive too but looks like you get a lot of extras with these rooms). I like the sound of the 8 foot beds - truly King size!Sawasdee Village gets lots of ve...

Hotel Recommendation: Katathani (Kata Noi Beach)
2008-09-09 14:57:00
Well, I was just over at Kata Noi Beach a couple of weeks ago. Kata Noi always was quiet, and still is quiet because there is no through road, so somehow the beach seems like a sleepy backwater even though the rather large Katathani occupies most of the area! The resort has nearly 500 rooms and is divided into different wings spread along the beach and the very quiet road along the beachfront. The resort does not own the beach exactly, but I saw plenty of signs on the land fronting the beach saying "Katathani Hotel Guests Only". I guess the beach gets some day visitors, but if you are staying there it's almost a private beach. Kata Noi is pretty. You can see Koh Pu, the little island off Kata beach and you have rocky/jungly headlands at either end.Katathani gets lots of rave reviews on Tripadvisor, which is a good sign (that's reviews by people who have stayed there). Location is great, and you're not so isolated, even if you have that feeling of seclusion. Aside from the resort r...
Hotel Recommendation: Burasari (Patong Beach)
2008-09-04 16:03:00
Now I admit Patong Beach is not my favourite place in Phuket... I hardly ever go there unless I have to, BUT although this blog is called "Jamie's Phuket", one must concede that many people stay in Patong and many people like to stay in a "lively" location with plenty of bars, shopping, restaurants, Starbucks, banana boats and tailors. Not everyone likes the quiet places, so ... if you DO like Patong, there are some good hotels, indeed some excellent hotels. The Burasari is quite a fancy boutique resort with about 180 rooms of different styles and sizes. High season rates from 4,000 - 10,000 Baht/night. Low season you can stay for a little over 2,000 Baht! There are many different room types from Classic to Premier and Elite. Then you have the individually designed "Mood" rooms which are huge and have names such as Mocha Spice, Sweet Dream, Serene Sand and Blue Breeze. Patong is outside, but when you are in the resort with several pools, mini waterfalls and gardens, it's very peace...
Hotel Recommendation: Phuket Airport Hotel
2008-07-17 18:49:00
I seem to keep recommending people to book the Phuket Airport Hotel. I think the reason is because it offers something different, which is the kind of place I like! When you hear the words "Airport Hotel" it does conjour up images of a 500 room concrete block attached to the terminal.. but not this one.The small family-run hotel is just one minute drive from Phuket International Airport and Nai Yang beach. Even though it's so close to the airport, the hotel is peaceful and has a secluded feel - noise pollution is minimal, as it does not lie under the flight path. Simon and Wan and their staff work hard to make Phuket Airport Hotel something special. There are only ten beautifully decorated bungalows which all face the hotel?s small swimming pool. There is free wifi internet available too. Nai Yang beach is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, though if you ask nicely someone will give you a ride down to the water...The main reason most people stay here is the location. Got an ea...

Budget seatpost recommendation
2008-06-23 01:44:00
I’ve tried and tested many seatposts over the years in all price ranges. The only purpose of a seatpost is provide support for the saddle & to offer simple adjustments of the saddle (vertical & horizontal seat position plus saddle angle). Some seatposts costing hundreds of dollars do not even meet these simple requirements!
Hotel Recommendation: Karon Princess
2008-06-14 01:20:00
You can find a number of smaller mid price resorts along Karon Beach, as well as big resorts such as Hilton Arcadia. Karon even has backpackers rooms (which will be covered on this blog shortly). I'd say that the mid range hotels are all pretty decent, but the Karon Princess gets good reviews on TripAdvisor, and I just noticed that for the low season (May - October) you can stay for just 950 Baht per night! Check the late booking prices! High season rates are more like 4,000 Baht per night. This is not unusual - the low season is a great time to visit Phuket! But it rains all the time, I hear you cry... Not true. Weather is normally very nice - check these links:• Phuket Weather Blog• Wet Season Weather in PhuketKaron Princess is on the beach road, close to the area called "Karon Center" where you have a good selection of restaurants and bars - see location on Google Earth. Anti Aging Pills And Product Recommendation
2008-06-01 23:56:00
People often ask whether anti aging pills actually work and if so how do they work. There are a lot more options on the market these days simply because there is such a huge demand for any type of anti aging product and the research that has been done in recent years has helped to create many products that are able to actually make a difference to our appearance and our lifespan. Most of the anti aging pills work by helping to stimulate the body to produce more of it's own anti aging properties.Supplements that contain antioxidants and omega 3 oils will provide the body with additional protection against free radicals that cause aging but many other supplements such as those that are associated with human growth hormone actually stimulate the body to produce more of its own human growth hormone rather than supplying it with additional human growth hormone.Other anti aging products will help to boost collagen production which will help to ward off the aging affect that a lack of colla...

In reviewing my recommended sites page I found that the My Cash Safari site has been suspended and since I never received payment and I was planning on cashing out this month I'm no longer recommending it. I've come across several other sites that do mention they have been waiting since January for payment so that one is no longer considered a recommendation on this site.Over the last couple of days I've posted a few additional ways to earn free cash. Revolution Money Exchange is a new payment distributer similar to paypal without the fees. I am going to start working on paying off my husbands car by the end of the summer so I decided to set up an account at ING and if you'd like to earn an additional $25 for signing up with an initial deposit of $250 please feel free to visit my ING Bonus Money page. Otherwise feel free to visit ING Direct and check out their accounts and start earning interest on your checking and savings accounts again.

Hotel Recommendation: The Chedi
2008-03-30 11:12:00
The Chedi Hotel is just the right place for a bit of quiet seclusion. Not a cheap hotel, but the last minute prices can be much better. But, it has to be said, you get your money's worth. The Chedi has it's own private beach in between Surin and Bang Tao beaches. The scenery is beautiful along the coast here and you're off the main tourist beaches. Having said that, The Chedi is not too far from anywhere. About 20 minutes to the airport, about 25 to Patong if you want a bit of nightlife. The Chedi provides one-bedroom and two-bedroom thatched cottages with private verandahs and sun decks. It's a very nice looking place. The New York Times review says "From the exotic lobby (with columns and lily pond) to sleek and handsome private bungalows, it is one of the most handsome properties on the island. It's quality with a big price tag, but this romantic getaway has it down to the details."Actually, compared to it's nearest neighbour (Amanpuri Resort) The Chedi is quite reasonably p...

Book Recommendation
2008-03-11 23:51:00
I just finished reading 'Why We Want You To Be Rich', and I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it! It had been recommended by a colleague of mine. My initial reaction was "Donald Trump?". Second reaction was, "Robert Kiyosaki!". I have been a follower of his since I first read 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' many years ago. Additionally, my partner (in the investment leg of my business), Suzanne Koller, and I refer to Robert Kiyosaki and his works in the investment workshops we conduct. So, I was compelled to make the purchase and begin reading. One of the things I like about Kiyosaki, (and that has brought criticism to him), is that he doesn't tell you what to do, where to put your money or advise you on what's best for you. He gives you principles, and ideas of where to begin your education if you want to head down the path of creating wealth. Ultimately, he confirms that you are responsible for your own finan...
Fellow Beauty Whore Recommendation...

I LOVE when fellow beauty whores send me their favorite products! That's a big reason for having this beauty blog... sharing!!!Annah Cuthbert of the U.K. wrote in gushing over the skin and body line LUSH (and a fave conditioner from the local drugstore) and now I share it with you...Here's what she had to say:"It is such a fab line, the face packs are just amazing. At first i thought the whole organic, homemade tagline (which at the time was rather original) was just another gimmick but now I'm complete Lush addict. The brazened honey face pack is a powerhouse of effective ingredients for all tired skins, it apparently exfoliates and detoxifies as well as stimulates and nourishes the skin.Refreshing herbs and fruit juice are blended with warming Ayurvedic herbs and spices. With almonds to polish and moisturising honey, this blend leaves the skin vibrant and re-visited. You apply to clean skin, leave on for 20 minutes until dry, rinse and voila, glowing goddess. Recommendation
2008-03-08 16:31:00
When I was in grad school and college, I did a fair amount of IT work to help pay the bills. In fact, I have done some sort of IT work or another ever since high school. That has meant that I have always ahd access to the latest software, and I sort of got spoiled by that. In particular, I always loved photoshop and prefered to use it to work with graphics on my computer. However, once I was out of the IT world, I was not about to shell out $650 dollars to put photoshop onto my personal computer. What I have found, however, is a wonderful solution. GIMPshop is a free, open source photo editing software, developed to mimic photoshop. If you do a fair amount of photo or graphic manipulation, GIMPshop (or its predecessor, GIMP) are worth looking into. They are certainly more affordable.

Short-Sale and Foreclosure Expert on Activerain, I need your Recommendation
2008-03-05 18:26:00
I have a question, directed to all the short sale and foreclosure experts here on Activerain. We had this discussion this morning at our board meeting of the Ann Arbor Board of Realtors. When you list a short-sale or a foreclosure in the MLS, you offer a co-broke commission to the Realtors as an offer of compensation if they bring a ready and willing buyer. Then the bank comes along and says, “No, we will only pay XXX”, that is much lower than what you offered in the MLS. The Buyer Agents have been saying, too bad, you offered this in the MLS and that is what we expect. So the listing brokerage is forced to pay what was in the MLS.   This leaves the listing brokerage, a small amount of compensation after all the marketing expenses, and extra time spent on doing a short-sale. My question is directed NOT at the banks, but at Realtors.  1)    -; How are you responding in these situations? 2)    Are you sending a ...
