Weezer, Lyrics, Record Labels and Why the Industry Needs to Change: A Rant
2008-05-12 07:01:00 It seems the number of bands who are upset with their record labels, is sort of skyrocketing. Record labels, who needs em? Jill Sobule has her fans for ...
2008-03-04 02:46:00 NEW YORK — In making six CDs, singer Jill Sobule has worked for two major record companies that dumped her and two indie labels that went bankrupt beneath her. Now she’s turning to people she can really trust — her fans. Sobule, whose witty and poignant writing first attracted attention with the song ‘‘I Kissed a Girl,’’ has set up a website asking fans to donate money so she can make a new CD. She set a goal of $75,000 and, in a month, she’s made about $54,000. She’s another example of a musician taking control of her career as the business crumbles around her, and doing it with a unique sense of humour. Contributors can choose a level of pledges ranging from the $10 ‘‘unpolished rock,’’ which earns them a free digital download of her disc when it’s made, to the $10,000 ‘‘weapons-grade plutonium level,’’ where she promises ‘‘you get to come and sing on my CD. Advice To Record Labels: Open Up The Conversation
2007-01-24 04:48:04 I’ve been visiting a lot of record label websites lately and it’s becoming apparent that the majority (I’m sure there are some exceptions) of record labels aren’t leveraging the internet to its fullest potential to promote their artists and their label in general. In the past, simply having a web presence was enough. But times are changing and having just a brochure type website is settling for mediocrity. Music & Entertainment :: Christ-Based Record Labels
2006-12-06 13:57:04 Author: Eric Subject: Christ-Based Record Labels Posted: Wed Dec 06, 2006 2:16 am (GMT -5) These are just a few Christian record labels that feature some of the heavier Christ-inspired music. I've gotten into some of the bands on the labels and if you're into a heavy rock/metal sound then check them out. There is a variety of sounds within each label so you'll probably find something you enjoy. Tooth & Nail Records: http://www.toothandnail.com/ Solid State Records: http://www.solidstaterecords.co-m/ Flicker Records: http://www.flickerrecords.com/- Harvest Earth Records: http://www.harvestearth.com/ Rivel Records: http://rivelrecords.com/ I just want to say that God can work through all genres of music. I don't believe that any music is "Christian music," there's just Christ-inspired lyrical content. I also don't have anything against secular bands. God has gifted them with their talents and, whether they know it or not, their music can help us appre...
