Reduce, reuse, and recycle your holiday ornaments
2011-12-15 16:27:00 Holiday tree decorating is often about buying more and more new ornaments. LOVIN? IT: Reduce Reuse RePurpose Recycle Sign
2011-10-26 20:45:00 I’m lovin’ this fab little handmade sign of recycled and reclaimed materials proclaiming a rallying cry for the world: REDUCE, RE-USE, RE-PURPOSE, RECYCLE And who doesn’t need to be reminded sometimes that less can be more, that quality beats quantity, and that new doesn’t necessarily trump old. It’s a fine mantra for a Vintage Crusader! Available at Sundance.
Recycle No More
2011-07-20 07:01:00 At work, I try to exercise during lunchtime, either by going to the gym, biking, or walking. When the weather is cool in the spring and fall, walking is the exercise of choice. For years I walked in my iPod oblivion, but I would always notice beverage cans tossed by the side of the road. I always thought that one of these days, I ought to bring a bag with me and pick up the cans to recycle. Last fall, I finally got it together and brought bags to pick up cans during my walks. The bags would fill up much quicker than I imagined, usually within the first mile of the walk. No matter how often I walked, there were always plenty of cans to pick up. A lot of the cans were half full, so I would empty them out before placing them in the bag. Sometimes, this was a pretty gross proposition, so I ended up wearing blue nitrile gloves for my walks. Ninety percent of the cans were beer cans, with an occasional soda or energy drink. I began to wonder ...

2011-05-31 03:42:00 Did you know I was an equestrienne? For reals. I've never actually been on a horse, but indeed, am an equestrienne. I own a high horse. It's very high. I like to get on it. And when I'm on that high horse I pontificate. Mary Tyler Mom has provided a whole new venue - - my high horse has a new stable, if you will. Today, high on my high horse, Imma talk about recycling in Chicago. It is a sorry state of affairs, folks, recycling in Chicago. There is much to pontificate about. I could kvetch about living in the "greenest city in America" and still needing to deposit my recyclables at a local blue bin drop center. I can...
Peak Oil: When Reduce, Reuse Recycle Isn't Enough
2011-03-02 12:21:00 Good thing I'm kind of a hippy. I relish in enjoying the most basic in life, nature, cooking, doing-it-myself, living with less and soon, growing my own food. I dig holistic health, natural healing, spirituality and building communities. All of these things which are becoming more and more mainstream-this is a very good thing. Have you ever thought about why these things are growing in popularity? How the New Age is transforming into the Now Age? I think a lot of people are slowing down and starting to notice the way we've been living, increasingly over the past 30 years, is just not sustainable. The not-so-funny thing about it all is we aren't going to have much choice in how...

How to Recycle a Live Christmas Tree in Chicago
2011-01-10 16:20:00 Even though Chicago offers a Christmas tree recycling program where live Christmas trees can be dropped off at 23 locations, I noticed this weekend that some in my neighborhood aren't taking advantage of the drop-off service. Trees are appearing in empty lots and alleys where they're leaned up against trashcans, providing easy access to food to the city's rats and squirrels. Perhaps residents don't know how to recycle a live Christmas tree in Chicago, or they aren't aware of the program. According to the city of Chicago website, 128,778 trees were mulched and kept out of waste stream since 1990. The mulch produced by these trees goes to beautification projects and is given out for free to gardeners. Below three...

If you're using windows operating system, you definitely know what a recycle bin is.It stores all files and folders you delete from the hard disk and helps you undelete if necessary.By default it covers hard disk only.It means items deleted from any other media such as usb stick are permanently deleted as they are not sent to the recycle bin. Here comes ibin handy..If you use usb drive often to store data, you can try this small portable application .It creates a recycle bin on the flash drive and works just like windows recycle bin.Whenever you delete an item ,a window will pop up asking if you want to dump it to ibin or erase it permanently. All or selected dumped files can be restored back using dumping management feature. You can customize it,undo last dumping ,clean ibin container, use hot key to manage ibin actions and many more.Download : IBIN
How far will YOU go to recycle?
2010-06-07 15:00:00 For some Chicago residents, disposing of recyclables means packing up the car and driving to another part of the city. Recycle those worn out athletic shoes
2009-10-09 23:01:00 It's hard to get rid of perfectly good shoes ... even if they're not perfectly good anymore. I know--I currently have about 4 pairs of old running shoes sitting at home that I never wear. That's not including the ones I keep around for camping or messy occasions. Normally, I'd take them over to Goodwill or donate them elsewhere. The problem with these particular pieces of footwear is that the padding is worn through from running in 'em or they're pretty worn out in general....

This results in a wonderful sounds, especially horns sound amazing. Vince Vijsma, Amsterdam, the Netherlands I remember when I was much younger, I would love to take stuff apart, modify it and put them back together. I actually learnt how to solder wires at 10 or 11 and that help me repair my damaged Radio Control Cars. Luckily I'm a better electrician than a driver! So I was quite tickled when I read about Platform 21's Most Remarkable Repair Contest. The work submitted really resonated with me!

At three times the height of the average man in Britain and about the size of the average two-storey house the giant will now tour the streets as the council's ambassador for recycling as well as visiting community days, in residential areas and estates. Alongside the towering robot, the council's campaign to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and how to use the borough's recycling service will see hundreds of posters on bill boards and buses starring local people who recycle. This follows the introduction of new services in the borough &nb...

How Can I Recycle This?
2008-10-04 01:20:00 How can I reuse or recycle a children's paddling pool? How can I reuse or recycle old watches? How can I reuse or recycle After Eight mints boxes and wrappers? How can I reuse or recycle old golf balls? How can I reuse or recycle cardboard-backed waffle foam? How Can I Recycle This? Is a Q&A website, where people can answer questions posted by the founders, the couple Louisa Parry and John Leach. 'This site started from a bowl of pistachio nut shells. After we gorged ourselves on their lovely innards, they, the shells, just sat there, looking useful and versatile - but we no idea what we could possibly do with them. Just throwing them on the compost heap seemed a waste - all the effort to make them tough and solid, and here we were just hoping they'd rot back down to mulch before the potatoes needed earthing up.' The site is a free inspiring brainstorming to generate possibilities of reusing everyday items. Minor is that its not made visible how the stuff that surroun...
