Recycle Your Gold for a Profit
2008-05-22 00:00:00
Humans pollute the air in many ways, but the single most contaminating activity is mining for gold. According to the EPA, mercury pollution from trash incineration, hazardous waste collection, and mercury mining combined still does not add up to half the total amount of mercury pollution made by gold mining. After the metal has been mined, approximately 63 percent is used in jewelry, 21 percent as coins, 15 percent in industrial use, and the other 1 percent in dental. So anything we can do to reduce this pollution is a welcomed activity.

A Guide On The Compost Bins Types To Recycle
2008-05-16 04:48:00
Composting has become a popular means of recycling organic materials so that they can be used in beneficial ways instead of adding them to a landfill. In addition to being a great way to participate in recycling efforts, composting is also a great way to generate rich organic materials that can be added to soil for organic garden projects. Compost bins provide a simple and easy way to help people get started composting and are particularly good solutions for people who have limited living space. There are a number of different types of composters on the market to meet a variety of needs and situations. Bins for composting can be built from materials that you already have around the backyard, or they can be purchased from garden supply stores, especially those that specialize in organic gardening. In some municipalities, the recycling centers provide bins free or at a reduced cost to encourage people to recycle their organic materials themselves. One variety of compost bins are cal...

Computers, cell phones and other electronics are recyclable too, which is good, because we know how fast you nerds go through gadgets and rigs. The next time one of your computers crunches its last equation or serves up its last blue screen, drop it off at an e-waste recycling center. US and Canada residents, check Earth911's list for electronics recycling programs near you. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

Recycle CO2 into DVDs and Get Rich
2008-04-24 00:00:00
Many of the things that we do increase the emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Whenever we burn a fossil fuel to drive our car, heat our homes, make hot water, or provide the electricity, we inject it into the atmosphere. Other industrial activities, such as manufacturing cement, emit significant amounts as well. What if we could take the CO2 from a power plant, and sequester it into commonly used, and quite resilient, products? Carbon based plastics are already sold each year, so they are not a new product. However, using emissions to create those plastics is a new and exciting idea.

Don?t forget to recycle your used motor oil
2008-04-17 04:15:00
Oftentimes, when the subject of oil appears on the internet, a raging debate ensues regarding which brand offers the highest quality or whether or not synthetic is superior to straight dino-oil. We're not touching that one today, but we would like to remind our readers of the importance of recycling your used motor oil. Matt Hale, Director of EPA's Office of Solid Waste, says, "Recycling used motor oil conserves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and prevents the possible contamination of our nation's drinking water supplies." How bad could a little used motor oil be on our water supplies? We'll let Castrol explain: 'one oil change -- improperly disposed and not recycled -- can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water, which is a year's supply for 50 people.' With that information firmly in mind, Castrol has teamed up with Earth911.com to educate people on oil recycling. We've pasted a press release regarding the subject after the break. For tips on oil recyclin...
