Esto le debe haber pasado a varios: tienen múltiples pestañas abiertas y notan que Firefox empieza a ponerse lento, lo cual es notorio al momento de reproducir videos o mientras juegan con aplicaciones en flash. Reddit Gimp Promotion Fail
2009-06-20 17:20:00
Reddit had a little poll lately to ask which open source programs the community would like to see promoted. Gimp won third place. But, as seen here, Gimp just can't get a break even when it wins... Yeah, sure, Gimp, the open-source Photoslop. And I suppose Linux is the open-source Windows, and ABIWord is the open-source MS-Word, and Firefox is the open-source Internet Explorer, and PHP is the open-source ASP... Never mind that the Gimp team states quite clearly that it's not intended to resemble Photoslop in any way, shape, or form, and never will be. I've heard of feeding trolls before. This goes beyond feeding trolls. This is giving the trolls sugar diabetes!
Twitter Friday: Digg, Reddit or Mixx? Twitter!
2009-05-22 16:54:00
In recent days and weeks a few search and social media marketers complained about Digg and Reddit again. I myself did the same in regard to Mixx. Do you ask yourself which social news site you should join? Digg, Reddit or maybe even Mixx? The only correct answer is none of them. Join Twitter instead. In fact ... REDDIT PLANS WEEKLY NEWS SHOW WITH PBS
2008-05-21 23:11:00
Social news site Digg has the beer-fueled Diggnation podcast, but its Conde Nast-owned rival Reddit is working on something more highbrow: a TV show on PBS. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian announced Wednesday on the company blog that the site will be powering the news behind YourWeek, a new show on affiliates of the public broadcasting network. In a more youth-focused spin than PBS' news is known for, the new show details the week's headlines as chosen by Reddit users. Reddit has set up a new section of the site for discussion. "We're finishing taping on the pilot this weekend and I can confirm that the Reddit alien (the site's mascot) will be getting on-camera time," Ohanian said to readers. The site is celebrating its new show's user-generated spirit by throwing a contest for users to remix its theme song--"I suspect it won't be long before we get a Rickroll remix," he added. Right now, there's no formal debut date as the show is not completely greenlit. The show's p...
Wow - There Are STILL Ron Paul People Out There

OK, first, I just want to start off by saying that I love Ron Paul - he’s a great Congressman, but he’s not going to be the nominee for the Republican Party.  He’s still got a functional website and he’s still in the race (he’s even got a section about “Now There Are Two,” but ...
NAUBO MIXES UP GOOGLE NEWS, REDDIT AND TECHMEME
2008-04-03 23:47:00
Web news aggregator Naubo might be one of the unholiest unions I've ever seen. It could also be one of the best places for news junkies to get their fix. The service is an unabashed visual copycat of Google News, serving up the latest stories from around the Web. The difference is that it has a technology slant, covering news on big companies like Apple and Microsoft, along with gadgets, Linux, and hardware. What makes Naubo interesting is that it uses this same spidering technology for blog chatter as it does for regular news, so like Techmeme you get big stories coupled together with other blogs that have chimed in. The listing of blogs is put together by humans, who maintain the collective. However that doesn't mean they're the ones to pick out the stories--that's done entirely through an automated system. To go along with these two news trackers is a user-maintained news service called Buzz (not to be confused with Yahoo's Buzz), that lets users submit and vote stories up...

Everything in the Digg, Reddit & Netscape Algorithms
2008-03-02 20:04:00
At work today, Matt noted that he found Digg's algorithm far more interesting than Google's. I was shocked - after all, Digg isn't nearly as complex or widely used as Google, but with its rising popularity in the tech space, I could, at least, empathize with why he might feel that way. I also took it as a challenge to expose all the possible elements that might be in an algorithm at Digg, Reddit, Netscape, Shoutwire or other social-news-voting sites. Let's see how I do:BTW - I'm going to use a lot of Digg-specific terminology, despite the fact that I'm referring to all of the sites above.1. Number of votes over timeUses a floating target based on relative levels of popularity (as mentioned in timing below)Any number of votes in a very short period (if not manipulative) is stronger than the same number of votes over a longer period.2. Domain of linkHas it previously had content submitted? If so, did that content receive votes, get marked as spam/lame, make the front page, etc?H...

Reddit Web 2.0 Party Gallery Lounge San Francisco

This is a "slice of life" video that gives you an idea of what people actually do at these "Web 2.0" parties. It features a brief talk with Reddit founder Steve Huffman, and a look around an all too crowded Gallery Lounge in San Francisco. We meet programmers arguing and someone who shows us how to make an impromptu NDA in a crowded place. Finally, San Franciscans who get around may recognize a certain person.

Google playing with a Reddit-Like system for SERPs
2007-11-30 14:00:00
It looks like Google is playing with an experimental new search system that works a lot like Reddit (or Digg) in that you can vote up or down various search results depending on their relevance to you. It seems like this idea is only going to happen per a user so it isn't going to be something that can be manipulated as much as it sounds that it could. Although if they do eventually implement something like this I could see part of their algorithm pulling rankings from a system like this to decide on what is worth reading and what is not.

Digg and Reddit users have higher moral and ethics than Shoutwire?
2007-09-03 18:04:00
After I have found out about Google Flight simulator, I have noticed that Marco submitted his story to four community based sites : Digg, Reddit, Shoutwire and Slashdot, at the same time. As Slashdot is editorial based, I won?t discuss about that here. Here are the screenshots for the other three.Oh My GOD! 352 views and only 2 shouts? Come on, this article definitely deserve to be shouted. It is impossible that all those 352 people have already known about this easter egg before Marco. When you compared with Digg and reddit, all the community users gave Marco the diggs and points he deserved. Why all these Shoutwire users are so mean? Maybe they can't shout anymore as their voice are running out? Come on shoutwire, you can be a lot better than this. I don't mean to offend anyone, just sharing my thought.
