Martin Amis:" fiction is the only way to redeem the formlessness of life"
2008-04-23 17:47:00 Isabel Fonseca on an interview,?Well it is fiction,? she said last month over lunch at the River Café in Brooklyn, where one of the book?s scenes takes place. ?The character is really not me at all. I didn?t consciously avoid any of the parallels, but I didn?t seek them either. It wasn?t a special area of play. I just didn?t worry about it.??Attachment? came about largely by accident, Mr. Fonseca explained. When she began it, she and Mr. Amis were living in Uruguay, where they had moved partly just to get away from London and partly because she hoped to work on a book about that country and her family?s history there. ?Uruguay is a fascinating little country that?s very dear to me in some unearned way,? she said. Her older sister, Quina, has lived thereon and off for years, an aunt has a daily radio show in the capital, Montevideo, and one of her cousins was imprisoned for two years during the military dictatorship o the 70s.?I never imagined that I?d spend half my life in England,...

Redeemed
2007-12-21 11:28:00 I've been thinking:I have been a child,a teen, a criminal, and pacifist, a hippie, a biker,a model,a dope addict, and a drunk.I've been healthy and I've been sick. But, now I am:A lover of all, Walking in purpose, redeemed by His love. Forgiven, lead, strong, true and who I am suppose to finally be. Set free of the me that was confused, lost and on shaky ground. Redeemed, that is who I am today.

Buying a used car (part 2): Ebay redeemed
2007-12-18 04:21:00 Hooray for ebay! I've been tootling around in my new car now for a few days. And so far, so good. Courtesy of Joel of auto_traders2006, I received it a week after I paid for it. I paid on the Thursday, it was sent to the Sydney depot on Monday and arrived in Brisbane the following Thursday. The service was second to none and Joel kept me informed all the way. The car is all good, looks nice, drives well and with only a couple of little quirks in keeping with a ten year old car. All the bits are in the right places and, although it lacks a few horses going up hills, it's fine for pottering about. Trying very hard not to compare it to my Lupo Gti which often makes a surprising 'grrrr' noise for such a small car and gets me to my destination yesterday. While I hesitate to recommend that people buy a car on ebay without having looked at it, here's a checklist to ease those worries:a) Do your research. Spend time looking at how much similar models are selling for and in which state. ...

2007-12-16 14:48:00 Redeemed By Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915 Man has been separated from God by sin and has become a slave of Satan. But man has been redeemed. The Redeemer's heavy task !
2007-12-11 16:41:00 Yet till evil is slain in its own homeAnd Light invades the world's inconscient baseAnd perished is the Adversary ForceHe must still labor on, his work half donewrote the Master. The inner war within the human bosom was known to the Seers and they depicted in such epics like Iliad and the Odyssey, Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The Lust within man is the DuryodhanaThe Anger within man is the DussasanaThe Five Positive Elements represent the Pancha Pandavas. Truth, Dharma, Peace, Love and the Discriminative Intellect are the Five Positive Elements. The Discriminative Intellect is that which distinguishes the Real from the Non-Real, Being from Non_Being and is the Arjuna fighting with the background of Eternity, with the Self as the metaphysical ground. In Man, the negative and positive elements are in conflict and the Seer-Poets wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, just to depict this great battle within the human bosom.Unless the aspirant removes the mortal...
Misbah and Younis redeem Pak
2007-12-10 13:59:00 Pakistan saved the day with 369/5. Younis Khan played well for his 80 and Misbah for his 54 not out.Ishant Sharma impressed in his spell in which he took the wicket of Faisal Iqbal. All five Indian bowlers took a wicket each. Now the match seems to be heading for a draw. There is no glory for Pak, as India leads 1-0 in the series. In the other match in SL, Sangakara, who is ranked No 1 in ICC rankings, got out cheaply. A huge wicket for England ! But Vandort scored his half century to redeem SL. SL at stumps are 105/2.England had earlier cruised to 351, thanks to Cook scoring 81 along witn Vaughan's brilliant & stylish 87. Prior excelled with the bat scoring 79. Paul Collingwood scored 52 and England reached a respectable 351. Still I feel England has the edge, as they had taken Sangakara !
Younis Khan redeems Pak & Sangakara SL
2007-12-05 01:57:00 Centuries by Sangakara and Younis Khan redeemed their countries. England now needs 341 to win. Pak drew the Calcutta Test, mainly due to the heroics of Khan. Sangakara is in tremendous form and ranks now as No 3. His form with the bat is amazing. No doubt, along with Gilchrist and Dhoni, he is one of the best wicket keeeper batsmen in the world. Following his 92, his 152 is simply breathtaking. If he continues in this fashion, more records will tumble.Pak batting asserted itself and they scored 214/4. Younis Khan continues in good form. No all eyes are on the final Test. Pressure still on Pak, as India leads 1-0
Misbah redeems Pak
2007-12-04 01:56:00 With his 161 not out, Misbah played a stellar innings to rescue Pak. Harbhajan took 5 wickets and the match looks like heading for a draw, unless the Indian spinners devastate.Time is not enough for that, one feels. India is ahead with 301 runs and will declare today, but one feels that time is not enough to get 10 Pak wickets. Anyway one cannot tell about this game of glorious uncertainties. In SL, Vandort and Jayasuria pulled SL from ignominy. Jayasuria, after a grand knock, announced his retirement from Test cricket. Jaffer impressed again. D Karthik couldnt build an innings. We expect Yuvraj to come in for next Test. Why cant Dravid open ?

Robert Green Proves There Is Enough Time To Redeem Yourself.
2007-11-26 12:18:00 Much has been said about the state of English goalkeeping over the past few days, so I won't be going into any long winded diatribe, suffice to say that sometimes when you think that the Gods are playing a cosmic joke on you, you have more time than you think on your hands to redeem yourself. West Ham's Robert Green showed that a goalkeeper can push themselves out of a bad decision and redeem themselves with a brilliant goalkeeping display. Following is a video highlight of the game between West Ham and Tottenham (1-1). Now I lost $20 because of that save by Green...but I'm fine, really! But, this is a great display of just how important it is to stay focused as a goalkeeper and brush off mistakes during the course of 90 minutes. Staying alert in high pressure situations entails that you remain calm, do not lose your lines of communication with your team mates, and always stay focused on the end result. Although Green's first attempt to attack the ball was misjudged pretty badly...

Tehelka, Journalists Lead Indians to Redeem Their values
2007-11-03 23:10:00 Tehelka, the intrepid news magazine did what the Indian government should have done in the past five years. The nation owes a debt of gratitude to the editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal and reporter Ashish Khetan who took enormous risk to procure evidence on video tapes about the planning of the genocide perpetrated by the Gujarat state government in February – March 2002. The tapes also record admissions of suppression of evidence and bribery by the public prosecutors to protect the guilty. The culpable Gujarat state government (still in power), got away with it, because at the time their party (BJP) was also in power at the center in Delhi. In 2004 elections for the central Parliament, the Indian electorate exhibited maturity by defeating the repressive sectarian coalition in favor of a secular coalition dominated by the Congress party. However the Congress has been reticent to bring the Gujarat government to the bar of justice. It is afraid of being falsely tarred by the fascists,...

The Unredeemable Sin?
2007-09-24 11:42:00 When I did my post about heroes hitting women, Milady Insanity commented on livejournal that there is in fact a worse crime for a hero to commit than hitting a woman. Rape. Rape is the unredeemable sin.Or not.Because as we all know, men have been redeemed from it countless times. The most famous case is of course Luke and Laura from General Hospital back in 1981. I've spent some time hunting but can't find any other examples online, although I know there are, because I remember reading an article about it a few years back that cited more recent cases. So why is that? Is it because we can believe a man might only rape a woman once, but once he starts hitting, he'll never stop? If the hero hit the heroine because he loved her so much he couldn't help himself, would that be any different?"Forced seduction" is fairly popular still, as far as I know. Yes, the difference there is that the heroine always consents, even if it's at the last second. And I'll be honest. I don't see anyth...
Wrestling, Redeeming & Sanctifying Truth
2007-09-15 01:40:00 ?' ????? ???"?The afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah, I performed a Jewitch tashlich. At that time I cast the ashes of rituals from the past year into a swampy green cauldron pond in the woods. As I was waking this morning, I had a powerful mind-vision of two primal goddesses arising from the swampy pond waters (which were waist high on them) where I had performed my Jewitch tashlich. They were wrestling and they arose wrestling, as if the act of wrestling caused the "arising revelation".Simultaneous with the arising of the wrestling primal goddesses, I saw that the entire atmosphere became chock (???) full of dandelions releasing their seeds - so many that they looked like a whitish mist made of dandelion seeds being cast out from the place into the universe at large.Magickally, dandelions correspond to the Hecate and David archetypes, the planets Jupiter and Saturn, the Hebrew letter tav (through Jupiter), the Ogham letter ruis (through Saturn), the element of air, the ch...

National Review, Redeemed
2007-08-01 15:11:00 After The Derb's pessimistic 'if-only-it-weren't-impossible'- column on Ron Paul the other day, National Review Online columnist Todd Seavey counters with a piece that is courageous, eloquent and penetrating. His sentiments are right in line with my own. I promise not to employ any silly phrases like "audacity of hope", but his column is exactly what conservatives need to hear. I think the next six months are going to prove Mr. Sealy's prescience on this subject. From his "Fusion Candidate":Paul?s greatest obstacle is the Republican primary process. Since he wants to do virtually everything conservatives have long dreamed of with the office of the presidency, what?s stalling his chances is a herd-like desire to vote for the candidate who already seems likely to win the primaries. Democrats won?t keep him from the White House; it would be tragic, then, if Republicans stopped him themselves.Recall, first, the big issue that likely cost the Republicans control of Congress in 2006 a...

Statue of Christ the Redeemer history & pictures
2007-07-12 16:29:00 *History* *The Statue of Christ the Redeemer history starts in the XVIth Century when the Portuguese named the mountain Pináculo da Tentação (The Pinnacle [peak] of Temptation), alluding to the Biblical Mountain. * Image: http://i178.photobucket.com/alb-ums/w254/dark__saint/christ-his-t-1.jpg *A century passes and the mountain is re-baptized to Corcovado, a name derived from its form, which resembles a hump or hunchback. The next recordings of christ the redeemer history is in 1924 when Dom Pedro personally led the first official expedition to Corcovado Mountain, resulting in the opening of an accessable way up. Then in 1859 the Vincentian father Pedro Maria Boss arrived Rio de Janeiro and was struck by the mystorious beauty of the corcovado mountain and suggested the the construction of a religous monument in honour of Princess Isabel, which in 1921 gave way for the idea of a great statue of christ viewable by all in the marvelous city of Rio. From 1859 to 1921, Dom Pedro ...

Paris calls Ryan Seacrest! She is trying to redeem herself! Will it last m
2007-06-23 01:03:00 Details from Paris Hilton's phone call with Ryan Seacrest let out. Paris has decided to become Saint Paris and believe it or not she is reformed and she hopes to build a "transitional home" to help women when they are released from jail. "These women just keep coming back because they have no place to go," she explains. Paris says the home can be "a place to get food and clothes on their backs," continuing that the recidivism rate is "a really bad cycle and if we stop it now, we can make our community a better place.Paris apparently, is ready for a start fresh. "I appreciate everything now and I think there was a lot of bad people that I was around and I don't want to surround myself with those types of people anymore. Hmmm, I wonder who she means??? How long will the humble Paris last ..... a New York minute, maybe! Perhaps she is trying to be saintly now that NBC and Barbara Walters have both decide not to do an interview with her. Flax Redeemed Vis-a-vis Prostate Cancer
2007-06-04 06:45:00 Back in 2002, a series of studies started coming out challenging the safety of flax seed oil for men in regard to prostate cancer. In October of that year, I wrote a newsletter questioning the validity of those studies, and I caught a lot of grief for taking that position. People questioned my judgement saying, "Why even go there?" "Better safe than sorry." "Why not just use fish oil to get your Omega-3’s?" Even many alternative health authorities backed away from flax based on those studies.

Does Jane Eyre need redeeming?
2007-04-30 13:33:00 A.N. Wilson - a well-known historian - writes an article on Jane Eyre for The Telegraph. We can't say we agree with many of the points he raises but it's at least nourrishing food for thought.Rereading Jane Eyre confirms memory's hunch that the first half is wonderful and the second half is drivel.Well, that's up to the reader to decide. And the second part - in out humble opinion - is vital for Jane's development as an independent, modern woman. Without the second half, Jane Eyre would be considered the masterpiece we know it to be.That said, it deserves a prize for both its opening sentence and its last. "There was no possibility of taking a walk that day" should be studied by anyone who wants to write a novel. It is a sentence that is quiet, modest, matter-of-fact, but that draws you in immediately. By the end of the second sentence, we have met Jane's odious aunt Mrs Reed, and the wretchedness of Jane's orphan childhood and her lovelessness among the Reed cousins begins t...

At least they redeem themselves
2007-03-27 04:47:00 Sometimes I joke that it's a good thing my kids are cute or else I might kill them. I'm joking people. Don't get your panties bunched up. My point is that although I love my kids dearly they can drive me absolutely batty.I recently boo-hooed in this post about not liking my oldest daughter at times. By the way the support was overwhelming and I'm very thankful that so many of you "get" me. My darling Madeline redeemed herself this weekend. The child who had been the brattiest of brats last week was a dream child over the weekend. Not only was she behaving well but she did some very nice things. Her cousin came over to play and Madeline took it upon herself to give her cousin her Bratz doll case and all it's contents because she knows how much this cousin loves to play with Bratz dolls. Then later she asked permission to give her Wekinz member name and password to a couple of little girls that she knows are too poor to have their own Webkinz. Madeline has always been thoughtful ...
