Former Redskin says Nay to Patriots IR methods
2008-05-23 03:59:00
[Note by Skin Patrol, 05/23/08 8:55 AM EDT ] Promoting this story for a couple reasons. First, it's an interesting story from Ross Tucker, who is a former Redskin. Second, CptChaosSidekick is going to be helping me with content on the site in the coming weeks; this is just the beginning. Edited slightly. I've listened to former Redskin O-Linemen Ross Tucker a lot on Sirius satellite radio, and everytime he's on, the man spits truth. Link: Last Friday, in an article published on SI.com, Tucker wrote that: "I had heard the Patriots did this before I signed with them in 2005 and I saw it firsthand during my time there. I asked veteran receiver Troy Brown about it one time and he responded, 'Every team in the league does that.' I quickly let him know none of the three teams I played for previously had done so. It's my personal belef that the Pats do go out of their way to get a competitive advantage on other teams, but do they all pratice this? Apparently not, he thinks: Basic...
2008 Adopt-a-Redskin Program
2008-05-01 00:14:00
Okay, after a formal request from dr WNC, here is your official post to keep track of who has whom. I'll try to update it as much as possible. As far as what is expected, I'll just steal what I wrote before: ... the program is all about hyping your player [sic] over all the other players, even to the point of over hyping him. Think of it as your chance to be an online Flava Flav (best hype man ever) for your guy. And remember, [Your Player's name]'s future on this team rests on your shoulder. Good luck to you and your player. Here's who I can remember has already taken a player. let me know if I overlooked someone or if you'd like to take a player off the board. Redskin cracks top 10 receivers of all time list
2008-03-26 19:16:00
I'm busy so I need to keep this short. Mike Sando at ESPN asked a panel of experts -- justified at the bottom of the article -- who the best wide receivers of all time were. A Redskin cracked the top 10, but probably not the guy you're thinking of: 6. CHARLEY TAYLOR Career: Played for Redskins 1964-77. All-time leading receiver with 649 catches for 9,110 yards when he retired. Elected to Hall of Fame in 1984. Quick quote: "Those types of athletes who played more than one position --- Charley Taylor -- are worth the price of admission just to see them line up. That is an athlete right there, a subject in itself." -- [Raymond] Berry Art Monk came close: Among those left on the outside, Art Monk, [Raymond] Berry and James Lofton came closest to cracking the top 10... Monk drew two top-five selections, topped by a No. 4 ranking from Johnson. Three other panelists left off Monk entirely. Johnson, the youngest panelist by a wide margin, steered clear of ranking players from earlier e...
DJ Hackett is not a Redskin
2008-03-17 20:52:00
Update [2008-3-17 19:35:32 by TexSkins]: Another WR that had been talked about, Bryant Johnson, signed with the Niners. Anyone else have any other WRs on the radar, or are we officially waiting for the draft? For all the huffing and puffing about Hackett visiting the team, he ended up with the Panthers. Per ESPN: Determined to end the constant double teams of their star receiver, the Carolina Panthers came to terms Monday with Seattle free agent D.J. Hackett on a two-year, $3.5 million deal. The reason for the contractual friction was, per usual, financial in nature: Hackett spent last week visiting Washington -- he had a minimum salary offer from the Redskins -- Tampa Bay and Carolina, where he met with coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney and talked on the phone with Smith. Two-year 3.5M dollar contract is not minimum and kudos to Hackett for getting paid. Also kudos to the Redskins for exercising some uncharacteristic fiscal restraint in this player's market. Red...
Will Demps be a Redskin?
2008-03-03 23:34:00
See what I did thar? His first name is Will (like mine!) and then I simultaneously used it as a verb. Very, very sharp rhetoric by yours truly. My mother says I'm handsome as well. That's enough. Per Redskins Insider: Houston free agent safety Will Demps has scheduled a visit to Redskins Park for sometime next week. league sources said. Demps, 28, is a former starting safety with the Ravens, Giants and Texans. I've just learned that Will Demps was an AFC alternate for the Pro Bowl: Given the stupendous seasons being had by several other Texans, why is DeMeco the only one packing for Hawaii?  Sure, Mario Williams, Kris Brown, and Will Demps (not bad for a dude who was signed off the street after the season started) were named "alternates" for the AFC squad.  That's better than nothing, I guess. Alternate behind a gentleman by the name of Ed Reed, who happens to be pretty good at football. Redskins 360 calls this a starter move, which doesn't bode well for Reed Doughty:...
Brandon Lloyd no longer a Redskin
2008-02-27 01:00:00
Brandon Lloyd was cut, released, let go, scape goated, discharged, etc. CptChaosSidekick said it and indeed, the national nightmare is finally over. Redskins.com: Lloyd's two-year stint with the Redskins proved to be a disappointment. He was never able to establish himself in the Redskins' offense. Redskins Insider: As expected. The final stats: 25 receptions, zero touchdowns. For $10 million in guaranteed money. Ryan Wilson at Fanhouse: And so ends another chapter in the forgettable 2006 Redskins off-season. Safety Adam Archuleta barely made it through one season before getting shipped to Chicago (after collecting $10 million in guarantees, of course), and now Lloyd, the guy some Redskins coach/front-office type thought would complement Santana Moss nicely and give Jason Campbell another deep weapon, is free to work on his freestylin' skillz 24/7. DC Sports Bog: Lllllllllloyd... Ouch. Redskins 360: The moody receiver was arguably the biggest bust in Redskins history. He cost Was...
Ethan Albright: Still a Redskin
2008-02-18 19:25:00
Update [2008-2-18 17:19:45 by Skin Patrol]: More money quotes from Albright per drWNC per, I'm told, the Local Greensboro paper. That's a good enough source for me! LS Ethan Albright continued his trend of being the first player re-signed by the club in the off season, saying yesterday that he signed the one-year offer sent to him in the mail "Same contract as last year and that's more than enough for me,"... "I'm the unofficial NFL record-holder for minimum contracts for someone with (tenure)," he said. "There's significant salary-cap savings in signing me to those deals. In terms of NFL dollars, I'm at the bottom of the totem pole, but in terms of what I ever thought I'd make in my lifetime, I'm as happy as I can be with it." Albright = Core Redskin, if that term can mean anything. So maybe I'm just cheerleading the greatest rock eating long snapper to ever take the field, but why can't Ethan Albright get love? Big news from the Post and Redskins Insider is: ...and...
Does Toyota gain now that Gibbs isn?t a redskin?
2008-01-10 07:27:00
Joe Gibbs is in the football Hall of Fame, has a Super Bowl ring, and a NASCAR Winston Cup. And, he’s now out as the president and coach of the Washington Redskins.   So, does that mean that Gibbs will start paying more attention to the race team? Or does he leave his son, J.D., in the place where he put him: in charge?   Gibbs’ strength has always been considered to be his people skills, his ability to make a team cohesive. This past year, many believe that it was Gibbs’ unique capabilities in dealing with the many personalities on a team that made it possible for the Redskins to weather the loss of star Sean Taylor.   One ESPN commentator, David Newton, is weighing in. According to Newton, Gibbs’ NASCAR team “needs its Coach Joe.”   Well, maybe Joe’s smarter than that.   Joe put J.D. in charge of the team when Gibbs returned to football. At the time, it seemed apparent that the move caused ...

Game of inches; Redskins beat Cardinals 21-19
2007-10-21 23:07:00
Neil Rackers misses the field goal by mere inches to gie the Redskins an ugly, but important win. Full recap pending my heart starts beating again. Quick thoughts: Offense is horrible. Couldn't do anything to help out the defense whatsoever. Defense was great when they were scoring and getting turnovers, very soft looking when they needed to be tough, though great job stopping the two point conversion. Let's practice onside kick coverage, huh? Taunting penalties are stupid. You're better than that, London Fletcher, and you get my defensive MVP of the game. I don't know how we're supposed to beat the Patriots last week, we certainly won't do it by playing the way we did today. You score on defense, you get great field position due to turnovers, and you still meekly win by 2 points? On a missed field goal? Yikes.
Redskins host the Cardinals today at 1PM Eastern
2007-10-21 19:06:00
This is your gameday open thread. This is your Redskins.com gameday page. This is your NFL dot com game center. This is your Curly R open thread. Let's hope this is a win. We're still out Randy Thomas, we're probably out Shawn Springs as he is attending to personal matters, and both Stephon Heyer and Marcus Washington are listed as questionable. Your projected starting offensive line is: Chris Samuels next to Pete Kendall next to Casey Rabach next to Rick DeMulling next to Jason Fabini. I don't know if Kurt warner will play but on NFL Sunday Countdown they said his elbow is a problem when handing off, though he might play in some shotgun formations. That makes him doubtful to start; Tim Rattay gets it. Another bit of breaking news from NFL Sunday Countdown, though John Clayton looks like a fetus, he gives about the best football analysis of anyone on that show. A win here is clutch; we face New England next week, almost certainly as many points dogs. A loss today puts us at 3-3,...
The 1991 Redskins spit on this year's upstart Patriots
2007-10-19 20:10:00
I throw that out there, then I shuffle away quietly so that the big bad boy Patriots don't hear me and beat me up. The truth is, there's nothing critical to be said of New England's start thus far, and they are the last team in the NFL I would want to face on Sunday. That's next weekend. [Which is also why a win against the Cardinals is so vital, since losing very well will precede a loss to the Patriots, thus flushing us below .500.] Let's get this out of the way: I don't hate the Patriots, I fear them. I fear what they will do to my beloved team. But whatever horrible, mean, unholy things they decide to do to us, they can't take away the great things this franchise has already accomplished. Thus I'm free to engage in pissing contests between this year's Patriots and historic Redskins teams, or at least watch gleefully as someone else does it. Street Cred decided to research which team in recent history had the best 6-0 start and compared them to the Patriots. Teams repeat...
Should the Redskins have made a move?
2007-10-17 04:25:00
Trade deadline was today at 4PM Eastern and it was, as per usual, pretty boring. Chris Chambers went to San Diego for a 2nd round pick. Kind of a wash for the franchise, since it was a 2nd round pick they burned to draft Chambers, though I say good move by Miami nonetheless. Chambers is not a good WR and they can fill a need next season with that 2nd round pick. He will underperform in San Diego, in my opinion. Guy drops passes. The other trade was Michael Bennett to the Bucs from the Chiefs. I have no comment on this but encourage yours below. In any event, Football Outsider's Bill Barnwell, now writing for IGN, lists 5 teams that should've could've but didn't make transactions today, and sure enough there's Your Washington Redskins on his list: 3. Washington Redskins: The Redskins are another team in a tough division with two hard-luck losses to their name. While the Redskins usually struggle when injuries expose their lack of depth, they've stayed relatively healthy short t...
Greenbay beats Redskins
2007-10-15 13:45:00
Cornerback Charles Woodson scooped up the ball — and lifted the spirits of the Green Bay Packers’ suddenly sagging offense. Woodson’s 57-yard fumble return in the third quarter gave the Packers the go-ahead touchdown in a 17-14 victory over the Washington Redskins at soggy Lambeau Field on Sunday. “It was a big play today,” Woodson said. However, Brett Favre captured the record in the most interceptions thrown in the history of the NFL.
Redskins disappoint in loss to the Packers, 17-14
2007-10-15 04:20:00
I've been driving all day and have a lot of work to do prior to tomorrow, just picked a big fight with my steering wheel for about 3 hours (I won) and am emotionally and physically drained from the game. Some quick thoughts first this evening, though a closer analsyis of what went wrong, horribly wrong, pending this week. Offense: Owes the defense a beer and an apology. Fumbles and dropped passes were totally unacceptable and killed any chance we had at winning the game. I don't think Santana Moss has played a worse game in his career, and his fumble, recovered for a touchdown, was the reason we lost. Couldn't catch a cold, though neither could anyone else. Chris Cooley played very well, and I was impressed with Jason Campbell, who wasn't being helped much by anyone. The line flustered me as well, especially late in the game, and it will get worse before it gets better. We are destroyed by injury. Defense: Total waste of an excellent defensive performance. Sean Taylor had two in...
Battling more than the Redskins
2007-10-14 16:35:00
As the Green Bay Packers take on the Washington Redskins today, watch as running back DeShawn Wynn tries to overcome his battle with dehydration.Wynn will have a special bottle on sidelines that will aid him in replenishing fluids and electrolytes in hopes that he won't have to exit the game. The bottle will likely contain a mix of water, sports drink, and special additives to prevent any cramps or dehydration problems. Rachel Nichols of ESPN reports that Wynn has been instructed be within a one foot radius of the bottle at all times on Sunday.Of course, the lower temperatures and rain in the forecast should help.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Jason Campbell and the Redskins distinguished
2007-10-10 22:11:00
Per the Official Site: Redskins' quarterback Jason Campbell has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Redskins 34-3 victory over the Detroit Lions at FedExField last Sunday. It is Campbell's first honor as NFC Offensive Player of the Week. The Lions game marked only the 11th start of Campbell's career. Of course Campbell went on to say all the right things how he's just looking towards next week, though he's appreciative of being honored. Also: Redskins' defensive end Andre Carter was also nominated as NFC Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded eight tackles, two sacks, one safety and four quarterback hurries against the Lions. I'm assuming the lack of preemptive victory means he didn't win, though he had a helluva game as well. It is apparent now that Andre Carter's tear at the end of last season was just the beginning of his inevitable tear over the course of multiple seasons as a Redskin, which will cause tears in opposing qu...
This is a fish story. And the fish was as big as a Lion. Redskins win 34-3
2007-10-08 01:23:00
Hyperbole won't even do this win justice. Chris says: "Based on nothing other than my current euphoric state and the fact that beer creates hyperbole, I have to say that was the most enjoyable Redskins victory in their 75 year history." Who am I to disagree? Awful Announcing shows us what will surely be one of the best moments of this season, thanks to Mike Sellers eating alive Kennedy, below: With Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry killing people on defense (and special teams; did anyone else see Sean Taylor ruin #39 on James Thrash's long return?) and Mike Sellers forcing defenders to tackle using leg sweeps -- cowardice! -- I daresay that the Redskins are creating an identity of a blue collar dollar kind of team that makes you pay for catching balls or trying to tackle large, scary fullbacks. Make that 21-0 against the Lions in our house. Make that 12-0, Coach Gibbs against. Best game of JC's career thus far? Absolutely, though I can't recall the last time the defense has played...

2007-10-05 21:51:00
God wills it. Taken from Kissing Suzy Kolber. Yesterday Christmas Ape at KSK matched up John Kitna's God vs. our own Joe Gibbs' God: Praise be! The Lord's favored football disciples are rewarded by being on winning teams. Tony Dungy's Colts are 4-0, Shaun Alexander's C-Hox are 3-1, and facing off this week are Jon Kitna's surprising 3-1 Lions and Joe Gibbs' 2-1 godless sun worshipers. Of course, God's linebacker, Ray Lewis, is holding everybody back with the Ravens' disappointing 2-2 start, but he's been known to stray from time to time, anyway. Jesus' love is on the line. WHO YA GOT? Uhm, Coach Gibbs, duh. He has the vengeful God and "Fatuous Redskins fans" supporters, which I assume is a complement. More importantly than that, Lions WR Roy Williams is an immoral monster for failure to tip pizza delivery guys. Tipping is not a matter of etiquette. It is a moral imperative that you subsidize the meager earnings of people who use their own vehicles to deliver you pizz...
"It" will come, Redskins fans
2007-10-04 22:19:00
What is "It"? A win on Sunday? Cheaper parking at FedEx field? New unis? Forget that noise, yo, we're talking about choreographed dancing by the Redskins defense: I[, Dan Steinberg] told [Marcus Washington] that the fans[, especially Skin Patrol] still demand [through prayer, human sacrifice, and handwritten notes to Santa Claus] some coordinated defensive between-possessions dancing. "You've just kind of got to feel that thing out as the year goes along," he explained. "There's kind of a lot of freelancing going on right now, but nothing organized just yet. It usually takes a little time. But it'll come." Oh sweet lovely choreographed defensive dancing, nothing would make me prouder of Your Washington Redskins than them busting out in some Thriller. Yea, that would be the business. Alternate soundtracks suggested. That's the kind of football everyone would watch, even... football players.
Week Three Fantasy Football Answers Part I - Giants/Redskins, Jets/Bills an
2007-10-03 22:03:00
With the conclusion of the 2007 fantasy baseball season, I am going to approach the Answers to my Sunday Questions a little differently.  I'll be offering longer commentary on each game's answers but may not adress every game as a result.  If I miss a game, feel free to post a diary or a comment in one of the posts and I will do my best to offer my $0.02 USD. Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants (+3): In Week Three, the Eagles score 56 points.  In Week Four, their scoring output drops by 94.6% despite having a 100-yard rusher in Correll Buckhalter.   In addition to allowing just three points, the Giants recorded a video-game-esque 12 sacks.  This certainly had something to do with the Eagle's new found inability to execute any semblence of a passing attack.   Sadly, the Giants offense was just barely better than the Eagles as QB Eli Manning threw for a high-school-like 130 or so yards with a non-descript running attack. Fantasy implications: A ru...

Redskins and Playoffs does not compute
2007-09-27 00:11:00
Danger, Skin Patrol! My beloved Football Outsiders stings me whenever they criticize Your Washington Redskins though I respect their honesty and method. (Hat tip: AOL Fanhouse.) They recently simulated 5,000 seasons based only on the data accumulated through three weeks of play and computed each team's respective likelihoods of regular season success. Everyone, meet method: The playoff odds report plays out the season 5,000 times. A random draw assigns each team a win or loss for each game. The probability that a team will be given a win is based on an equation which considers the current DAVE ratings of the two teams as well as home-field advantage... [link above to FO will provide DAVE rating explanations] ... Mean Wins is the average number of wins for this team over the 5,000 simulations. Odds are given for winning each playoff seed, as well as for winning the division (DIV), earning a bye week (BYE), or winning a wild card (WC). TOT represents odds of making the playoffs in a...

Len Pasqurelli Says Redskins Jason Campbell Has Arrived - Beat Phili
2007-09-18 18:41:00
And I agree. I didn't see the game, but I've long believed that Campbell would grow into the position and be not just the Redskins leader, but one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Remember, he came out in the same draft at Alex Smith and Aaron Rogers, yet wasn't even considered as good as those two. He was drafted in the first round, but his selection was virtually ignored by many. Watch out for Campbell.
Hail to the Redskins!

Redskins @ Eagles tonight for MNF
2007-09-17 23:39:00
The team was ready to kick a field goal, and then Andy Reid said no job, and then we decided we'd give the offense another chance to get a delay of game penalty, a false start, and then finally Jason Campbell made the perfect pass to Chris Cooley. The game certainly would've been different had Coach Reid just let Suisham kick a field goal. Count me satisfied. This isn't beating the Miami Dolphins, at home, in overtime, by a Shaun Suisham field goal. This is beating a division rival, a worthy adversary, a 7 point favorite, on the road, against the meanest fans in the nation, despite losing the turnover battle, despite not getting it done on the ground, etc. Etc. Etc. This is great defense. This is being 2-0 football, and more than anything, this is Your Washington Redskins looking professional. 20-12. Kickoff and gameday info at the Official Site. Redskins no longer the most valuable franchise
2007-09-14 21:21:00
My amigo Seth from Double T Nation, ever aware that I'm interested in Redskins related news cycles, sent me an email noting that the Washington Redskins are no longer the most valuable franchise in sports. I should also shout out Niners Nation as the resident blogger sent me an email as well, linking to the Forbes article that claims as much. A typical blogger response would be to call shenanigans, question the Forbes methodology or call their conclusion absurd, especially since they've bestowed the Most Valuable Franchise moniker to our hated rival Cowboys. The truth is, when Forbes called the Redskins the most valuable franchise I was all over it, saying out awesome it was and how right they were. As a matter of consistency, the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in the NFL, sports. Silver lining is that we're still second. At 1.5B, the Cowboys just squeeze over us (1.467B) and both our teams eat the rest of the league by many hundreds of millions of dollars. This i...
Marcus Mason to practice squad, Omar Stoutmire a Redskin again
2007-09-14 21:00:00
Late getting to this news, but on Wed. the team signed Omar Stoutmire and released running back Marcus Mason. Mason takes the place of Anthony Trucks on the practice squad; Trucks had a strong name but little else, apparently. The news is devastating for Ben, who had grown attached to Marcus Mason and convinced me to believe. Ben also addresses the roster rules should someone try and steal Mason off the PS: Marcus Mason cleared waivers and signed with the team's practice squad which is good for the team though as the season wears on I will not be surprised if the Redskins are not forced to promote him to the roster. Practice squad rules state that other teams may sign any practice squad player to the regular roster and the player's team has right of first refusal but must promote the player to the regular roster if the team wishes to keep the player. Once promoted to the regular roster a player may be on the active or inactive list on gameday. In other words, if a team decides the...
Redskins win over Miami video recap
2007-09-14 00:49:00
I was most impressed by a Miami Dolphins fan who put up Dolphins highlights from the game: Guy gets an E for effort, but what the deuce? You don't put your team's highlights to Hoobastank when the final score was 16-13, bad guys. This masochist wanted to relive the disappointing loss so bad he makes a 9:20 long video recounting the how. He has all these great tackles, sacks, catches for the Dolphins yet still is forced to end on a Shaun Suisham kick. Can't touch you Miami Dolphins? Oh we just did.
Redskins go 1-0! Washington 16, Miami 13 in OT
2007-09-10 00:20:00
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! Skins pull out a sloppy game in overtime. Discuss. My quick take: YAY Portis (5.8 yds/carry) and the running game in general Randle El Suisham under pressure Campbell long passes BOO Campbell bad decisions Smoot dropping easy picks Saunders not trusting the running game more Jansen's ankle And my favorite thing of the day is the Eagles getting punk'd by Green Bay. Here's a fun quote from Bleeding Green Nation: I now have to call cingular tomorrow morning and get a new cell phone... and i gotta figure out how to fix the hole in my drywall... i really wish i was kidding about this one Hee hee hee.
Week 1 Open Thread: Dolphins at Redskins
2007-09-09 19:05:00
Miami Dolphins (0-0) at Washington Redskins (0-0) Sunday, September 9 1:00 pm EST, CBS FedEx Field Partly Cloudy, 81 degrees Line: Redskins -3, Over/Under 34.5 Today's Inactives Dolphins: RB Lorenzo Booker, QB John Beck, S Courtney Bryan, DT Steve Fifita, CB Andre Goodman, DE Rob Ninkovich, LB Abraham Wright and DT Rodrique Wright Redskins: CB David Macklin, TE Cody Boyd, DT Lorenzo Alexander, WR Shaun Bodiford, DT Ryan Boschetti, RB Marcus Mason, and OL Todd Wade 3 Absolute Keys to the Game 1. Contain Santana Moss. The last time Will Allen saw Santana Moss, Moss torched Allen, who was a Giant at the time, for 3 long touchdowns in a Redskins win. This time, it will again be Allen assigned to the duty of covering Washington's top receiver. The safeties are going to have to do a better job than New York's did at bracket covering Moss. Shutting Moss down will go a long way to improving Miami's chances of winning. 2. Win the field position battle. In a game...

Preview: Redskins Offense vs Dolphins Defense
2007-09-08 09:17:00
Miami Dolphins (0-0) at Washington Redskins (0-0) Last season, the Redskins offense was clearly a run-oriented offense, as Al Saunders offenses generally are. They ranked 4th in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging over 138 yards on the ground per game. But through the air, that was a different story. For the season, they ranked 21st in pass offense, averaging just 189 yards through the air, which was actually lower than Miami's passing offense led by guys like Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington. That right there shows you how much of a disappointment this Washington offense was last year. However, some of that can be attributed to the switch that was made at quarterback following week 10. That was when Jason Campbell finally took over as the team's QB, and though he didn't light the world on fire, he certainly didn't play poorly, throwing 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 7 games. But before we get to Campbell and the passing game, let's talk more about the g...
Preview: Dolphins Offense vs Redskins Defense

Miami Dolphins (0-0) at Washington Redskins (0-0) Ah yes, it's finally time to really examine a football game. For the first time in 9 months, the Dolphins will play a meaningful game. So let's get right to previewing it with a look at how the Dolphins offense might handle this Redskins defense. Then be sure to check back tomorrow, as we talk about what the Dolphins defense might do against Washington's offense. Last season, this Redskins defense was simply quite bad. They ranked 31st in the NFL in total defense, giving up 355 yards per game. They only foreced 12 turnovers, which was by far the worst total in the league. In fact, the next lowest turnover total was 19. And they were also dead last in the NFL in sacks, picking up just 19 in the entire season. What does this all mean on Sunday? It's hard to tell, as things change in this league so quickly. The one thing, though, that I'd bet my money on is that Trent Green is going to be blitzed often. Why? Becau...
Hail to the Redskins
2007-09-06 17:10:00
Tonight kicks off the 2007 NFL season, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I've been a huge fan my entire life. In fact, one of my earliest memories is sitting on the couch next to my dad watching a game.In honor of tonight I'd like to make my Super Bowl picks. Anyone who has ever been around Redskins Nation knows two things: we have the best fans in all of sports, and we always pick the Redskins to win the Super Bowl. Generally speaking, they've sucked for about 15 years, so usually it's a joke when we pick them. However, last year they were coming off a solid playoff season, and I legitimately picked them. But, they let us all down, going back to their stinky ways with a 5-11 record. As a joke, like most seasons, I will pick the Redskins to win the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. But for "I told you so" purposes, I'll go with the Patriots over the New Orleans Saints.
5 Good Questions: Redskins Edition
2007-09-06 07:02:00
With the regular season opener against the Redskins just days away, Will of Hogs Haven, SB Nation's Redskins site, was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to discuss his Redskins and this week's upcoming game.  We each exchanged 5 questions.  To see my responses to his questions, head on over to Hogs Haven. Are you at all concerned with the health of Clinton Portis and how do you see the team handling the RB situation against Miami?  Will both Portis and Ladell Betts get a fairly even number of touches or will one receive a heavier load? I'd be crazy saying that I wasn't at all concerned with CP's health in the coming season. I think we need him in the lineup to perform offensively, especially in the red zone. Moreso than Ladell Betts, and probably anyone on the team, Portis has a keen olfactory sense for the end zone. We left 4 points on the field a number of times last year in the red zone when he wasn't out there and in some meaningful way ...

Final game of the preseason is tonight and I'm hopping mad crazy that we're just weeks away from real bona fide football. As per usual, the game will be shown locally on WUSA-TV 9 and Comcast SportsNet which means those unfortunate souls, such as myself, outside of the DC area will have a hard time catching the game. That won't stop us from trying. Kickoff is at 7:30PM Eastern. I'm sure my blogging colleague River City Rage at Big Cat Country will be watching, so head on over there for a bit of good willed trash-talking. Big story line, er, as "big" as one can be for a preseason game, that deserves mention. Hard to believe It isn't the case that Mark Brunell is playing Jacksonville for the first time since he left tonight (see below): Brunell is expected to see significant action as competes to become Jason Campbell's primary backup. He is competing with Todd Collins, who has looked sharp in three games in preseason but hasn't thrown a regular-season pass since 2004. If Cam...
Redskins win, Redskins win!
2007-08-26 18:53:00
As if preseason games weren't meaningless enough, this time we won a pretend game that barely qualifies as even that given it was cut short in the third quarter. NFL recap. Official Site recap. Oh yea and nobody played: The Redskins played without six projected starters: Campbell, running back Clinton Portis (knee tendinitis), left tackle Chris Samuels (sprained knee), linebacker Marcus Washington (dislocated elbow), cornerback Shawn Springs (precautionary rest) and left guard Pete Kendall, who arrived only two days earlier in a trade with the New York Jets. Silver lining: SB Nation's own Paragon SC from Conquest Chronicles noticed a big day out of Dallas Sartz, as he and Anthony Tony Trucks (it just sounds better) teamed up for a one-two punch on Kyle Boller that resulted in a Sartz touchdown. Obviously you hope that every 5th round pick results in a productive starter at best, at a minimum a roster spot. Dallas was not receiving a huge amount of praise heading into this game tho...
Beating the buzzer Open Thread: Redskins host Ravens
2007-08-26 02:53:00
I'm running around like a chicken with head cut off so forgive me if I don't provide the usual flurry of information prior to the game, though thankfully my tardiness in getting this up was assisted by delays due to weather; everything you need to know is here. This is a pitiful effort on my part and I apologize for that, but I've been driving for hours today and just wanted to provide a thread where fans could discuss the game in real time. I should be around(ish) to discuss back, so if you have any questions or just want to shoot shit over the game, post a comment below. Also check out Baltimore Beatdown which has its own open thread available for your viewing pleasure. As always, my dude Ben will be all over this game if you absotively posilutely need to talk Redskins right this minute, and I'm in absentia. This is your Washington Redskins open thread. I'll update and post below as time permits.
