A Small Reflection On The Constant Leftist Call For Unity
2008-06-19 01:21:00 It is a demand for everybody to agree with them of course — and a threat to all dissent. Obama is the most notable practitioner at the moment. So we should not be surprised that the country which invented welfare legislation — Germany — still focuses heavily on unity in their national anthem: Einigkeit und Recht ...
Vesak Reflection on the Medical Profession
2008-06-10 10:49:00 Vesak Reflection on the Medical Profession by Nalin Swaris - The Island ' News Paper ?Physicians? as the very term implies deal with the body, which is subject to sickness, decay and death. As such physicians seem to be engaged in a Sisyphean task ? an absurd, but for many lucrative, preoccupation devoted to propping up what Shakespeare called "this muddy vesture of decay". But if we shed the devaluation of the body on the basis of an assumed dichotomy of body and soul or the body and a rebirthing identity consciousness in mainstream Buddhism, we will have an exhilarating perspective on human existence. It helps us to cultivate a holistic view of the human person as a totality of vital processes or synergies. Whatever our religion, ethnicity or social status all human beings are subjected to the paradoxical character of the human condition. We must all die. What ethics ...
Weekend Reflection- Too Much to Do So Little Time
2008-06-08 23:16:00 This week has been a nuts, crazy went by way too quickly kind of week. I worked Monday-Thursday at a store in Roseville. We got through the whole project a lot faster than expected. Tomorrow we are headed to Auburn. With the way gas prices are going I am not looking forward to the half hour drive every day. My husband figured it out by the end of the week it will cost me about $50 in gas to drive there and back. Hopefully we can get that store done as quickly as we did the one in Roseville. I offered to give a co worker a ride there and back if he could pitch in on gas but when he returned my phone call he hung up on me. Courtney finished the school year on Thursday. She also received the top academic award for her class. I am so proud of her! I can't believe that I can now say that she is in sixth grade. Ciara is quite the budding artist. She got a hold of some chalk and scribbled all over the television one day. Then a couple of days later instead of going to sleep s...

Apology, planning, reflection
2008-06-08 04:29:00 It's been a while that I have not posted in this blog. Shall I need to apologize to my readers? Perhaps 'Yes'. Blogging is a hobby. I ought not to have any responsibility at all whether I post or not. I am not compelled to write. No one is forcing me. Should I apologize? This time I say 'No'. Well, I would be ungrateful if I say no because I have to be accountable not just to myself but also to you. I should write, that's for myself. And I will continue to write, that's for you. Because you inspire me to write especially with your intelligible, sincere, honest, and sometimes harsh comments. The last time I posted was 22 May, and its 8 June. That's 2 weeks. Two weeks of thinking and reflecting what I ought to do in 2008-2009. I planned my life carefully, though plans may get failed. But as long as there is a plan, I can feel myself secured. Planning makes life easier. I set goals--writing goals. I promised myself to write 2 pages per day five days a week, from Monday to Friday...
Is Cinema the Reflection of Society?
2008-06-07 10:06:00 Overall cinema is not the exact reflection of society. It is exaggerated a lot in cinema. Some examples include the stunt scenes performed by Hero beating the entire villain gang single handedly. More: continued here

Days That I Started to Turn Mature
2008-06-06 14:56:00 As I was doing my probational evaluation with my boss today to finalise everything and get me as a confirmed staff in the Lab, I realised how much patience I had towards my alleged problematic superior... I don't see myself feeling vexed and angry on what she has commented about my performance... I just listened and take whatever she has got to say about me, no matter how untrue her words are...Irony or funny as circumstances are, I started to see the humble and tolerant self in me... From once having a prospectus and bright scientific career when I was in Hopkins, till being "banished" to A-star to work as a high class laboratory administrator where my title was supposed to be in the lab doing experiments... and right now in a new Lab with my new boss expecting me to be an in-house technician developing kits based on my past experiences to reduce the cost to purchase commercial kits and doing some other ad hoc experiments which I had no idea whose project I was running for... Time For Reflection
2008-05-26 15:45:00 We interrupt this regularly scheduled program to talk to you about what today really means… Today we are going to go over the houses of our friends and family or maybe even just stay home while we fill up on hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad. While we are enjoying this great day that we have come to love so much, let’s not forget all the women and men who have fought and are still fighting for our country. We have lost 4082 since the war began and the numbers just seem to get higher and higher with each passing day. These are fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters - and while we’re out having fun we need to take a moment to think about them and why we really should be celebrating Memorial Day. It is a day to remember the people who have given their lives to keep our country safe. By all means, enjoy your day… and don’t eat too much! Weigh-in day is only 4 days away
Don Miguel Ruiz & 4 Agreements worth reflection
2008-05-18 03:44:00 Don Miguel Ruiz is a Toltec master who reminds us humans are conditioned to think and act based on systems of reward and punishment, external approval and rejection. To move beyond the image of perfection we create and imagine is out of reach, that causes us to reject ourselves and judge others, Ruiz invites us to make four agreements within ourselves. How many resonate with you? Why encourage new self-awareness? 1) Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using words against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in directions of truth and love. How often do you diverge? Where does this path take you?2) Don't take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dreams. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of nee...
Just Ask Her
2008-05-16 21:36:00 She planted herself in front of us this morning teetering on her twisted legs like a tree swaying in the wind. Her teeth trapped her bottom lip inside her mouth. With elbows locked, she held her thumbs and forefingers outstretched. Her remaining fingers curled into her palms giving her the appearance of a gunslinger. A strap around her neck held a laptop sized key board with a built in screen for reading digital text.Like most mornings, she stared at us with something like defiance or urgency? or something else.Upon encountering her, both The Mayor and The Rooster grabbed one of my hands and snuggled against my legs.Despite having drawn close, they were both wide-eyed with curiosity. They see her everyday but have never said anything about her.Though she?s a teenager, her mother drops her off at The Mayor and The Rooster?s daycare every morning, presumably because it opens and hour earlier than the high school.I think she has cerebral palsy, but I?ve never asked. She can walk but to co...

Reflection
2008-05-16 16:51:00 I was looking at myself in the mirror and was not exactly pleased with what I saw. After bearing a child, pregnancy and breastfeeding sure has taken a toll on my once slim body. Now that I've got the mommy figure, I realise how much difficult it is this time to lose the excess weight. Leptovox may be a quick fix solution but I want a program that I can take seriously and hopefully make a good habit out of it.

A Small Dose of Acceptance
2008-05-10 04:00:00 For the last seven months I?ve been a hermit, holed up on my own and keeping to myself.[You know, doing the whole grief thing.]Sometime in the recent past I noticed streams of stubborn, persistent sunlight sneaking through the slats of my down-turned window blinds. Curious, I opened the front door with squinted and adjusting eyes to see that my entire yard was full of people. At first I hurried back inside and shut the door. Oh, my GOD! Who ARE all those people and what are they doing in my yard?!!Gradually I went out among them. They invited us to their houses for dinners and play dates and we invited them back...They made us laugh. They have us out and about, walking around our neighborhood."Let's go on an adventure!" The Rooster says. I like thinking of our walks that way.The other day we were strolling up a quiet, neighborhood street hand in hand letting the perfect evening breeze billow all around us.I beamed, feeling happy.I thought about the new people in our lives and the acc...

Medical Femininity
2008-05-07 14:15:00 My friend was talking to her nine year old son about what he wanted to be when he grew up."How about being a doctor," she asked. Her son rolled his eyes."I CAN'T be a DOCTOR, Mom! I'm not a GIRL!!"She was stunned. That her son's experience of doctors is entirely female says a lot about the professional strides women have made.Still, the notion of progress is called into question in that it remains anathema for a boy to envision himself in a role he perceives as inherently female.

2008-05-06 23:58:00 It’s a spider-eat-fly-world; that’s what the photograph above depicts. Weekend Reflection- Spiritual Growth
2008-05-03 18:09:00 This week was very busy but rewarding. I started my new job working as a merchandiser for Prism Retail Services. The job is very simple but fun. I met some nice people and am looking forward to next week. We had a parish mission at our church this past week. It was put on by Deacon Glenn Harmon. Even though every night was late and I had to get up at 5 am the following morning it was worth the sacrifice. This experience really helped me to grow spiritually and learn how to get closer to Jesus during this difficult time in my life. I learned about forgiveness, love and that God has a purpose for me. I may not understand what that purpose is right now but if I pray enough I will be able to listen to God and learn what that purpose is. The challenge I have had is trying to listen to what God is telling me. I have heard people say that they can hear God speaking to them in the quiet places in their heart. I don't know if I have to get closer to God to experience that or...

Body & Spirit
2008-05-01 13:05:00 Last Friday Elke and Michael invited us to dinner and afterwards they turned on a movie so that the short and loud people would go slack for a while. We had a fascinating discussion about what each of us wants to happen to our bodies after we die.[To hell with small talk!]Michael said he wanted to be buried in a cemetery next to Elke, but Elke wanted to be cremated and to have her ashes scattered.K was unsure and I was ambivalent."Why does it matter?" I asked. We talked about various deaths in each of our families and how they were handled.*****Michael recently buried his great uncle in a community cemetery where he's surrounded by other deceased friends and family members.Michael is comforted by the thought of this as his uncle's final resting place. He imagines his uncle at home in a place where his eternal neighbors are souls that he knew and loved throughout his life.*****Elke?s mother died of lung cancer three years ago.Bucking Jewish tradition, Elke honored her mother?s last ...

Social services of proximity, a reflection of a society
2008-04-28 11:15:00 Social services of proximity, a reflection of a societyThe communities, large and small, across Europe are in a phase of economic and social transformation through the decline in traditional industries, the rapid immigration, an ageing population and higher prices for housing, and by an increase in street crime and anti - social. Social services and its partners in the sectors of education, health, employment and housing, realize that they must work together to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and to strengthen community cohesion. On July 4 and 2.3, is organized in Paris by the European Social Network, the 16th European Conference of social services. The conference recognizes the important role of proximity services in the communities in constant change, sometimes divided on issues and they work, and explores the experiences of many European countries in this field. http://www.esn-eu.org

My Camera The Rose, Not the Sword
2008-04-27 19:20:00 I walked through the park, closing my eyes and smelling in the deep-pollen-infested air. The sun hung high up, beaming brightly at me, sending its warmth to my face. When You First Understood Death
2008-04-21 14:00:00 The grandmother of one of Rooster's daycare friends passed away a few mornings ago.Rooster's friend has two older brothers - one is nine and the other is twelve.Until about six months ago, their grandmother was actively involved in this family's lives, regularly taking the kids to the zoo and often out to dinner. When I picked up Roo today, I stood in the play yard talking with the children's mother. We talked about her husbands grief and the way grief just goes on and on, coming and going like the ebb and flow of ocean waves, rising and falling. We talked about how her children were reacting to the news. She thought maybe it hadn't fully hit them yet... or that maybe it had.The nine year old keeps asking not to talk about it.How we hide from hurtful things.Talking about her children's reaction to the death of their grandmother made me remember my own first memory of death, the moment I understood the idea that someone I loved could die, was dead.I was nine.My mother called me i...

Weekend Reflection
2008-04-11 17:49:00 This week has been hectic. I am trying to organize my messy little house. When we moved I found out that I have too much stuff. I decided to go room by room organizing and putting things away. Our garage is still full of junk and I do not have the heart to throw any of it away. What I thought was going to be a day project has turned into a never ending one. Next weekend we are going to the local flea market and auction to sell our Magic Kids clothing line. I am also going to sell as much of the "junk" that I can. I get claustrophobic living in a cluttered house. Conan is teething and had a slight fever a couple of nights before his second tooth broke through. He is having a more difficult time with this teething thing than my daughters did. My mother-in-law gave him a dill pickle. The brine in the pickle helps numb the gums in a teething baby. Of course he loved it. Ciara is going through this I want phase. Whenever she sits on the potty she says, "I want a cookie." I am trying to...

My Kingdom Is Not of This World: An Imperfect Reflection on the Olympic Tor
2008-04-09 11:02:00 Over the past few days I?ve been watching with interest the protests facing the Olympic torch as it went from Greece, to London, to Paris, and yesterday to San Francisco. This weekend, prior to its arrival in London, a number of public figures, including Steve Redgrave, spoke out against the protests saying that sport should not be the pawn of politics. These figures were ostensibly making the argument that the messy symbolism and realities of ?politics? are and ought to be distinct from the ?pure? symbolism of Olympic sport. The problem with this line of argument is that it falls flat on its face in the first instance. A quick glance at the IOC?s own material on the Olympic ideal demonstrates that the Olympic organisers themselves are unable to separate themselves from the real world ? indeed, they are compelled to be fully involved in bringing about positive political change. The Olympic Truce is a prominent feature on the IOC?s web site describing the Olympic charter. Here they em...

Weekend Reflection
2008-04-04 19:11:00 I am going to make this Weekend Reflection post short because I have a very busy weekend ahead of me. This weekend my husband and I are going to a thing called Retrouvaille. It is basically a retreat set up by the Catholic Church for married couples who are close to splitting up. It is supposed to help heal your marriage. My husband and I do not have the happiest marriage so hopefully this will help. When you have financial difficulties like we have had it is hard on a marriage. We lost our home back in Wisconsin. Chris and I have been out of work for some time now and the bills and debts keep piling up. A lot of marriages split up due to finances. I don't want ours to be part of those statistics. The kids will be with Grandma and Grandpa this weekend while mom and dad work on their marriage. I am doing this for my kids. I will be back to post again on Monday.
