THE MEANING OF REFORMED AND VANTILLIAN AND RECONSTRUCTIONIST
2008-10-26 21:04:00 THE MEANING OF REFORMED AND VANTILLIAN AND RECONSTRUCTIONIST By Forrest Wayne SchultzI am Reformed and VanTillian and Reconstructionist. Actually, I am a bit hesitant to call myself by any of those names because there are misunderstandings about all of them. For instance, until fairly recently, there were few Reformed who had a concern for the arts. And it is no wonder when you look at the typical traditional Reformed systematic theology books, e.g. Hodge, Shedd, Berkhof. When you look under the doctrine of God there is NO mention, let alone discussion or emphasis, of God being beautiful and caring about beauty, of God having a great imagination, of God being creative, of God having a sense of humor, and of God being interesting. But I do not interpret this lack the way many people do by saying that we need to ADD to the Reformed theology a concern for the arts. NO! We need, rather, to say that traditionally Reformed theol...

Calvinism by Fives
2008-10-10 23:23:00 Calvinism seems to spread by fives: five points, five solas, and I bet we could think of other groups of five. Five Reformation countries (Germany, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, England). Five key Reformers (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Huss, Wycliffe). Okay, I know Huss and Wycliffe came earlier…. As most good Calvinists, I know my ...
Honesty cannot be reformed
2008-06-05 10:29:00 Jewish reformism is not bad per se. Orthodox Jews were the biggest reformers in their time: they have substituted rabbinical Judaism for the Temple-based, land-centered religion. The amount and severity of changes introduced by Pharisaic rabbis pales the current reformist attempts. There is, however, a critical difference between the Orthodox and reformist approaches, namely honesty. ...

What is a Reformed Blackhat?
2008-04-22 19:35:00 Nickycakes gets asked this question quite often. “What is a Reformed Blackhat?” Most people assume that it has something to do with spam or making cloaked pages to fool the search engines. Wrong, WRONG. First, take a look at what “blackhat” really means. For years, the terms “Black Hat” and “White Hat” ...

Winds of War: Can The Koran Be Reformed?
2008-03-24 17:14:00 From The Gathering Storm Blog Robert Spencer said that Islam can not be reformed until the Koran itself is reformed. Muslims say that?s impossible because the Koran is the verbatim transcript of the word of Allah as transmitted to Mohammed, his prophet. But is that really true? Is the Koran we see today the actual recitals of ...
Our Prison System Must Be Reformed

Currently the United States has the largest prison population in the world. 1 in 100 Americans is behind bars bringing the total prison population to around 1.6 million people. Confessions Of A Reformed Perfectionist And How I Learned To Let The Little

Leaning A Little On The Side of the Reformed
2008-01-06 02:20:00 Over the holidays, I have been getting good use of my iphone by listening to several good podcasts. One of my goals for this downtime was to listen and re-listen to the Building Bridges Conference Podcasts.I was able to do this and to make some poignant observations:1. Reformed theology and liberalism are totally incompatible.2. The SBC, historically, has been its healthiest when our theological leadership was thoroughly Reformed3. Some of the greatest SBC missionaries were decidedly Reformed and some of the greatest times of missionary endeavor in our convention came under their leadership.4. We have reached an all time low in concern for the Gospel and missions by the average SBC church member.5. The average SBC church member today has very little understanding of or appreciation for Reformed theology. Now while these observations may betray a great coincidence in our denomination, I am skeptical. It is ironic that the theological bent that some decry as anti-missional and evangeli...

Reformed Theology : The New Fad?
2007-11-30 23:47:00 A conference was held this week in a quiet little retreat center nestled among the Blue Ridge mountains. The topic of discussion was Reformed Theology. Specifically, what role Calvinism has played in the history of the Southern Baptist Convention and what role should it play in years to come. The conference was called, "Building Bridges" and was led by many well known pastors and convention leaders including, Dr Danny Akin, Dr. Al Mohler, Dr. Tom Ascol, Dr. Tom Nettles, Dr. David Nelson, Thom Ranier, David Dockery, Ed Stetzer, J.D. Greear, and others. Now that the dust has settled there are some specific things, according to reports, that we can definitely take away from this "meeting of the minds".1. The Doctrines of Grace (Calvinism) have played a prominent role in the development of Southern Baptist Convention.2. That the convention contains members who vary greatly on their views of the Doctrines of Grace. And that is okay!3. That the trend for younger theologians and pastors in...

Interpreting Augustine: Was He ?Reformed??
2007-09-15 15:45:00 A recent post of mine on Augustine spawned a debate concerning Augustine’s views on predestination. Someone asked if I knew what Augustine really believed on grace and free will. Because of my NY trip, my wedding plans, being ill and a lack of organisation I've lost it with the spending diary the last few days! I've bought stuff for the wedding which bf is re imbursing, I've sold stuff on Amazon and Ebay and received money from Cashback sites but I have no clue how much. My head has gone with this cold/bug I've had and I have no energy to work it all out. Oh well it's August now and I can start again. My Net Worth has increased by £1,270 which at least is the right way.

Can Islam be reformed?
2007-07-07 22:18:00 Many critics feel that Islam is in dire need of reform, similar to Christian Reformation, so that the peace-loving Muslims can be separated from those who dream of being “martyred”. I have held long and deep debates with many “moderate” or traditional Muslims as well as radicals to understand how they feel about such a ...
News & Current Events :: Christian Reformed Church to Enter Debate on Femal
2007-06-13 20:42:00 Author: Eric Subject: Christian Reformed Church to Enter Debate on Female LeadersPosted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:42 pm (GMT -4) Christian Reformed Church to Enter Heated Debate over Female Leaders Lillian Kwon Delegates of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in North America voted Tuesday night to reaffirm its position to allow women in leadership but with some compromise. Synod 2007, an eight-day meeting of the church's broadest assembly, voted to remove the word "male" as a requirement for holding ecclesiastical office in the church. The vote allows women to be ordained as ministers, elders, deacons or ministry associates. However, respecting the convictions of those who believe the Bible prohibits women serving as officer bearers, Tuesday's vote by synod delegates allows classes (regional assemblies) to set restrictions on women serving as delegates to classis meetings. The decision passed 112 to 70. "There will be many of us who continue to believe that...
Encounters with tradition (3): from Congregationalist to Reformed Baptist
2007-06-06 00:33:00 A guest-post by Guy DaviesCharles Haddon Spurgeon began his Christian life as a Congregationalist who believed in infant baptism. But soon after his conversion, he embraced Baptist views. His Congregationalist parents were a little disappointed in Charles? decision to seek baptism. But they gave him permission to follow his conscience. His mother wrote: ?Ah, Charles, I often prayed to the Lord to make you a Christian, but I never asked that you might become a Baptist.? The dutiful son replied with a note of typical Spurgeonic wit: ?Ah, Mother, the Lord has answered your prayer with his usual bounty, and has given you exceedingly abundantly above all you asked or thought.?I began my Christian life as a rather charismatic Congregationalist. I quickly became disillusioned with charismatic experiences as it became obvious to me that my ?speaking in tongues? was just me blurting out incomprehensible nonsense. I needed something that would give my new Christian life depth and stability an...

NATURAL LAW AND REFORMED THEOLOGY
2006-12-02 16:10:08 NATURAL LAW AND REFORMED THEOLOGYBy Forrest Wayne SchultzA Review of Stephen J. Grabill, Rediscovering The Natural Law in Reformed Theological Ethics ( Grand Rapids , Michigan : Eerdmans, 2006) ISBN 978-0-8028-6313-3 310 pagesThe Relevance of The Synod Of Dort I hold in my hand a book whose front cover is adorned with a beautiful print of an excellent painting of a very important historical event ? the convocation of the Synod of Dort during 1618 ? 1619 in the city of Dordrecht in Holland . I do not know if the author of this book ? the one under review here ? requested this particular cover art or not, but it is quite appropriate for the book?s content. The deliberations of the Synod of Dort were characterized by careful and courageous thinking, which enabled the participants to learn and be faithful to the particular truth of God needed to meet a serious deficiency in the church of that time. Dort, therefore, provides ...

Welcome to Fundamentally Reformed 2.0!
2006-08-06 19:00:11 This is Fundamentally Reformed 2.0. The layout is sharper, the features are improved, and hopefully the posting frequency will rise, as well! There is still a little tinkering for me to do in editing all my old posts; but, thankfully Wordpress.com makes it very easy to import BloggerBlogs into their equally free wordpress.com blogging system. Before signing out, let me mention some of the features I am most excited about. First, there is “recent comments”. This lets readers know where the action is, and even helps out the administrator in following up on everything. Second, there is the simplified categories. Third, working with pictures and graphics couldn’t be any easier with Wordpress.com (as opposed to Blogger). Lastly, there are many customizable features with regard to the sidebar and all the tools they provide are extremely user-friendly. I know I will miss some of the features of Blogger, particularly getting to play around with HTML on my own, so m...
