North Minahasa regent gets 18 months for corruption
2008-05-17 11:38:00
The Anti-Corruption Court sentenced on Friday Vonnie Anneke Panambunan, suspended regent of North Minahasa, in North Sulawesi province, to 18 months jail for embezzling Rp 4 billion (US$433,000) of state funds. The sentence, the lightest ever awarded by the court, is less than the two years demanded by prosecutors. The court also ordered Vonnie to repay the state loss and to pay an additional fine of Rp 100 million, or spend an additional six months in prison. "I accept (the punishment)," she said, in response to the verdict. Vonnie had already admitted her crime. The prosecutors have yet to decide if they will appeal against the sentence (within seven days). Vonnie has already repaid Rp 4 billion to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), acknowledging her crime. The court ordered that a small excess paid to the state over and above what she embezzled should be given back to her. Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com-
Steeped with history: Regent Street
2008-05-15 13:01:00
Steeped with history: Regent Street As a bustling hotspot for London’s thriving shopping community Regent Street has always been steeped in high street history and designer goods. In pictures: Regent Street hot spotsTherefore it comes as no surprise that since the architect John Nash designed and founded the street back in 1811, as a compliment to the ‘party’ Prince Regent, millions of shoppers have adorned the pavements in search of the perfect purchase.  Hustle and bustle: Regent Street is renowned for its shopping cultureIt took over fourteen years to complete Regent Street. It was declared a masterpiece of its time; instantly recognisable as the centre of London’s social scene. Bars and shops including the Café Royal have hosted talents such as TS Elliot and Oscar Wilde. The buildings escaped unscathed during World War I although the Nash Terraces were demolished. However in 2001 Regent Street was finally brought back to life with a major redeve...

Singapore Court directs Regent Garden sale to Allgreen to proceed
2008-04-17 06:18:00
Singapore Court directs Regent Garden sale to Allgreen to proceed By CHEW XIANG THE stop-start en bloc sale of Regent Garden, a 31-unit West Coast Road condominium, to Allgreen Properties looks set to finally go through after the High Court yesterday directed the majority owners to complete the agreement. The court also ruled that the Strata Titles Board’s decision in January to reject the deal was irrelevant and ordered the majority owners to pay costs to Allgreen, the developer. The agreement with Allgreen, originally signed in April last year, was first delayed when six owners out of the 31 held out. When the dissenting six finally agreed to sell out by November, the majority owners, who together own 25 units and over 80 per cent of the share value in Regent Garden, did an about turn and tried to abort the deal, arguing that the $34 million sale price was too low partly because of a wrongly estimated $7.2 million development charge. They wanted the High Court to void the ag...
Regent Garden owners ordered to complete Singapore en bloc sale to Allgreen
2008-04-17 06:10:00
Regent Garden owners ordered to complete Singapore en bloc sale to Allgreen  By Joyce Teo, Property Correspondent    OWNERS at Regent Garden must complete the collective sale of their condominium after the High Court handed down a landmark decision in favour of developer Allgreen Properties yesterday. The $34 million sale, which the Strata Titles Board (STB) threw out in late January, must be finalised by May 16. The decision ends one of the more unusual collective sale disputes. Initially, 25 owners signed off on the sale in April last year, but they later tried to overturn the deal, claiming, among other things, that the condo was undervalued. Although the owners had opted for a fixed $34 million price, they were unhappy that a development charge payable by Allgreen turned out to be much lower than expected. There were six dissenting owners in April, however. They later withdrew their objections, but the case still went to the STB. The STB usually assesses a sale if there are o...

Themajority owners, having agreed to sell their condominium, are now suingthe buyers. A group of 25 at the 31-unit Regent Garden (picture) is alleging thatdeveloper Allgreen Properties has breached the sale and purchase agreementby grossly undervaluing the condominium. On Friday, Allgreen struck back. Singapore Regent Garden en bloc sale contested
2008-01-19 01:40:00
Singapore Regent Garden en bloc sale contested By UMA SHANKARI (SINGAPORE) Allgreen Properties’ purchase of Regent Garden via a collective sale is now being contested by the majority sellers of the property, the company said in a filing to the Singapore Exchange yesterday. BT understands that the majority owners, who together own 25 of the 31 units and over 80 per cent of the share value in Regent Garden, are saying that the sale price of $34 million was agreed to as a result of a mistake regarding the development charge. Based on subsequent valuation reports - they claim that the true market value of Regent Garden should be between $39.7 million and $42 million. BT understands that Regent Garden’s sales committee did not officially ascertain the development charge before entering into the agreement with Allgreen. There is also some unhappiness at the higher prices the minority owners walked away with. The majority owners now want the High Court to declare that the colle...
