Regression Testing Revisited - Thanks to this Interesting Question!

“I am a regular reader of your blog and I find it very very useful. My name is Pankaj Shinde and I am working as a Software Tester in a well-known company. I have a doubt regarding Regression Testing. Generally we say that Regression Testing means to test whether any added functionality is affecting other functionalities or not. When functionality is added we write separate test cases for that

Past-Life Regression with the Angels
2007-11-28 23:32:00
As you learn to feel more comfortable communicating with your angels, this will enable you to discern details about your current life you may have suppressed or forgotten. People who choose to explore past-life regression in more depth can evolve to heal themselves of phobias, addictions and nagging emotional issues. If you desire to go further than exploring your own past lives, you may take courses that qualify you to assist others explore past lives and help them resolve issues. To believe in angels is to realize they are around to help you learn to help yourself at your pace. They won't do anything unless you ask. To do that, its necessary to know what you want. This in mind, realize angels won't act to live your life or learn your lessons for you. That is your responsibility. As you act to help yourself, you may benefit from exploring past-lives through meditation and hypnosis. Angels can help:1) Belief in past-life regression isn't required. DbFit 0.92: Better error reporting and easier regression tests
2007-11-28 07:25:00
A new release of DbFit is available for download from SourceForge (http://sourceforge. net/project/ showfiles. php?group_).DbFit is a free extension library for FIT/FitNesse testing framework. It allows developers to manipulate database objects in a relational style, making it much easier to manage and test database objects than with xUnit-style tests. DbFit supports .NET and Java integration tests, and Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL database engines.Release 0.92 (2007-11-26) brings:- Better error handling, DbFit now prints out missing column/parameter names and warns if table/procedure could not be found new Inspect fixture to help with regression tests: DatabaseTest has three methods to automate it: InspectQuery, InspectProcedure and InspectTable. These methods will quickly print out entire query results, structure of a procedure or a table/view in a form that can be easily converted to a regression test, or used as a template forExecuteProcedure, Insert or Update tables. support...
Doing regression testing in India, on an agile project

Regression Testing
2007-11-01 03:42:00
Definition - Regression testing is the re-running of Test cases that a program has previously executed correctly, in order to detect failures spawned by changes or corrections made during software development and maintenance. These failures arise from incomplete or incorrect changes and are often witnessed as (unexpected) side effects in apparently unrelated application areas. It is common in the IT industry, that one in six (or seventeen percent*) of correction attempts are themselves defective. This high rate of introduced defects is exaggerated when developers maintain a large number of poorly documented, integrated systems where they of ten have little or no experience of these systems. Regression testing may then be used to great effect at detecting subtle side effects and unconsidered inter-relationships within these environments, thus reducing risk. In regression testing standard actions in a test procedure are carried out and the expected responses are checked for correctness...

Linear Regression and Matrices
2007-10-19 04:59:00
So I know a good amount of math, more than the average guy on the street, but I love to learn new things. This week I passed out copies to the book Supercrunchers to my two kids in math club, and to get the ball started we went over how linear regression is calculated. I had no idea, and I found the following link that does a really great job, but it does almost the whole thing with matrices.

NFL Week 6 Regression Model Picks
2007-10-14 22:35:00
I am a bit late with these picks, Sundays are hard to wake up early and crunch numbers. It is currently 12:30pm and some games have started, so some of these picks are already too late to use. I have not looked at the scores although my picks these picks are automatic and consider only stats from the past few years up to last week. In the previous post I talked about a regression model that estimates the point spread, compares it to the Vegas line, and makes a pick accordingly. I took the difference between the automatic pick and the Vegas line and noticed that depending on this difference, the model behaves in an opportunistic way. Sometimes it is lagging behind (weighing previous years data too heavily) and doing the opposite is opportunistic, other times it is predicting well (especially in favor of underestimated visiting teams) and other times (i.e. when the difference between Vegas line and prediction are close) it predicts correctly close to 50% of the time not allowing for...
Estimating Non-Linear Functions with OLS Regression
2007-10-10 16:32:00
Inempiricalresearch,you̵-7;ll often come across variables that are notrelated in a linear way. There are methods to estimate non-linear functions, but many involve things far more complicated than OLS regression. Luckily we have a method of estimating non-linear functions using OLS! A prime example of a non-linear function in economics is the Cobb-Douglas production function (CDPF). Below ...
Political and economic regression

"When bullets start flying, politics and all that shit goes out of the window."- Black Hawk DownThe situation in Myanmar is certainly getting worrying by the day, what with protests and the government crackdowns turning violent. The footages on TV are beginning to look like Saigon in the 1960s...monks taking to the streets amongst crowds of protesters, the only difference is that we haven't seen monks self-torching themselves in protest yet (maybe that's not the "in" thing any more). It would be easy to say the affairs of another country should be best settled by the very people who govern the country, but that would be myopic, if not destructive, in a world that is getting increasingly interconnected and interdependent on the day.Critics would say the real motivations behind world leaders pressurising the junta in Myanmar would be economic and capitalist in nature: companies are starting to move into Yangon and the larger Indo-China region, and obviously there is an economic stake...

What is the minimum time frame needed for regression testing before go-live
2007-05-24 06:34:00
Seriously. We (as in test/quality/ whatever we are called where you work) do not define timelines. We do tell "The Business" what we can do with the time allocated, how much time we think we need to do the job properly, and what the risks of cutting corners are. But whether to accept that level of risk is a business decision and not a quality one. When asked to do testing such as you are it is imperative that you get actual sign off from your superiors and preferably from the customer (whoever that is in your environment) that the level of risk involved is acceptable and this means you need to give them a proper assessment of that risk. It does not mean presenting a doom and gloom scenario that everything will fail because it has not been "fully" tested (of course nothing is ever fully tested), it means honestly and clearly assessing how risky each change is to introduce defects in other areas of the code, what is the worst that could happen, what is likely to happen, and how likel...

2007-04-30 06:18:00
I suppose that it’s the mark of a true nerd that I actually have a couple of “favorite” statistical techniques. (Nerd pride!) My training is as a psychologist and I spend a lot of my time at my “real” job studying human behavior, so a lot of the questions that I ask when I am playing around with my Retrosheet files go something like “Why did he do that?” Why didthe third base coachsend the runner there? Why did the voters go for Colon over Santanain 2005? Baseball is full of a thousand little decisions, made on the field and off. Players don’t always make the same decision each time, but there do seem to be some pretty stable patterns that develop over time. The nature of baseball, though, is such that the decisions can usually be broken down into a simple form: yes or no? Should I or shouldn’t I? Either I swing or I don’t. (I may check my swing, but the umpire will determine yes or no whether it counts as a sw...

How important is regression testing?
2007-03-04 09:26:00
In a single sentence, Regression testing is the retesting of a previously tested program following modification to ensure that faults have not been introduced or uncovered as a result of the changes made. Regression testing helps to ensure that changes made to the software code do not break other previously working parts of the software. It is important to do regression testing frequently,
Christmas, Dawn and Regression

I wake up paralyzed, eyes open but unable to move and, worse- unable to scream.I should be used to this. I am. The terror refreshes itself each time.Googling "sleep paralysis," I came upon this classic depiction of it:The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli (1781)Can you blame me for not wanting to sleep?---Christmas always gives me frostbite.I have not yet forgiven Santa Clause for being plastered all over the place and still not existing. My first heartbreak was providing coffee and biscuits (for Santa) and grass (for his reindeer) under the Christmas tree and finding the grass thrown back to the garden in the morning (because they "ate" it) as if I wouldn't notice. On the other hand, everyone is giving birth, I swear!Ana is due anytime this week for baby Anika.Javi's wife is also expecting Matteo in a few weeks.Add to that the ones below three: Miguel, Mauro, Diego and Bianca.Baby Boom.I just can't imagine myself engulfing a human being like some sort of phagocytotic vesicle, which will ...
Road to Regression?
2006-12-03 04:11:09
Education is on the agenda of politicians all over the world because it is an emotive issue. It is certainly one of John Howard's favourite topics. We are easy targets to be stirred because all of us have our own view on whether education should be free and accessible; should it be compulsory up to a certain age; and is the standard of education slipping. And all these questions are just the tip of an iceberg. In recent years, many governments deplore the current state of education and some have become concerned how their country's education stack up against others in international assessments. It seems the question on many politicians' lips, across nations, is that why are we churning out more university graduates than ever but people in general, seem to be less and less "educated"?I am in no position to even attempt this question. However, I have received a photo taken at a recent exhibition in Hong Kong. It is a photo of an exhibit ? an exam paper of the compulsory primary scho...

What is Re- test ? What is Regression Testing ?
2006-09-09 07:53:00
Re- test - Retesting means we testing only the certain part of an application again and not considering how it will effect in the other part or in the whole application. Regression Testing - Testing the application after a change in a module or part of the application for testing that is the code change will affect rest of the application.
