Happy New Year everyone!This year is slated to be a year of growth for me, I've decided. Involved in this growth is an expansion of my website, where I now offer Usui Reiki attunements for those interested in learning the "original" form of Reiki healing. I also changed the Energy Healing Mentoring Program into the more streamlined Intuitive Development Coaching, which is greatly simplified into individual sessions.I've also started a BlogTalkRadio show called Reiki Talk, which had its first broadcast last night. Today is my 40th birthday! It's also the second anniversary of the day I began this blog. It is a good day for some reflection on how things have changed in the past year or two, and I'm filled with gratitude for so many things in my life.Here is where I was one year ago today.Here is my first post, two years ago today.Since last year, I've begun teaching Reiki locally in two different wellness centers here in the Cleveland area, in addition to launching my website, and connecting with many new friends and students on Twitter and Facebook. I was interviewed about Reiki on four different radio shows. I've started writing about Reiki for OwningPink.com and PaganPages.org. I've had the blessing of teaching at least 150 more students in the past year as well. Reiki teaching is becoming a more central focus in my life, and it feels really right. I've been teaching local Reiki classes for the first time this month, and tonight my Kundalini Reiki class of eight wonderful students will receive their final attunement. I'm also teaching Reiki for Parents, and it's going very well.I was nervous at the start, because all of my Reiki teaching, with the exception of one-on-one classes, has been remotely via my website. There have been over 200 students in the past year and a half, and that's a lot! I am confident and absolutely adore teaching Reiki. But facing a class full of people in a room was somehow a little daunting to me. It's funny too, because I'm a teacher, and have been teaching kids and teens various subjects for over 13 years. But a room full of adults? That felt different!I took a leap. I trusted that all would be well, and that my teaching ability and passion for Reiki would support me in helping everyone understand and feel the energy. A few months back, I was approached by a woman who I had met on Twitter, Debbie Wilker. She had been suddenly diagnosed with cancer and wanted to learn Reiki. I chatted with her about it, and although she didn't have the money to pay for attunements, I attuned her to Kundalini Reiki through master level. I also put her in touch with my friend Bridget, who had healed her own cancer with energy healing and diet, and works with people diagnosed with cancer. Debbie had high hopes for beating this disease and was determined to stay positive and do all she could. Debbie had a rare and aggressive form of cancer. How to Surrender

I've noticed lately that many people are blogging and tweeting about surrender. What is surrender, though? Is it giving up? Is it shrugging your shoulders and admitting that we have no control over the events which will come at us moment by moment? Is it having faith? All of these options sound difficult from where I'm standing, and some of them don't sound like a good way to live.Let's talk about the first thing I mentioned - giving up. That couldn't be a good thing. It implies a feeling of hopelessness - like there's nothing I can do so why try? If one who is without a job gives up, there is no job search, there is just wallowing in misery. I don't think this is the way to go.Then there's the "shrugging one's shoulders and admitting one isn't in control" method. Saying "this is out of my hands" is difficult for one who likes to make things happen with action. But there comes a time when one has done all she can and the rest is waiting. There is always, it seems, a balance to be mindfully walked. Balance between action and patience, balance between faith and action, balance between surrender and preparing. They are all related, and all a part of my life lately. The tough part is deciding how much of each to put into the mix for the right amount. I think the right amount is achieved when one feels at peace, knowing that one has done what is necessary and then is able to surrender the outcome to the Powers That Be, the Universe, God, Spirit, Source, whatever one chooses to name the Divine power in his or her life.Finding that balance can feel like walking a tightrope. I truly think that the feeling of being at peace is the answer to whether one has accomplished it. I struggle often to get to that, as I think many do. Over the last couple of months I have become interested in various types of energy healing, such as Reiki, Quantum Touch, MEL and Chakra Balancing. As with all my ‘little experiments’ I’ll be trying out these one by one. Hello! I'm back from 36 hours at Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center with 15 wonderful and spiritual Reiki people. We shared Reiki treatments with each other - (I realized I haven't had a full hands-on Reiki treatment since February at my Reiki Master class!) - talked a lot about how we came to Reiki, reiki-ed trees, meditated, participated in the global water blessing this morning, and a most wonderful treat is that the leader of our retreat, Carol Spears, played therapeutic harp for us. She even brought some crystal bowls which she incorporated into the music beautifully. It was very uplifiting. (Click on Carol's name for her website with her harp music, crystal bowls, and more.) Mom/Daughter Reiki and Being Starstruck

Yesterday, my almost-9 year-old daughter Rayna came with me to give volunteer Reiki healing at the Reiki center at Ursuline College. Rayna is Reiki level 2, and we channeled Reiki healing together to a person who came in to receive Reiki. It was a strong Reiki experience for our recipient, and all were touched by the presence of a child giving healing energy with her mom. It was good for all of us. Rayna said she wants to do it again next week. And....some exciting news is that I emailed Warren Grossman, the author of a book that's deeply impressed me lately, To Be Healed by the Earth. He lives here in the Cleveland area. I asked him if he would be willing to come and speak to my teen students in the Seeking Connections course I'm teaching. He said yes!!! We set a date for Nov. 13, and he asked me to invite other classes and staff to come too. It's quite perfect for my class, because not only is his story inspiring, but he's also Jewish, and I'm teaching this as a Jewish course...
The Newest Version of Kundalini Reiki!!

Dear friends,I have been in touch with Ole Gabrielson, the founder of Kundalini Reiki himself. (Yes, I do feel honored to have been emailing with him - he's amazing.) He has a new 2008 version of Kundalini Reiki that reduces the number of attunements from 9 to only 3, and also the energy is said to be of a stronger and finer frequency than before. I asked him what I would need to do to "upgrade" to the newest version. He said the third attunement would be all I would need. I now have five people that I am attuning to Kundalini Reiki, and it's quite a process! Not because the attunments are difficult; on the contrary, they usually take me about 5-7 minutes to intend and send. It's that a complete Kundalini Reiki attunement has 9 attunements, scheduled weekly after the first two, and so I have to keep track of who gets attunements sent when! With five people, I needed to make a Kundalini Reiki Attunement calendar to keep track of everyone's scheduled times. I have successfully sent attunements at a different time, intending for the attunement to be received at a later time, which I specify while setting my intention. So far, I've only post-dated the attunment time for the same day. But I'm sure that I may be experimenting with post-dating an attunement for a day or two ahead. I Attuned My Grandma to Reiki!

My grandma is 87 years old, though she's really one of those "87 years-young" people. She drives a red sports car, and takes courses, volunteers daily at a Senior Center near her house - walks there - bakes cookies, makes dolls and beaded necklaces, and comes for dinner every Friday night. She's great. I've given her Reiki a few times, and she's liked it and said it helped her. She has recently developed an infection in one leg, and she is taking antibiotics for it. I gave her Reiki a few times, which did help. Yesterday she came over and I attuned her to Reiki and taught her how to call in the energy, and some hand positions for giving herself Reiki treatments. I told her to practice and the sensations would get stronger.I have to admit that my attunement was a little awkward because I had to refer to my manual several times; it's been a while since I've done any. I have been curious about other "flavors" of Reiki for some time, and decided to get attuned to Kundalini Reiki. I received the attunements on a weekly basis for the first three levels. I had the Master level attunement this morning. Over the next six weeks, there will be six "booster" attunements to follow.Some interesting features of Kundalini Reiki are:There are no symbols.There are no hand positions. The hands-on treatment involves placing hands on the shoulders of the recipient and letting the energy flow where it is needed. My Reiki Master is the first person who introduced me to Reiki. Actually, it wasn't even that long ago - less than two years. Today was my husband's graduation from his MBA program. Congratulations, Evan!I went to the graduation ceremony, and grabbed my camera on the way out the door. When I got there, I got seated and took out my camera. I turned it on. It turned itself off. My batteries were dead. I put in my spare pair of batteries. They were dead too. The camera wouldn't even turn on. Bummer. They were rechargable batteries, so I guess I had charged them too long ago for them to have held the charge.I figured I could use my cell phone camera to take his picture, but not really the same. Thanks to my blog, people from places all over the world contact me asking for distance Reiki. Sometimes it's out of curiosity, sometimes out of need, and I always try to oblige.
