Public Relations Company
2012-01-03 12:20:00
There are a number of pieces to the puzzle when it comes to gaining exposure and a good reputation both online and offline. Search engine optimization is used to promote exposure on the internet. PR firms are often hired to maintain and promote the credibility of a company. Many online businesses are involved with hiring SEO firms to do the search engine optimization work that a business website need. However, they might neglect the importance of outsourcing to a public relations company. A public relations company is used to help establish public awareness of a business. Furthermore, a public relations company performs all the necessary techniques that are involved with their client’s image. A poor business image online creates an environment that will cause sales to drop off. In other words, poorly handled business relationships can cause the loss of customers. To avoid losing customers or even the ability to attract new ones, online businesses hire a public relations compa...
Will Offshore Oil Lubricate US?Cuba Relations?
2011-10-31 17:20:00
By Marin Katusa, Casey Energy Opportunities One of Spain’s largest oil companies, Repsol, is gearing up to spud a deep, offshore well in Cuban waters, just 60 miles from the Florida Keys. A huge rig is still en route to the site from Singapore, and as it draws closer to its destination the zealous opposition from Floridian politicians who rely on the Cuban expatriate vote gets louder. They argue that the well should not be allowed to proceed because it violates the embargo and on a deeper level, that any oil found would prop up the Cuban regime. The first claim is incorrect – it does not violate the embargo as there are no American companies involved; but the . . . → Read More: Will Offshore Oil Lubricate US?Cuba Relations?
(4/2011) THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OF POLITICAL AND INTERNATIONAL CHAOS
2011-04-06 19:46:00
Joseph Honick--   Even as a child, if my mother  caught me reading comic books when it was homework time, she would clearly ‘redirect’ my actions and get back to where I was supposed to be. One of the major and boggling realities right now is the almost juvenile political kickboxing among all the elements more interested in mutually assured destruction than the welfare of the nation and the world so much embroiled in terrible conflict and upheaval.  Very much a part of all this inexcusable foolishness is some small army of public relations operatives helping the various sides to ‘position’ themselves for elections more than a year away. Worst of all, the irresponsibility cuts across all party lines, with each laying claim to what is right and necessary, whether in the area of domestic economic problems, international wars or political contention. These realities must be causing either intensive joy among our weak friends and genu...

Image by euphrosene via Flickr Self-awareness is a gift not many seem to be blessed with. As with Tony Blair, it seems to come with either a large propensity to justify, or simply an inability to recognise, bad behaviour. US China Economic Relations
2009-09-16 09:07:00
The relationship between China and the US reminds you of a couple permanently squabbling with each other - but no matter how much they find fault with their partner, they know they couldn't live without each other.China and US is a classic love hate relationship. It is an intriguing example of how economic ties can bind in a way that political ideology never could.Statistics for US China Economic Relations. The US has a large trade deficit with China. In 2008, it stood at $268 billion. (US trade deficit stats)For every $1 China spends on US goods, US citizens spend $4.46 in China.Exports to the United States account for 6 percent of China’s entire economic output.US exports to China account for 0.5% of US GDP. In a trade war, there would be one clear loser. (China US trade at NY Times)Because of this large trade surplus China has substantial foreign currency reserves. With these foreign currency reserves, China has accumulated $2 trillion in foreign reserves, mostly in Treasury bo...

The King Of Diplomacy On China-US Relations.
2009-08-19 20:56:00
I have always loved the television commercials where some cheesy guy wearing a crown (presumably the owner of the appliance store or whatever else it is that is being advertised) screams out the discounts you can expect to get by shopping at his store. If my memory serves me right, I've been witness to the King of Cars, the King of Discounts, and the Appliance King. John Grisham wrote a book called the King of Torts and who can forget Rupert Pupkin as the King of Comedy? Like him or not, Henry Kissinger is the King of Diplomacy and he has a Washington Post op-ed out today, entitled, "Rebalancing Relations With China" (h/t China Hearsay, who also thinks highly of the op-ed) setting out how the United States should be dealing with China. And again, like him or not, the guy does know whereof he speaks and this is his own summary of what should be done: While the center of gravity of international affairs shifts to Asia, and America finds a new role distinct from hegemony yet com...
Public Relations 101: Know the basics
2009-08-07 21:31:00
Public relations* is often associated with strumpetting (sorry couldn’t completely resist the linkbait opportunity) and can have a negative connotation. There are several reasons I suppose for PR’s own poor image, including: The low cost of barrier for the profession. Anyone can set up shop with a low price laptop. Hey, you can write, right? Yes, but not everyone can really write. The fact that PR professionals are paid to communicate with others and the inherent potential for conflict of interest. While I don’t fully agree with Wikipedia’s COI policies, I can understand some of the rationale behind them. So, there’s a perception — born in reality by the crappy work of a few — that we’re not always the most trustworthy As part of the pay for services, PR pros are tempted to focus on short-term results at the risk of most everything else — like long-term relationships and burning bridges, and the potential harm on their reputatio...
U.S. - China Relations. Normalization, Not Democratization.
2009-08-03 05:39:00
I wrote this post back in September, 2008, but forgot to put it up. I rediscovered it today and though it is definitely dated (it was written by Kissinger with an eye towards the US Presidential elections) the core of it still very much holds true and still merits a post, I think. I love it when someone can take my meandering, somewhat inchoate thoughts on a subject and concisely sum them up with a pithy line. Henry Kissinger did that for me today on what the role of the United States should be with respect to democratization in China. Kissinger did that in the context of a excellent New York Times article, entitled, "Foreign Policy Factions Unsure Who Will Prevail,." The article discusses how the United States does not have unlimited international power so it must ration that power wisely. Then comes Kissinger's money quote -- and like him or not, this is a guy who knows foreign policy: "Our major effort with the Soviets,†he [Kissinger] said, recalling his time as Pr...
Gender Relations in Iran
2009-07-29 12:18:00
Often, it's hard for people in the United States to comprehend gender relations in comparatively socially conservative countries like the Islamic Republic. In turn, this leads to an overall confusing situation in which faulty accusations are made and realities are disregarded in place of elitist criticism and crucial misunderstandings. As simple as the following statement may seem, it's fundamental to understanding Iranian social structure: Iran and the United States are different. They have different histories, religious beliefs, cultures, and social structures. So trying to judge the two very different countries by the same standard is just wrong. What Iranians want is popular sovereignty and the right to live their lives without being told by the West that they are inferior and medieval...
5 Ways Startups Can Use Social Media to Build its Public Relations
2009-07-17 19:51:00
I am not a public relations expert, and in reality I could do with a lot of lessons myself, so we are in this together. Considering how important public relations are for any business (ask the behemoths and you will know why), I am little appalled that this is a topic we cover very rarely on WATBlog (scope for improvement?). Also, it has been a while since I spoke something about entrepreneurship here, so in true social style I mashed up the two fields and here you have some social media tips for startups to build their public relations.I think an overdue follow up after to social media for public relations folks which was then very well received. However, before we get into the steps one needs to understand the premise of the post. You see there are hundreds of of startups that rise and fall at a not so alarming yet significant rate. Public relations is a very critical aspect both in the rise as well as fall of these startups. The problem is that traditional PR for startups and oth...

Media Relations Commandment: Know thy audience
2009-06-24 18:09:00
I’m seriously thinking of doing a series of blog posts about “Media Relations Commandments.” (Or, maybe Public Relations Commandments for the majority who primarily think of trying to generate editorial-type exposure when they think PR. But, that’s another post.) I — like a bunch of other PR bloggers — received a piss-poor pitch from a large PR agency. The image is the email header and pitch I received. Clearly, by sending yourself the email, you BCC’d the list. With so many tools available to at least personalize emails (I’ve used GroupMail in the past), that’s a entry level or small-time budget effort. And, there’s no tie in the pitch that the topic has anything to do with what I blog or tweet about. That’s a lazy effort. If you take 20 minutes to scan my blog, you’ll be able to tell that my blog is primarily opinion. My opinion. For the most part, posts are tips, ideas and links to other items of interest. I ...
Demystify the DSR - Three Golden Rules of Customer Relations on eBay
2009-06-17 13:34:00
Once upon a time in an internet not far away eBay was a happy land where sellers and buyers traded items and ratings happily and sellers had just as much ability to let the world know about a bad buyer as buyers had to flag a poor seller. Unfortunately those days have been and gone. Giving feedback is now a one-way street for buyers only and the feedback that customers give accounts for more than ever. The reputation of sellers don't only depend on it but the amount in fees they pay as well, thanks to the new DSR system. In that sense it doesn't only make good business sense to be a good seller on eBay it is a matter of life and death.Guide' Your Customers Through The Sales ProcessWhile every Tom Dick and Harry can sell low volumes sporadically on eBay it takes someone special to sell large volumes consistently and increase their customer base. To do that a seller needs to be ready to 'guide' the customer through the sales process. A process that starts as soon as the seller sta...

Carrie Prejean?s Public Relations Victory

In the court of public opinion, advocates of traditional marriage scored a huge victory over advocates of gay marriage last week, perhaps their biggest public relations victory since the adolescent temper tantrums following the passage last fall of California’s Proposition 8. Media relations is media relations … right?
2008-11-21 05:46:00
I’m fascinated by human nature, how and why people interact, and the processes of how successful results come to be. If you’ve done any social media outreach — and been successful — then I assume you’ve also been involved in traditional, offline media relations — and been successful. While there are many similarities, I’ve found that there are enough differences in the process of suggesting stories to media contacts — whether offline or online. The similarities should go without saying, like: Know the media outlet and person(s) you want to contact. Know what topics are covered, who the audience is, how the people like to receive story suggestions/ideas, etc. Know that — no matter if you’re talking to your client or employer about “hits” or “getting placements” — you are still dealing with people. While you have some level of influence — you do not have anywhere near the final say as to i...

Media relations really is that simple — but not easy
2008-10-17 05:52:00
(UPDATED Oct. 17, 2008, approx. 8 a.m.: See additional Point to Ponder at the end.) Media relations, and maybe even all of marketing communication really is simple. Not easy mind you, but simple. Maybe because it’s so simple is why so many so-called professionals screw it up. Let’s look at one of the simple rules of media relations: It’s really all about connecting legit news and feature opportunities (i.e., having news judgment) with the right media. Let me give an example. My oldest son is in his second year of his school’s FIRST LEGO League robotics team. And, this year, my wife is his team’s coach. (I’m not going to explain what FLL is; just check the link and come back.) So, as part of the team’s research and learning efforts, I helped my wife contact a local popular weather man and ask him to talk to the school’s two teams about climate change. That’d be a good media opportunity, I thought. So, with my experience in hand, I...

China US Relations. Fair And Balanced.
2008-08-04 07:44:00
Howard French of the New York Times just came out with an exceedingly thoughtful and balanced piece on the progression of rights in China, entitled, "Despite Flaws, Rights in China Have Expanded." The content of the article tracks the title and it is well worth reading. Plus, I completely agree with it. China still obviously has a ways to go, but I do not think it fair or realistic to expect China to instantly be where the United States and Denmark and Canada are today. I say this not because I believe Asia is different or China is different, but because I believe Asia and China are the same. Because China is the same, it will not become "free" overnight, as that virtually never happens (I often cite post-Franco Spain as a rare exception). As I have said from this blog's very inception, I see it following in the path of South Korea and Japan, both of which have made amazing economic and political strides over the last 50 years, but not instantly. China does not deserve a fr...

So, I guess the first thing that everybody tells you and I tell you is 80% of the leads are coming up form the net. That may be true, may not be true, depending on how effectively you use internet, how effectively your organization uses it, but the reality of it is that most people who are looking, do actually go to the internet to research. So, why do they do that? They do that, because the net has taught people that I do not have to wait. If I want to ask a question I want an answer now. It is not about the generation Y or Z or whatever they call these days, it is about everybody now. Everybody tells you "hey, ask...

Role of Trust in Relations
2008-05-23 20:09:00
Trust can play the role of cement in any relation like as cement help in making any building strong similarly trust can make any relationship of this world strong. In the same way, lack of trust can make any relation weak. Therefore, it is very important for all of us to develop arrangement of trust in our relations. Mostly in a relation equal work from all the concerned people is required to develop a trust and good trust level can never be achieved by the alone efforts. The biggest problem is developing a good trust level is that it take many years to develop a good trust but some actions can break it in few days. Therefore, we all are required to remain extra cautious with maintaining trust in our relationships. If developed to its fullest trust can play lot of positive role in any relation and help both the people concerned by making their lives richer and rewarding. A good level of trust in any relation provides a great opportunity in front of people to enjoy their relation.More...

Blogger Relations At Third Tuesday

Darren Barefoot is a busy man these days, making the best of his return to Vancouver with numerous presentations sharing his and Capulet’s social media experiences. Similar to last week’s HTCE event (but not quite the same), the presentation took client ThoughtFarmer as a case study: Darren explained their approach to generating blogger buzz for that campaign.
