All religions are not equal
2008-09-19 16:18:00 Christian Institute says,'Sadiq Khan MP wants new laws to force public bodies to promote equality between different religions, so that Muslims won?t be treated as ?second-class citizens?.However, there is concern that such laws may give public bodies an excuse to withdraw from any involvement with religion ? particularly the Christian faith. For example, in the news today, a college in Yorkshire has stopped using the words ?Christmas? and ?Easter? to avoid offending minority faiths. The college says it has taken the steps to comply with Ofsted?s equality rules. But it has been criticised for over-interpreting the guidelines. This scenario ? of public bodies over-interpreting equality duties ? is what some Christian groups fear. The Government has announced that it is minded to place a duty on public bodies to promote equality across various strands including sexual orientation and religion. However, it has also said that it will pay particular attention to how an equality duty may work ...

Bahamian Religions
2008-05-22 06:44:00 Owning your religion: By Nadine Thomas-Brown, Guardian Lifestyles Reporter - Nassau, Bahamas: If Bahamian religion could be seen as a fabric it would probably be Androsia cotton with little if any room for Gabardine or Kente Cloth. Usually when one thinks of religion in The Bahamas, Christianity with its variant denominations is the only one that comes to mind. However several faiths call The Bahamas home. Among them, Buddhists, Muslims and Rastafarians. Though many people do not wear their religion on their sleeves, some faiths have no choice due to their doctrines, but to sport some tangible proof as evidenced by a Muslim's clothing and a Rastafarian's dreadlocks. Unfortunately these characteristics of their religion label them and at times make them outcasts in their own country. James Rolle, 35, (name changed) is one in what may be a growing number of practicing Buddhists. However it is difficult to ascertain the exact numbers that practice the religion here in the coun...
Vedas
2008-05-19 14:28:00 Vedas are considered to be the main source of all learning and knowledge in the world. Vedas are not written by any human being, so is Hindu Dharma. Both of them are not created by any individual. The Vedas are articulated by the GOD. Vedas are the synonyms of the learning, science and knowledge. One must understand the Vedangs before studying the Vedas. And if any one goes through the Vedas without studying Vedang, he would commit the blunder and get nothing. He would jump in the web of ignorance and baffled. Vedang are six in number. They are as follows: - Shiksha (Education) Kalp (The procedure for performing religious rituals) Nirukat (Articulation of words, explanation and analysis) Vayakaran (Grammar) Chhand ( Verses) The Joyotish (Astrology) Astrology is the study of planets, zodiac and constellation in galaxy and how they affect the human-beings on the earth. Young Muslim Makes Video to Show All Religions Can be "Evil"
2008-04-22 18:45:00 Remember the anti-Islam video "Fitna" put out by a Dutch politician last month? Well a young Saudi businessman has decided to give Christianity the same treatment. Raed al-Saeed's increasingly popular video "Schism," mashes images of aggressive behavior by Christians with aggressive Bible-verses. Unlike the Dutch video of violence by Muslims played to verses of the Koran, the Biblical version is not motivated by a desire to stop the spread of a religion. Instead, al-Saeed wanted to show that any religion, including Christianity, can easily be cast in an "evil" light. He told NPR that "It's not the right way to judge a religion by a video made by a guy who hated that religion." To find out what images made the Christian version, read more. Images of western soldiers in Iraq beating up alleged insurgents, a CNN broadcast of 2003's "Shock and Awe" bombing of Baghdad, terrorist attacks in Northern Ireland, fill the...

Blending Religions...
2008-04-03 16:21:00 When I was younger I didn't give much thought to the religions of the world. I was born on a Tuesday and Baptized that Sunday. I'm happy and content in my faith and as it's a strong religion that goes back to Jesus himself, I've never felt the need to 'change' faiths, however, as an adult I've always found it interesting to learn about other faiths and religious beliefs. Back when the
STRESS RELEASE-DOOR TO JOY
2008-03-27 12:20:00 Why is it that while some hardly encounter any resistance or hurdle, certain others seem to be pursued by problems and unfavourable developments in all they take up? Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s explanation in this regard is strikingly original and noteworthy. He notes that the crux of all effective living lies in the exhortation of the Bhagawad Gita, to base oneself in clarity and inner power (yoga) and thereafter perform all actions (yogastah kuru karmani). This is the state, where the aspirant translates into action the three definitions of yoga, as they figure in the Bhagawad Gita-being equanimous (samatvam), being skilful in every action karmasu kaushalam) and being dissociated from all pain (dukha samyoga viyogah). This also is the process of being in harmony and fulfilled with all aspects within (atmaratih), whereby one also is in harmony with all aspects without too, and the nature all around. Naturally so, he obtains support from all over in the form of co...

People of all religions can agree on Good Friday
2008-03-21 17:06:00 We can all agree that something like this happened. Even Christopher Hitchens can agree that on a Friday just before Passover, approximately 1975 years ago, the Roman authorities crucified a person named Jesus Christ who claimed to be the son of God and whom some believed. It's what happened on Sunday that people disagree about. "If Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your trust in God is useless" (1 Cor. 15:14)Powered by b2evolution.

FAITH FORWARD
2008-03-04 18:29:00 For decades now, moderate Islamists have spared no effort to convince the world that Islam and violence are incompatible. But so far, they have been preaching to the converted. After 9/11, Islam has come to be viewed with greater hostility than ever before, in great measure helped by acts of terrorism across the world in the name of the great religion. So it has come as a breath of much-needed fresh air that the influential Darul Uloom seminary in Deoband, long known for its hard line stand, has come out in no uncertain terms against the outrages being committed in the name of Islam. Its rector Maulana Marghoobur Rahman has said, “Killing of innocents is not compatible with Islam. It is anti-Islamic.” This is the first time that a religious institution has so strongly condemned violence in the name of Islam. Hopefully, the seminary’s statements will reverse the trend of equating Islam with the misguided actions of fanatics. Coming as it does from scholars a...

DIVINE GUIDANCE
2008-02-06 16:02:00 The recent controversy involving the Sikh clergy puts the community in the throes of yet another crisis. With the enactment of the Gurdwara Act, in 1925, the management of the historical Sikh shrines was placed in the hands of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). In order to bring about uniformity in the Sikh way of life, the SGPC approved the Rehat Maryada (guide) in 1945. The Maryada stated that the four seats of religious authority were the Akal Takht in Amritsar, Patna Sahib in Patna (Bihar), Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur and Hazur Sahib in Nanded (Maharashtra). Damdama Sahib near Bathinda was also given the recognition of a Takht in 1962. The Maryada also stated that all decisions regarding the fundamental principles of the faith and affecting the whole community called the Gurmattas (decisions on religious of re-issues) would be binding upon all Sikhs. It of also held that appeals against all decisions could be made to the Akal Takht. But public spat and squabblin...

RELIGIONS IN INDIA
2007-12-27 15:18:00 RELIGIONS IN INDIA The land of spirituality and philosophy, India is the birthplace of some religions, which even exist today in the world. Hinduism is the most dominant religion in India today. About 80% of Indians are Hindus. Hinduism is a colorful religion with a vast gallery of Gods and Goddesses. Hinduism is one of the ancient religions in the world. It is supposed to have developed about 5000 years ago. Later on in ancient period other religions developed in India. Buddhism and Jainism developed around 500 BC in India. Today only about 0.5% of Indians are Jains and about 0.7% are Buddhist. In ancient times Jainism and specially Buddhism were very popular in India. Indians who accepted Buddhist philosophy spread it not only within the Indian sub-continent but also to kingdoms east and south of India. These three ancient religions, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, are seen as the molders of the India philosophy. In ‘modern’ period new religions were...

All Religions Teach men to be Righteous then Why Follow Islam ?
2007-12-02 20:29:00 QuestionAll religions basically teach followers to do good deeds. Why should a person only follow Islam? Can he not follow any of the religions?Answer By Dr Zakir Naik :1. Major difference between Islam and most other religionsAll religions basically exhort mankind to be righteous and eschew evil. But Islam goes beyond that. It guides us towards practical ways of achieving righteousness and eliminating evil from our individual and collective lives. Islam takes into account human nature and the complexities of human society. Islam is guidance from the Creator Himself. Therefore, Islam is also called the Deen-ul-Fitrah (the natural religion of Man).2. Example - Islam commands us to shun robbery and also prescribes method of eleminating robbery1. Islam prescribes method of eliminating robberyAll major religions teach that theft is an evil act. Islam teaches the same. So what is the difference between Islam and the other religions? The difference lies in the fact that Islam, besides tea...

Inspiration & Devotionals :: Don't All Religions Lead to God?
2007-09-14 10:00:00 Author: NewsFeeder Subject: Don't All Religions Lead to God?Posted: Fri Sep 14, 2007 4:00 am (GMT -4) Don't All Religions Lead to God? Amy Orr-Ewing We live in a context of spiritual longing. Many people are searching for that which will satisfy an inner craving for meaning and significance. The artist Damian Hirst recently said this: "Why do I feel so important when I'm not? Nothing is important and everything is important. I do not know why I am here but I am glad that I am. I'd rather be here than not. I am going to die and I want to live forever, I can't escape that fact, and I can't let go of that desire." But somehow this does not always translate into people finding Christ and starting to follow him. There is a dizzying array of options when it comes to religion, and the culture around us says that they are all equally valid. It seems absolutely bizarre to people that someone would say, "This one way is the truth and the only truth."...

Cooper points out that the chief omission from most contemporary studies of terrorism is an analysis of the "spiritual motivation" that is central to the actions of terrorists today. When spiritual elements are discussed in conventional literature, they are grouped under the opaque term religion. A more conceptually adequate approach is provided by Voegelin's political science and, in particular, by his Shellingian term pneumopathology-a disease of the spirit."Virtually alone within the flood of volumes on September 11 and its aftermath, this study brings us inside the terrorist mind-set. It does this by taking seriously what terrorists say as a guide to the motivations...
