Jenny Dell Set To Become NESN's Red Sox Reporter
2012-01-28 04:21:00
With Heidi Watney not having her contract renewed and heading back to her native California, NESN was left without an in-game reporter for their Boston Red Sox coverage. But know, it appears that NESN has filled the role. According to Chad Finn of the Boston Globe, NESN will name Jenny Dell to the position. Dell is or was currently working for ESPN. Finn states that ESPN has already removed Dell's video content from their site. I'd have to think that Red and Denton over at Surviving Grady are happy with this. Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs. Nat'l Teachers Union Chief Steals Reporter's Story for Speech Wit
2011-04-12 17:20:00
-By Warner Todd Huston I guess being the president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) means not having to do your own homework. Just ask AFT President Randi Weingarten. Weingarten was caught using verbatim and without attribution the work of a journalist from New York in a speech she gave a week ago. Usually this is called plagiarism and people get fired for doing it. Apparently, though, the president of a national teachers union... a teachers union... isn't held to the high standard that others (including students her union members supervise) are held to! When a journalist, politician or student uses someone else's words without attribution in a speech or a paper, it's called plagiarism - and it's often...

Media: Tribune Education Reporter Headed To NYT
2010-10-27 22:24:00
Word is out that the Tribune's Azam Ahmed is leaving the education beat and joining the New York Times as a business reporter.  Azam has only been covering CPS for a relatively short while (see the first post on the blog about him here), but he turned out some interesting stories during what by all accounts has been a difficult time in the newspaper business and in the Trib Towers in particular.    Click here for a Google news rundown of his byline over the past year and change, and tell us your favorite (or least favorite) AA pieces. No word on a replacement yet, though another reporter Noreen Ahmed-Ullah (no relation) has been covering CPS in recent days.Congrats, condolences....

Chicago TV Reporter Clueless On Gun Buyback Program
2010-05-08 20:29:00
-By Warner Todd Huston Some of my colleagues on the web are saying that Fox News Chicago reporter Tera Williams "revealed her bias" about the relative efficacy of Chicago's absurd gun buyback program. In yet another TV report on this meaningless program, reporter Williams was interviewing a Chicago resident on his thoughts about the whole thing. The resident told her, "it's a good way to start," to which Williams said "Something's better than nothing, right?" Well, no it's not, Ms Williams. This program has been a complete failure for making a dent in the violence and shootings in the City of Chicago. While other great cities of the nation have seen falling murder rates over the last decade, Chicago...

Carlos Hernandez Gomez - Super Tuesday Primary 2008When I was working for CLTV, I loved stopping into the Tribune Tower. Our station was located in Oak Brook, but being owned by Tribune company, we also occupied a small amount of real estate on the building's fourth floor. I loved being there for one reason in particular.Carlos.Every time I would walk in, it was some sort of shout across the newsroom about some crazy story I had on the air. He was so exuberant, so passionate, so noticeable. You knew when Carlos was in the room - the energy just changed. And he often wore a trademark hat or suit, something that made him stick out from the rest of the...

If you're wondering just who Erin Andrews is and have been under a rock, first consult my video above, then come back here. To recap, Erin Andrews is the ESPN reporter that was the focus - literally - of someone taking a peephole camcorder video of her in the nude, in a hotel room. The suspect has still not been identified or captured as of this writing, while some believe it may have been a co-worker at ESPN. With that action, Erin Andrews has emerged from unknown to known, and to "most infuential reporter" in two-weeks. Before we look closely at that, let's see who she passed up to gain the lofty title. The Beachwood Reporter: Conquering the 'Net One Niche at a Time
2009-07-01 07:45:00
I seldom take seriously local bloggers intent on taking over the online world. That is, with one exception: Steve Rhodes, Publisher and Editor of The Beachwood Reporter. Heading one of Chicago's top, homegrown news and content networks, every day Rhodes goes up against the best and brightest of the Windy City blogosphere (including Chitown Daily News, Chicagoist, Gapers Block, Huffington Post Chicago, and the folks right here at ChicagoNow) to tell the story of this town from a deliberately critical perspective. It's a curious kilter with major merit for those who believe the real commodity has never been the dryly objective news, but the subjective newspaper that has always surrounded it in opinionated juiciness....
Two strange stories, one dumbfounded reporter
2009-06-26 16:45:00
I had two strange experiences this week. Well, individually, they weren't that strange on their own. But they happened within about five minutes of each other, and that made them especially odd. I was down at Cabrini-Green, working on two stories. I needed to take some pictures. Taking pictures is something I always do gingerly. It's sort of like pointing - there's a reason your mom told you not to. It makes people uncomfortable. And yet, I'm a reporter. I gotta take pictures. It's part of my job. The new rowhousesSo, I'm down by the rowhouses, taking pictures of the new rehabbed ones. And this guy sees me and calls out to me, following me down the street. Eventually, he...

Iran: Reporter From US Arrested After Buying Wine
2009-03-01 23:24:00
FARGO, N.D. - A U.S. journalist has been arrested in Iran, and her father said Sunday she told him in a brief phone call she was detained after buying a bottle of wine.Roxana Saberi, 31, has not been heard from since her last call on Feb. 10, her father, Reza, told The Associated Press on Sunday."We haven't heard anything," he said. The family decided to go public, he said, "because we wanted to get some information."Officials in Iran have not publicly confirmed the arrest. A duty officer at the U.S. State Department said Sunday they were looking into an AP request for information on the case.Human rights groups have repeatedly criticized Iran for arresting journalists and suppressing freedom of speech. The government has arrested several Iranian-Americans in the past few years, citing alleged attempts to overthrow its Islamic regime. The most high-profile case came in 2007, when Iran arrested four Iranian-Americans, including the academic Haleh Esfandiari. The four were imprisoned...
Reporter Arrested by Sec. Service, Jumped Rope Line Seeking Obama Autograph

Iraqi Reporter Throws Shoes At Bush
2008-12-15 13:26:00
source: news.yahoo.comKABUL, Afghanistan ? President George W. Bush wrapped up a whirlwind trip to two war zones Monday that in many ways was a victory lap without a clear victory and left thousands protesting in Iraq streets. A signature event occurred when an Iraqi reporter hurled two shoes at Bush, declaring: "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."The president visited the Iraqi capital just 37 days before he hands the war off to his successor, Barack Obama, who has pledged to end it. The president wanted to highlight a drop in violence and to celebrate a recent U.S.-Iraq security agreement, which calls for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq by the end of 2011."The war is not over," Bush said, but "it is decisively on its way to being won.""The war is not over," Bush said, but "it is decisively on its way to being won."Bush then traveled to Afghanistan where he spoke to U.S. soldiers and Marines at a hangar on the tarmac at Bagram Air Base. The ra...
