Michael Steele Seeking Position As Head Of Republican Party
2008-11-11 23:51:00
Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday. The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday's Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post."There is no fight," the source said. "This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP."In a statement issued by the former House speaker, Gingrich said he was not interested in seeking the post of Republican Party chairman."A number of people have asked me to consider running for Republican National Committee chair. They have been very flattering, and I am very ho...

What the Republican Party must do now

The election results were good for the Republican Party.  Cleansing and catharsis foster deep thought about the future and provide the first steps toward renewal and health.  Whether you are Republican, Democrat, or independent, you must accept that the permanent destruction and defeat of one party is not a sustainable model for national vitality.  Even ...

The "School Vouchers" Bullshit
2008-10-16 04:26:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.Updated October 16:McCain's going on and on about school vouchers in the debate right now. It's a scam, a Republican scam. What's it all about? A lot of Republicans are rich. They send their kids to private schools. Even Republicans who aren't rich, still try to send their kids to private schools.Only rich Americans, or those who really dig deep into their pockets, can afford to send their kids to private schools. It's a luxury. Ordinary Americans living sensibly within their means just can't afford it. So these rich people want the state to pay for them to send their kids to private schools, instead of paying for it out of their own pocket! What a joke! The fact is that public schools in a lot of places in our country (perhaps not coincidentally, in areas with large Black and/or Hispanic schools) are not in very good shape. I taught for ...
Obama-Biden = Osama bin Laden?
2008-10-13 04:24:00
Obviously, the name of the Democratic ticket is Obama-Biden, though you hardly ever see it written that way, thank God. Why? Well, I was just reading a headline right now that said, Clintons Campaign For Obama-Biden in Pennsylvania. Ok, for a few seconds that freaked me out, until I had to reread it. This is what I read:Clintons Campaign For Osama bin Laden in Pennsylvaniainstead ofClintons Campaign For Obama-Biden in PennsylvaniaHear that, McPalin? Obama-Biden = Osama bin Laden. Rev up those 527's! Just juxtapose over and overObama-BidenandOsama bin LadenPut them together in sentences, stick them close to each other in phrases, do it in writing in speech, Hell, even try it subliminally. McCain's crashing and burning. What are you waiting for?Others are noticing.
The Republican Party: Real ?Progressivism? at Work
2008-09-03 17:28:00
The Democrat Party prides itself in being ?progressive?. This self-styled characterization is being used to replace the traditional label of ?liberal? because of the latter?s negative (and true) connotations of the ungodly, anti-American philosophies and practices of the Democrat Party. At last week?s Democrat National Convention in Denver, former Vice President Al Gore likened Democrat presidential candidate ...

It is no surprise that I am a conservative saying this. It’s sad actually. The first and primary reason that the Republican has lost my vote is because I am a conservative. Your Modern Republican Party
2008-04-15 00:00:00
Geoff Davis, Republican from Kentucky, compared Obama to a "snake oil salesman," who said recently that he participated, along with Obama, in a "highly classified, national security simulation": "I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said. "He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country." Yup...he really said "that boy." Incredible. Then there was this, from the Minority Leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, speaking of Hillary Clinton: "I hear she hasn't been this worried since a new Hooters opened" near her home with former President Bill Clinton, McConnell said, prompting laughs from the 400 Northern Kentucky Republicans. Ladies and Gentlemen: Your Modern-day Republican Party!

The Case of Abraham Lincoln: how the Republican Party was created from the
2008-03-14 22:21:00
by Carol White The Case of Abraham Lincoln: A Story of Adultery, Murder, and the Making of a Great President; by Julie M. Fenster Julie Fenster?s new book is not only a fascinating look at a side of Abraham Lincoln?his daily life as an influential Illinois lawyer in the years before he became president?but an illuminating study about how he and his abolitionist associates succeeded in fusing anti-slavery Democrats and Whigs and to create the Republican party. Lincoln?s role as a wartime president tends to overshadow the fact of his crucial involvement not only in exposing his arch rival Stephen Douglas, author of the infamous Kansas-Nebraska act that opened the western territories of the United States to slavery?but in the nitty-gritty, day-to-day politicking that preceded, and was crucial to the party?s victory at the polls in the 1860 presidential election. These days there is a lot of hand-wringing about how the internecine struggle in the present election campaign may fracture t...

Conservative Pundits Just Don?t Understand Conservatism
2008-03-07 09:50:00
Senator John McCain has an uphill battle to climb now that he has become the nominee of the Republican Party. Conservative Republicans are torn over the idea of having McCain as the head of their party. There are many conservatives that dislike John McCain so much that they have said they will vote for the Democratic nominee. What is it that Senator McCain has done to agitate conservatives so much? First of all there is immigration. McCain has pushed for immigration reform while in the Senate which included some forms of ?amnesty? and did not have enough border protection for conservatives. McCain worked hand and hand on this bill with Senator Ted Kennedy who is seen as one of the most liberal senators in Washington. Second of all, McCain opposes torture and the practice of waterboarding. Waterboarding is used to simulate drowning and is used to solicit information from suspects during interrogations. As a former prisoner of war, McCain opposes such abuses as ...

Libertarian Party Sends Its Condolences to the Republican Party
2008-02-11 21:48:00
With the rise of John McCain as the front runner, and the only other candidate in the race being Mike Huckabee, the Libertarian Party felt condolences were in order. So they sent a wreath of flowers to the RNC, expressing their sympathy on the apparent “death of small-government principles within” the party: The wreath was hand-delivered to the D.C. offices of the Republican National Committee. “We simply felt the need to express our heartfelt sympathy for the Republican Party as they undergo this tough time within their party,” says Libertarian Party National Media Coordinator Andrew Davis, who delivered the wreath. “Given that it has become readily apparent that Senator McCain will soon be the presidential nominee for the Republican Party,” reads a card that accompanied the wreath addressed to RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, “we, the staff of the Libertarian National Committee, send our condolences to you upon the death of small-government p...
An Open Letter To Luke Esser, Chairman of Washington's Republican Party
2008-02-10 18:30:00
Dear Mr. Esser:On the night of the Washington caucuses, I thought something was out of order when the counts were stopped, to be resumed the following morning. I have never seen anything like that in any of the states where I have contacts in the Republican organization. I thought it was lazy and that it begged for vote tampering. It was downright risky and irresponsible. When I heard the following morning that you had called the race for one of the candidates with only 87% of the vote counted (and a less than 200 vote difference between the first and second place candidates!) I was outraged and embarrassed. This is a humiliation to the Republican party and to the democratic process as a whole. It is a senseless and disgraceful public spectacle that has been created for the Republican party. As a proud unaffiliated voter, I respectfully demand that you finish the count so as to preserve the transparent process of voting before this situation further spirals out of control. You owe th...

Desperate Times Call for?Digging into Your Own Pockets
2008-02-07 08:38:00
Hillary Clinton announced on Wednesday that she would be reaching into her own fortune to keep their campaign going. Senator Clinton announced that she would be lending her campaign $5 million dollars and that figure could get larger. The Clinton campaign was able to move that money into their campaign last month but did not tell the public until after Super Tuesday. Worried what voters might think of her campaign after hearing they could not keep up with the enormous figures that Barack Obama has been able to raise, kept it a convenient secret until Wednesday. Clinton has been able to raise over $100 million dollars so far in this campaign and this move came as more than a surprise to donors. Senator Clinton said that she moved the money, "because I believe very strongly in this campaign." "We had a great month fundraising in January, broke all the records, but my opponent was able to raise more money and we intend to be competitive. The results of last...
Mersman Blog Endorsement: Barack Obama
2008-02-05 06:47:00
Photo by Marc Nozell used under a Creative Commons License After the withdrawal of John Edwards from the Democratic presidential race, the decision of who I would endorse got a lot easier. I think it has been clear for anyone who reads my posts regularly that I do not agree with Hillary Clinton?s campaign tactics and I think that she is the wrong candidate for the party. I had always been torn between John Edwards? populist message and Barack Obama?s message of Hope. Obama has the ability to inspire people and bring voters from the other side of the aisle to vote for him because of his message. Senator Clinton is certainly not a candidate who can get Republican votes. Senator Clinton will unite the Republican Party in an effort to defeat her. Republicans have been waiting a long time for another chance to defeat the Clintons. Obama does not have this built up hatred from Republicans that Hillary carries with her. Barack Obama has the ability to get young voters interested and a...

Ron Paul Money Bombs Raise Over $1 Million Today
2008-01-22 03:59:00
Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul raised at least $1.25 million online today, in the latest “money bomb” to stoke his campaign’s impressive coffers. Paul’s campaign commented: “Let’s make as big a splash in the mainstream media as we can. The media would like to silence Dr. Paul, but with your help, his message will be heard.” Designed to coincide with Martin Luther King Day, today’s money bomb brings the Texas doctor’s fundraising in the first three weeks of 2008 to an impressive $2.6 million, most of it raised on the Internet. On Saturday, Paul finished second in the Nevada primary, and now heads into the Florida primary and Super Tuesday.
“This is about the heart and soul of the Republican Party”
2008-01-13 19:46:00
USATODAY.com  SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. — White House hopeful Fred Thompson continued his debate-night criticism of rival Mike Huckabee on Friday, calling the primary contest a fight between the ideals of Ronald Reagan and populist appeals that blame others for problems.”This is about the heart and soul of the Republican Party and where the Republican Party is going to go over the next several years,” Thompson said during a meeting attended by more than 100 people and also broadcast on AM radio. Huckabee’s campaign dismissed the attacks as issued by a candidate who is on the ropes. Lame, of course, but what else is Huck going to say? The bottom line here is Fred’s right. Huckabee is a RINO. Faux News Holds Faux Republican Debate

In its usual twisted mockery of its “fair and balanced” mantra, Fox “News” is holding a Republican Presidential candidate debate tonight. Kentucky Republican Party Fires First Shot in the Senate District 30 Specia
2007-12-15 03:13:00
The Kentucky Republican Party has filed an ethics complaint against former state Rep. Scott Alexander (D) for illegal campaign expenditures before being an official candidate. From WYMT Scott Alexander Response"The state Republican Party is taking a page out of the Ernie Fletcher playbook; they are lying. I did not commission nor donate to any group not ask for any polling. I am flattered that Brandon Smith and the Republican Party fears me to the point that they are showing signs of desperation. After having lost so badly in the governor race using this type of tactic, I am surprised that Brandon Smith would follow in Ernie Fletcher's footsteps. This alone should tell the citizens of Lieutentant Governor Mongiardo's district that Brandon Smith cannot fill his shoes. We need better representation than that." It is hard to figure out why they filed this complaint. Is it in the name of politics or fear? At this point 3 names are swirling in the mix for the Democratic nod; fo...

Feudal Economics and the Republican Party
2007-11-21 17:44:00
I meant to comment on this opinion piece by Jonah Goldberg yesterday:Ron Paul isn't that scaryIt's important because it tells us what the Republican Party is all about and what it fears the most. Goldberg attacks social conservative Mike Huckabee because he is an economic progressive. What's troubling about The Man From Hope 2.0 is what he represents. Huckabee represents compassionate conservatism on steroids. A devout social conservative on issues such as abortion, school prayer, homosexuality and evolution, Huckabee is a populist on economics, a fad-follower on the environment and an all-around do-gooder who believes that the biblical obligation to do "good works" extends to using government -- and your tax dollars -- to bring us closer to the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.[....]And therein lies the chief difference between Paul and Huckabee. One is a culturally conservative libertarian. The other is a right-wing progressive.Yes, the Republican Party stands for feudal economics - ...

Republican party: proxies of evil
2007-10-28 23:40:00
By VictorM: Over the last decade or so, we have seen the biggest threat to American freedom come from the christian right, a group that Frank Rich has equated to the good Germans. Their activism in support of a brutal and totalitarian approach to implementing their philosophies has been instrumental in the election of George Bush and his pursuit of disastrous policies. Some point to factors suggestion that the love affair is ending:The phenomenon of theologically conservative Christians plunging into political activism on the right is, historically speaking, something of an anomaly. Most evangelicals shrugged off abortion as a Catholic issue until after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. But in the wake of the ban on public-school prayer, the sexual revolution and the exodus to the suburbs that filled the new megachurches, protecting the unborn became the rallying cry of a new movement to uphold the traditional family. Now another confluence of factors is threatening to tear the ...

Eulogy for the Republican Party?
2007-10-24 02:48:00
I think this comment from RedState pretty much sums it up:"ron paul, may have fit in the republican party at one time, but he doesn't belong here anymore. we (republicans) have changed along with society. i believe in a somewhat powerful central government. i think constitutionalists like ron paul are too rigid in their interpretation. like you said, even jefferson abused the constitution. why should we allow our hands to be tied behind our backs by some archaic document? it's a guide, not biblical law."Are we approaching a point in our history of another major political party upheaval, à la the Whig/Republican split?

What the Republican Party has become!
