2008-07-05 12:43:00

CNN's Paul Begala - Republican Or Democrat?
2008-06-20 16:39:00
I just saw CNN Contributor and former Clinton Aide Paul Begala on "The Situation Room" talking "in defense" of Barack Obama on Campaign Finance and on NAFTA against a Republican Strategist who I will not name because it doesn't matter.Begala sounded like he was half in support of Obama and half sympathetic to John McCain. Meanwhile the Republican Strategist was consistently on the attack against Obama. Paul did not effectively hit back. What's up? Is Paul still smarting from Clinton's loss?

Republicanmarket - Racists At The Texas Republican Convention
2008-06-19 02:20:00
Republicanmarket - Racists At The Texas Republican Convention This sad report comes from the blog Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Scott, where it's reported that a button reading "If Obama's President, Will We Still Call It The White House" was being sold. The button is made by a company called "Republicanmarket" which claims to sell "Patriotic and Republican Products."So racism is patriotic? I think they meant idiotic. All bloggers -- Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Scott, burntorangereport.com, this blog, and more -- are calling for you to contact that organization and discourage them from using the mental illness of racism to make a buck. You can email them at sales@republicanmarket.com. You should also contact Tina Benkiser, the head of the Texas GOP at info@texasgop.org and share your feeling with her. Why is it that Republicans are generally associated with racist thought? I guess examples like this are why. But in an age where racism has been identified as a ment...

A Letter From President & Chief Executive Officer Maria Cino, Dear Friend of the Convention, Hello again from convention headquarters! We are now fewer than 76 days from the start of the 2008 Republican National Convention. Convention staff continues to prepare for the 45,000 people who will join together here in Minneapolis-Saint Paul to nominate Senator John McCain as our party's candidate for President of the United States, and launch him on his way to the White House.Since our last newsletter, the convention has received praise from media and bloggers from across the nation for our outreach to the blogosphere and our efforts to organize the most tech-savvy convention in our party's history. The convention's 100-day-out milestone passed during Memorial Day weekend. To mark the occasion, I authored an op-ed for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press in which the convention called on every American - Republican, Democrat, and Independent - to, in the words of Senator McCain, "serve a ca...

Republican Desperation

Hillary Clinton: ?I will be making no decisions tonight? on Quitting the Ra
2008-06-04 06:46:00
So, I’ve already analyzed Obama’s speech which was given shortly after Clinton’s following speech.  She had been expected to suspend her campaign and acknowledge that Obama had reached the “magic number,” but not actually concede, but she didn’t even do that.  She just said, “I’ll talk it over and decide later” essentially.  Here’s the speech: Thank you. Thank you so much. ...

Obama Clinches the Nomination; Clinton Open to Being His Running Mate
2008-06-04 02:54:00
This broke earlier today while I was at work, so my apologies for having it up late. Jim Gilmore wins Virginia Republican nomination for Senate
2008-06-03 17:29:00
Jim Gilmore won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate from Virginia, taking the nod with only 50.3% of his party's delegate vote over state delegate Bob Marshall. Gilmore likely actually had a minority of the delegates at the weekend party convention but a weighting process for vote counts allowed him to eek out the win.The former governor had helped engineer a convention process for the nomination vote, essentially forcing the moderate Rep. Tom Davis out of the race before he could get into it. The path to a party coronation went awry though as instead of Davis taking on Gilmore from the center, Gilmore was severely hurt by a Marshall challenge from the far right. The end result is the best of all worlds from likely Democratic challenger Mark Warner. A former governor himself, Warner left office with far greater popularity than his Republican counterpart and will enter this race with vastly superior financial resources and a more unified party apparatus. The operative question m...

2008-06-01 06:21:00
Today, the Democratic National Committee Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) voted to seat all of Michigan’s and Florida’s delegates, allowing each to get a half vote (unlike the Republican way where they combined 2 votes into one, making the other an alternate) - similar to Guam, Puerto Rico, etc… This will up the magic number from ...
McCain Takes Flip-Flopping and Pandering to New Level
2008-05-30 05:14:00
John McCain lost his ?maverick? status within the Republican senate a long time ago but on Thursday he removed all doubt. John McCain had been a strong advocate for reducing carbon emissions and has said he would make it an important part of his administration. Senator John Warner (R-Virginia) and Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-Connecticut) have sent a bill to the senate that would mandate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. John McCain initially supported the legislation but is now saying that he opposes the bill and will not be there to vote on it. According to the Huffington Post, only three weeks ago John McCain said about the bill ?I hope it will pass.? John McCain was voted the most absent member of the senate in 2008 and this pattern continues with him missing a critical vote on global warming. When McCain did bother to show up and vote he voted with Bush 100 percent of the time in 2008. McCain?s would be vote on this bill is no different. Bush a...

Chuck Hagel Isn?t Really A Republican
2008-05-21 19:02:00
Chuck Hagel should really stop pretending to be a Republican, when he hasn’t actually acted like one in years. Chuck’s most recent act of treason was his speech to a small gathering at the home of the Ambassador to Italy a ...

Non Republican Conservatives Are Causing Problems for the GOP
2008-05-19 21:26:00
THE INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY OF THE FAR RIGHTThis is yet another in the series I am doing on how non Republican conservatives are destroying the GOP.  The past part looked at the sources of the problem.  Today we examine how pervasive the problem is.  This is another of those pieces where I've been working on for several weeks. The most important lesson we can take to the ballot box this political season is the fact that there is an energized conservative movement that is completely independent of the GOP.  They are made up of several factions I will detail below.  ...

There is Nothing Wrong With Being A Conservative or a Republican
2008-05-18 05:12:00
SEPARATING CONSERVATIVES & REPUBLICANSI am known as a cynical, conservative "hating" witch with a "B".  It is true, I no longer trust anything with a "conservative brand".  I am am angry with these people for having infiltrated and destroyed much of my beloved GOP. I am angry with good, decent conservative Republicans for falling for their line of BS. Unfortunately there is a very nasty little bottom line here.  Good, decent conservatives have been manipulated, co-opted, and some just downright purchased by one of two or both manipulators and puppetmasters.  The first is Sun Myung Moon.  When you start ...
Peggy Noonan and an Asymmetric view of Republican troubles.
2008-05-17 03:09:00
Peggy Noonan took Republicans to task, piling on the evidence that the Republican "brand" is tarnished. Perhaps the Republican troubles go deeper than a little tarnish and only some Democratic rust will shine the Republicans up. Explanation: When do you feel more conservative: When money's low and your neighbors are acting up or when you live off your fathers trust fund in his gated mansion? Likewise, good times prompt Democratic victory, as the populace grows weary of improvement and just wants to relax. To put it another way, people will only vote for Republicans, the "course-righteners" in times of danger or perceived Democratic malfeasance. The "malfeasance" manifests itself in the "giving away the store" idea, or, the belief that Democrats have or will irresponsibly damage society to benefit the object of their pity du jour. On social issues, this means affirmative action, gay marriage, sex education in kindergarten, etc. In economics, look at California where, after Gr...
In a Surprise Move, John Edwards Endorses Barack Obama
2008-05-16 02:06:00
Well, I figured that Edwards was going to stay out of this so that he didn’t influence the delegates (so that his delegates wouldn’t go over to Clinton or Obama just because he endorsed one or the other), but apparently Obama is far ahead enough that Edwards figures that Obama is  100% guaranteed to get ...
McCain outlines vision of Iraq victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Republican John McCain declared for the first time Thursday he believes the Iraq war can be won by 2013, although he rejected suggestions that his talk of a timetable put him on the same side as Democrats clamoring for full-scale troop withdrawals. No One Wants To Be A Republican Part II
2008-05-15 21:27:00
NPR agrees with all the other polls: U.S. Is Headed in the Wrong Direction When asked about the job President Bush is doing, 65 percent of respondents overall said they disapproved and a bare majority, 51 percent, said they disapproved strongly. That might help explain why, after years of near-equity between the parties, more voters called themselves Democrats than Republicans by a difference of 10 percentage points. In something of a contradiction, however, the head-to-head match-ups for the White House are considerably closer. Those polled preferred Democratic Sen. Barack Obama over Republican Sen. John McCain by 5 percentage points, while McCain and Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton were tied. Republican Glen Bolger, who conducted the most recent NPR survey along with Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg, says that while these presidential margins might be narrow, the math is pretty clear. “There are more Democrats in the country than there are Republicans,” Bolger says....

It is no surprise that I am a conservative saying this. It’s sad actually. The first and primary reason that the Republican has lost my vote is because I am a conservative.
