So, how many of you have given in and made a New Year's Resolution? Or better yet, we are 7 days into 2011, how many of you have KEPT those resolutions so far?How many have not?See, I decided this year there will be no positive resolutions; no commitment to a Mrs. Schmitty overhaul. I'm simply not going to make any promises that I can't keep.In other words, there will be no writing checks my ass can't cash.Year after year I gear up for the new me to emerge. I will lose weight, I will get in shape, I will be more healthy, I will save more money, I will pay down more debt, I will organize this house, I will spend more time with family and friends, I will take more time for myself, I will, I will, I will."HA!" I say. Each and every one of those resolutions? EPIC FAIL.Why kid myself when usually the opposite of what I say I will do actually happens? Why set myself up for a fall that is clearly inevitable? That's too depressing, right?Instead, I believe a little reverse psychology is ...

(paraphrased from the Talmud)   ?G-d won?t ask if you ran a fortune 500 company. He?ll ask if you made an effort to build a loving home and family. G-d won?t ask how many baseball games you watched. He?ll ask how much time you set aside for spiritual growth. G-d won?t ask how high your salary was. He?ll ask if you compromised your character to attain it. G-d won?t ask why you had so many questions. He?ll ask if you searched for the answers. G-d won?t ask how many pizzas and burgers you ate. He?ll ask what you did to perfect the world. G-d won?t ask why you called Him when things were tough. He?ll ask if you thanked Him when things were smooth. G-d won?t ask why you didn?t succeed in solving all the world?s problems. He?ll ask if you cared for your neighbor. G-d won?t ask how beautiful you looked. He?ll ask if you looked for the beauty in others.?   --The Talmud Good luck with your resolution. There are as many types of lesbian as there are types of women - and even more varieties of shoes. The problem I have with UNcomfortable shoes is exactly that; th e discomfort. Apart from the pain, those stupidly high heeled shoes just cause ridiculous amounts of
Your New Year Resolutions

Although some jokingly say New Year resolutions only go in one Year and out the other, I like what Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn has said about them:Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle. What do you want to change about yourself in the coming year? Do

Weight Loss, Exercise, And New Year's Resolutions - Why They Don't Work?
2008-10-07 02:04:00
Weight Loss, Exercise, And New Year's Resolutions - Why They Don't Work? was written by Greg Ryan from resolutions.bzWe have all set them, and we will revisit them again around January 1st. For some reason each year we feel it will be different this time around - only to forget the new gym membership, new clothes and new found inspiration about six weeks into the year."Why do New Years Resolutions fail us year after year?" Or a better questionis, "Why do we fail them?" I believe it comes down to this; anytime you postpone the start of something, means it is not urgent or serious enough in your life. When something bad happens to you, what do you do? You move it, you make decisions, you don?t think about it you just move forward."You will only follow through on your weight loss program when the consequences become your reality." -From Greg Ryan's e ?book "Truth or Consequences?"Almost all the people that I have counseled over the years in weightloss have been successful in keeping...

The birds are moulting. If only man could moult also -- his mind once a year its errors, his heart once a year its useless passions. - James Allen (1849 &endash; 1925)One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: "To rise above little things." --John Burroughs (1837-1921)THE object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. Unless a man starts on the strange assumption that he has never existed before, it is quite certain that he will never exist afterwards. Unless a man be born again, he shall by no means enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. - G.K. Chesterton, 'Daily News.'Every man naturally persuades himself that he can keep his resolutions, nor is he convinced of his imbecility but by length of ...

Update on Resolutions: 1 Months Down; 11 To Go
2008-02-03 16:09:00
Since January has come and gone, so I thought it would be good to update everyone as to where I am with my resolutions. I decided to score myself on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being no resolution success and 10 for fully meeting goal success. When I do an average of each ranking below, I come in at 5.5 out of 10. That is not what I hoped, but above 50%; besides it is only one-month. I will get there. Here is where I stand:1. I will commit to trying my best to be healthier. Update: 3 out of 10; Dale and I started strong, but again got busy and let our busy lives derail us. We are planning to start again today with a focus on eating smaller portions more often and exercise at least 4 times weekly.2. I will commit to not letting anyone bring negativity into my life. Update: 6 out of 10; I feel I am doing well with this overall. I even read a great book, Energy Bus on this subject.3. I will commit to telling Dale that I love him every day. Update: 10 out of 10; I did this every day. It is...
Keep Up With Your 2008 Resolutions
2008-02-03 11:40:00
This is a post from SuperBloggingTips.com, a make money online blog. Photo credits: reportergimmi. We’re past a month into the year 2008, which is a great time to look over our blogging goals and resolutions and see how much we’ve accomplished and how we’re doing so far. It’s easy to get distracted and completely forget about goals, but if you do checkups every now and then to remind yourself, you’ll be ahead of even your own expectations before you know it. Let’s take a look at my New Year resolutions. I wanted to work on increasing subscribers, guesting posting more often, building my communities, networking, commenting, getting into a regular posting schedule, building backlinks, working on SEO, learning code, and of course more make money online tactics. I set plenty of goals to keep myself busy this year and to pose a challenge, but not enough to be simply overwhelming. After doing a quick evaluation, I believe I am doing okay but there is d...
New Year?s Resolutions That Count
2008-02-03 00:00:00
Making a New Year’s Resolution means setting goals for the upcoming year that you want to accomplish. Most of the time these goals are things that in some way will improve your quality of life. Resolutions for Homeowners - Part II
2008-01-31 00:12:00
Here is the second two of 10 resolutions that the American Homeowners Foundation urges all Homeowners to adopt this year. One of the best New Years Resolutions homeowners can make is to eliminate expenses that are unnecessary and have no benefit. This is a tall order for many of us, with implications ranging from how you finance your mortgage to the energy efficiency of your home. Nevertheless it's a very worthwhile exercise which will affect your current and future lifestyle. Many have already made some of the following ten 2008 New Years Resolutions for American Homeowners, but few probably addressed them all. Resolution #3: I won't let fears of dropping home values, the mortgage market meltdown, and the growing risk of a recession stop me from purchasing a home in 2008. Many homeowners have decided to put off the consideration of a home purchase because of these concerns, but in many cases those fears are unwarranted. If you want to move in ...
Keeping New Year's Resolutions
2008-01-30 03:54:00
Well, it is almost the end of January, and so far, I've kept some resolutions (hooray!). One of my resolutions this year was to keep better records. This was precipitated by the fact that we had to file our federal taxes late (we got an extension) because my husband had an emergency appendectomy just before tax time. Plus, I found I was often puzzled with the question: "Where did all that money go?" I'm combining low tech and high tech. Low tech: I have a small notebook I carry with me everywhere which slips into a clear plastic case which closes and holds loose papers. In there go all the receipts as well as notes, e.g. cash, credit card, ATM, reimbursed, non-reimbursed, etc. High tech: I have done an Excel spread sheet where I'm recording the same data. My late mother-in-law, for all the years I knew her, lived very frugally, and always recorded every penny she spent. I can't honestly say I'm recording every penny, but it is enlightening to see w...

Many have already made some of the following ten 2008 New Years Resolutions for American Homeowners, but few probably addressed them all. Resolution #1: I will get my home finances in order. Despite all the disaster stories about the mortgage meltdown, mortgage interest rates are relatively low and widely available to creditworthy homeowners. This is therefore a good time to review how you are financing your home. You may be able to save money, reduce financial risks, imp...

Why New Years Resolutions Fail
2008-01-25 16:04:00
The gym is less crowded now. It's amazing how packed it got just after the new year when all the couch potatoes made their resolutions to get fit and into shape. The place was teeming with folks with their new work-out clothes, water bottles and good intentions, but alas, most are nowhere to be seen after a few short weeks. Why is it that resolutions always seem to fail? Why do good intentions fall by the wayside? The man reason is that most people make decisions based upon emotion or emotional reaction, and we all know how fickle and changeable emotions can be. Perhaps they looked in the mirror and hated what they saw. Perhaps a little kid made an innocent comment, like the 3 year old in the hot tub with his dad yesterday. When a very fat lady showed up to take a dip he couldn't take his eyes off her, shocked as he was by her large size in such a small bathing suit. The young man was so appalled by what he saw that he insisted, ordered, out loud, that his dad look away to the righ...
Broken Resolutions
2008-01-25 06:01:00
YIKES! We’ve not even reached the end of January, and every single new year’s resolution has evaporated. We really did have good intentions. Teachers and therapists had resolved to read up on the latest research and strategies so they could increase their abilities to provide top-notch services to their students and clients with autism and other challenges. Parents really meant to help their youngster with potty-training or with daily exercise and they were truly committed to taking time to read to their child every night. But all of the resolutions have already been moved to the back burner. Listen Now: or (more…)
