But it remains unclear whether EBay will still try it in other countries. EBay often tests big changes in smaller markets before expanding them worldwide, and says it is open to that in this case."We are going to take learnings from it and apply them accordingly," said EBay spokesman Usher Lieberman.EBay says it wants to reduce disputes and restore trust in its marketplace with the PayPal-only plan. 2008-02-27 23:49:00 Kids don't like CDs: iTunes Store now #2 music retailer All this is quite fascinating and there is a lot of interesting information in that article. I want to call out one stat that jumped up and bit me: It said that the number of US consumers using P2P file sharing for music plateaued at 19 percent during 2007, while legal music downloads grew. So not only has iTunes moved ahead of all other legal retail channels but one, the trend for illegal p2p file-sharing has flattened. Illegal downloads are still approximately double the amount of legal downloads (19% to 10%), but the rate of increase has stopped. (whether that holds is a question I leave to next years pundits). Like everyone always says...go read the whole thing.

iTunes Now Number Two Music Retailer in the US
2008-02-26 21:05:00 Apple today announced that iTunes is now the number two music retailer in the US, behind only Wal-Mart, based on the latest data from the NPD Group*. Apple also announced that there are now over 50 million iTunes Store customers. iTunes has sold over four billion songs, with an incredible 20 million songs sold on Christmas Day 2007 alone, and offers the world's largest music catalog of over six million songs from all of the majors and thousands of independent labels."We'd like to thank the over 50 million music lovers who have helped the iTunes Store reach this incredible milestone," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of iTunes. Retailer Offers To Trade Toshiba HD DVD Players & Recorders For Blu-ray
2008-02-22 10:14:00 It’s not often that you hear of a retailer who seemingly genuinely cares about their customers these days but, when it comes to customers who opted to purchase Toshiba HD DVD players and recorders, Edion, who own a series of electronic stores, have offered its customers a trade in whereby they can bring back Toshiba HD DVD players and recorders and trade them in for Blue-ray devices from Sony, Panasonic or Sharp. According to Tech.co.uk, the offer from Edion will remain in place throughout March allowing its customers to return any of seven Toshiba HD DVD decks purchased from the store to trade them in for Blu-ray models from the aforementioned manufactures (though, as the Blu-ray devices are more expensive than the HD DVD units the customers will, understandably, be required to make up the shortfall).
