The War in the Pacific?A Retrospective
2008-06-04 21:52:00
The Indie Book Awards has named WWII veteran and author Leon Cooper’s work, The War in Pacific: A Retrospective, as a Finalist in the History/Historical Non-Fiction category of the 2008 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. His book will be listed among other finalists in the Indie Book Awards catalog to be distributed at Book Expo America in Los Angeles in June. This award means that Cooper is privileged to add “Finalist” gold award stickers on the cover. This outstanding new book is written from the point of view of a participant, one “who was there” in the battles the author analyzes. He was a Navy landing craft officer, charged with leading Higgins Boats carrying assault troops on to the beaches of Japanese island strongholds. In this capacity, he was able to observe firsthand the fatal mistakes made by area commanders, resulting in the needless sacrifice of American lives. Unlike other histories of the Pacific conflict, the author relies on personal e...

Deal Breakers - A Reluctant Retrospective
2008-04-25 00:06:00
When Heather gave us our marching orders.....errr, I mean "blog entry suggestions" during the Blogger Blowout last weekend, I went a bit numb when I received mine. To reveal what one considers in one's relationships to be a "deal breaker" can unearth some rather uncomplimetary truths about a person. Fellow blogger, Tyler Jordan, queried not too long ago about the truth to the lyrics in the Cross Canadian Ragweed song "17" that tell us "You are always 17 in your hometown".  I find that statement to be almost universally true and perhaps the reason that so many of us choose to escape and live our lives elsewhere in this great big world and perhaps, embrace the chance to reinvent ourselves, to live the life we want to live and be allowed the opportunity to be the person we want to be. To look at my own personal "deal breakers", then and now, is to go back and reflect on a person who, while I am not in anyway asha...
TV Retrospective Pt 2: Dead Like Me
2008-04-21 00:40:00
Dead Like Me ended its two year run in 2004, but to me it was brand new. I bought it off amazon on a hunch, looked at the package warily for weeks and last weekend dove into it. I wasn't disappointed. Dead Like Me is the story of George Lass, a college dropout with no future, no goals and not much of a life. On her mother's orders, she signs up with a temp agency and on her first lunch break, is killed by a toilet seat from the MIR space station. She is recruited as a Grim Reaper and joins a quirky group of Reapers, struggling to balance the unpaid reaping job with a real one and dealing with her death and her family's reaction to it. The show is quirky, just the way I like it. It is funny too, with Ellen Muth playng George - delivering wonderful lines, timely and straight on the mark. George really got me as a character. This girl was me when I was 18. Hell, she's me now. This was the girl who had a promising future as a kid but grew into moody, sullen adolescence a...

A Bit Belated: Retrospective on the Rabbit Hole
2008-04-14 18:52:00
I've been so preoccupied lately that I forgot to make note of the 1 year anniversary of innkblotz - and it was on April Fool's Day, to boot! After taking a look at the first post here at this blog, I decided to reflect back on this past year. In the very first post, I talk about wandering down this rabbit hole to see what treasures would be unveiled. I never made any specific goals, because I was completely uncertain but open to any opportunities available. So, where did I find myself this past year - and where will things go for this next year?I have to say that I am pleased that I did get some freelance opportunities under my belt, although I wish I had attempted a few more. Given the intensity of my thesis proposal for most of this first year, though, I suppose I could forgive myself? Nonetheless, I managed to get mental health articles in a few online/print magazines, as well as developed volunteer opportunities with one mental health agency in the city. In the later part of t...
Why the Long Face? Modigliani Retrospective
2008-04-14 11:03:00
The latest exhibition at the Nagoya City Art Museum is entitled Amedeo Modigliani Retrospective. It started April 5th and runs till June 1st.There are some 60 works on show, mainly oil on canvas and pencil sketches.I dont recall seeing any of his sculpture works on display. There were examples of his nude and portrait works selected from various art galleries and museums around the world including pieces from New York and Europe as well as offerings from Japan.Born in Tuscany,Modigliani received his early formal training in Rome influenced by the Renaissance and nineteenth century Italian artists.Moving to Paris in 1906 his work was further influenced by contemporary artists such as Lautrec and Cezanne as well as different genres of art such as sculpture and primitive art from Africa and Egypt. From this melting pot of various art forms, movements and artists,Modigliani seems to have formed his own unique style that looks both back and forwards.Take for example his portraits. Most have di...

TV Retrospective Part 1
2008-04-10 03:36:00
Today I cast my mind back to the days of the Gilmore Girls. I miss this show - with their locquacious, witty and sly sense of humor - I always walked away feeling like someone has done something good in the world. The Gilmore Girls was a great show for so many reasons. I'd like to say it was predominantly the presence of a sense of magic that seemed to emanate from the show. That mother daughter relationship was nothing short of spectacular. How many real life mothers and daughters watched it together, bringing them closer if only for forty minutes a week? For awhile there, watching the Gilmore Girls was the only thing my mother and I could agree on. Other relationships were pretty magical too, sure it was sometimes frothy and over the top, but at other times it was pure heart. Remember the day Jess came to town? Yum. Or the friendship between Rory and Lane, sticking together through the stormiest of weathers. Luke was a wonderful banter partner for Lorelai, slower, more sarcastic ...

Capitol/EMI Releasing Bobby Womack Retrospective
2008-03-25 04:42:00
Capitol/EMI has announced the upcoming release of The Best Of Bobby Womack: The Soul Years, a retrospective that cover's the singers late-60's to late-70's recordings. The CD/digital tracks are set for May 27.Bobby Womack spent his early carrier in the group the Womack Brothers, who opened in the 50's for a number of big gospel groups, including the Soul Stirrers where he first met Sam Cooke. When Cooke started his SAR label, he recruited the group and changed their names to the Valentinos who scored their first hit in 1962 with Lookin' for a Love. Two years later, the group had a very minor R&B hit with It's All Over Now, a song that Bobby wrote, which was eventually recorded by the Rolling Stones and made into their first U.K. number one. After the death of Cooke, the Valentino's slowly broke up and Womack became a guitarist for a number of soul greats and wrote music for Wilson Pickett, including his hits I'm in Love and I'm a Midnight Mover. It wasn't until 196...

F1: Dennis retrospective spells the end
2008-03-06 13:00:00
So, the Ron Dennis rumours have finally hardened up enough that the BBC feels it?s safe to report them. The story comes in the form of a long profile which is a pretty interesting read, as well as setting out his different roles within McLaren and what he?s actually likely to be resigning from. It?s just a shame it reads so much like an obituary.

Great retrospective of the most insufferable pratt to walk the face of the earth, Daisy.I did have access to some people of privilege but Buckley personified the sort of pompous well-to-do intellectual who gave other intellectuals a bad name. Of course he didn't believe in education for everyone, because in his world, only people of a certain social class could comprehend education. The rest were just going to be his maid and wash his car for him.The era he represented was bygone before he was born.

Tatsumi Orimoto Retrospective
2008-02-13 22:27:00
Believe in the power of bread. That was the idea behind Japanese artist Tatsumi Orimoto's "Bread Man" performance art series in the '90s. Meant as a unifying symbol of communication, he made his name with the body of work which involved global travel to places like Nepal and Germany with loaves of bread tied around his head while a puzzled public looked or laughed on. Now MASP, or the Art Museum of São Paulo (where thieves recently jacked Picasso and Candido Portinari artworks which were found a few weeks later leaning against a house in a favela), is presenting a heady retrospective exhibit—1,000 photographs, 160 drawings and 10 videos—of the bizarre but fascinating artist. In addition to photos of "Bread Man," the show includes "Art Mama," moving photographs by Orimoto examining his dear mother who suffers from Alzheimer's and depression. By focusing so intently on his subject, he means to rescue her (and those handicapped in general) from the outer limits of...

No, this has nothing to do with the family of Carl Yastrzemski or some new birth control. This is the reuniting of Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet for the first time since 1983 to mark the 25th anniversary of their band Yazoo (or Yaz). Before they hit the road, a four-disc box set will be released in May which will include both of their albums (Upstairs at Eric's and You and Me Both) in both remastered stereo and 5.1 mix, along with B-sides and a DVD with interviews and videos. The group first formed when Clarke left Depeche Mode and were only together for a year before Moyet went on to a successful solo career and Clarke went to Erasure.Clarke told a British publications, "It's been really good going back to these songs after such a long while. Retrospective 2007
2007-12-29 17:20:00
It's been an incredible year - blogwise speaking. 2007 was a year that I and my blog kind of grew up. What I mean is, what started in 2006 as a way to simply record my recipes and ramble on about things in my life, basically to keep in touch with my family, has grown into an incredible platform where I really feel I am giving and sharing my experience (mostly in the kitchen) with others. asa-i la moda, la sfarsit de an, tot omul face retrospective si evaluari unii primesc bonusuri, prime, petreceri de craciun.. uite ca eu nu o sa ma parte de recompense materiale, nici macar de christmas party, desi mi-ar fi placut sa il duc pe Alexandru la o petrecere cu Mos cracila.. scuzati Mos Craciun asa ca m-am gandit sa fac si eu  propria retrospectiva: cum a fost anul acesta? ce asteptari am avut si ce am primit, de fapt? ce-i cu blogul, cu jurnalul de bebelus? de unde am inceput si unde am ajuns? cu ce prieteni am pornit la drum si cati mi-au ramas alaturi? cum mi-a schimbat viata Alexandru? ce limite mi-am depasit in anul ce se incheie? ce target-uri am pentru urmatorul an? la toate aceste intrebari am sa gasesc raspuns, in zilele ce urmeaza, pana la sfarsitul anului. fiti pe faza, ca .... vorba aia: urmeaza senzational, nemaipolonic intr-un ibric, dezvaluiri socante din spatele cortinei. ......................... ............................. .......................... .....
