Return of the Jedi to Shelbourne Park
2007-09-07 12:24:00 The very best of luck to Kilkenny trainer Paul Hennessy tonight in the final of the beautifully sponsored Irish Greyhound Derby. Paul has won pretty much everything there is to win in Irish greyhound racing with the exception of the Derby, which he has particularly shite luck with. Tonight he trains three of the six finalists including the favourite Ardkill Jamie, so obviously has a cracking chance at landing the €175,000 purse. Bizarrely however the dog drawn out of trap three, Groovy Stan, was previously trained by Hennessy but did little to impress both trainer & owner and was exiled in the UK. Now like a canine Luke Skywalker, Groovy Stan returns to his native country as a fully fledged Jedi-Knight and could cause his old trainer another Derby nightmare. Paul, may the force be with you!
