Vodafone Wants to Triple Data Services Revenue
2012-01-10 11:11:00
Vodafone Group Plc hopes to triple the revenue share of its data services in its India operations over the next two years. Vodafone hopes to achieve this growth riding on increase in the use of smart-phones for accessing Internet as well as downloading music. Currently data services contribute 3% to Vodafone’s topline. This will go up to 10% in two years’ time, hopes Samaresh Parida, Mumbai-based director of strategy at Vodafone India Ltd. Banking and applications to increase farmers’ productivity are two other things which will contribute to this growth. “Right now the growth of data is pretty phenomenal, but it’s from a very small base so we’ll be pushing the throttle on growing the business in data as fast as possible,” Parida said. Telecom operators are facing a stiff challenge as Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) is on the decline. Though there is a record growth in subcriber numbers, it has not resulted in revenue growth. Social Media Advertising Revenue To Reach $8.3 Bn In 2015: BIA/Kelsey
2011-05-04 08:44:00
Social media as an industry will continue to boom, it will not be saturated in the near future. According to BIA/Kelsey, a social media advisor firm, social media advertising revenue will go up to $8.3 billion within 2015, while In 2010, revenue spent on social media advertising was $2.1 billion. So, the industry would see 295% hike in 2015 compared to the 2010 ad spending. Along with this prediction, BIA/Kelsey made another proclamation. The firm informed that by 2015, non-display ad formats will muster popularity. Twitter’s business models which include the promoted tweets, profiles and trends are good examples of non-display ad formats. Although these ad formats do not generate much revenue now, BIA/Kelsey seemed optimistic when they said that by 2016, there will be scores of new non-display ad formats which will generate $600 million from null at present. Out of the said $8.3 billion, $7.7 billion is expected to be earned from display advertisement, while the rest will come f...

Event Marketing More Revenue Generating On Facebook Than Twitter!
2011-03-18 05:58:00
In today’s world, social media marketing is probably the best way to promote a brand. Now, if you are an online marketer and comparing various social media channels to gain insight as to which would be the best platform to tout your product, Eventbrite’s analysis can help you out. Eventbrite is an event registration site. They have analysed social media trends to measure the growth of ecommerce in terms of that. Back in October 2010, Eventbrite released a report based on rigorous analysis on social commerce and social media. In that report they came up with the so called tangible data for quantifying and evaluating the impact of social media as a driving force behind ecommerce. This data showed that if sharing on social networks is taken as equivalent to dollars, a Facebook share equals to $2.52 while each share on Twitter is equal to $0.43. Time has passed by but the scenario remains the same. A new report from Eventbrite shows that that a like on an event that is posted on Fa...

Facebook’s Revenue To Touch $2 Bn In 2010?
2010-12-17 07:15:00
A report from Bloomberg states that, Facebook could reach a revenue of $2 billion through 2010, while this figure was just below a billion in the previous year. The interesting but unsurprising thing is, a large portion of this revenue has come from advertising and virtual currency. In all senses throughout the year, these two segments have undergone phenomenal growth. Facebook has become the best place for established brands and small businesses to showcase their products and services. This is because of the nearly 600 million users who have made Facebook their port to online communication. When it comes to online ad dollars, Facebook almost seems fit in Google’s shoes! That’s true, the two web giants are quite close to each other in this respect. If sources are right, then display ads on Facebook are about to become 1 trillion from 50 billion. A very interesting thing is, they are taking full advantage of being a social networking site. Their income from virtual currency seem...

In a move aimed at securing its eReader dominance, Amazon has announced that it will increase the revenue split for magazine and newspaper publishers from their former 30%, to a whopping 70% of the retail price, net of delivery costs ( (revenue – delivery costs) x 70%). In order to qualify for the generous revenue share, the publishers must ensure that their publications are available on all Kindle devices and applications including its e-Reader, desktop application, apps for iPhone, Android and in all geographies for which the publisher has rights. However, Blog publishers will continue to receive 30% of the gross revenue. The eReader Market According to a research firm Forrester, eBook sales are expected to reach around three billion dollars by 2015. That’s a very optimistic prediction but it also gives Amazon a reason to tighten its hold in the digital publication market. Popular Articles Do Not Bring In Ad Clicks, Revenue – Survey
2010-10-19 06:40:00
Digital advertising is undoubtedly the future of advertising. Google recently made some predictions in the field in the years to come. Google itself has online advertising to thank for the tremendous success it saw in Q3 this year, one of its best quarters. Advertising is all about ad placement, and you would think it makes sense for an advertiser to place an ad next to a popular article like Katy Perry’s wedding in India, or Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra breakup. However, a recent survey has proved that popular articles are not necessarily best for revenue but ads relevant to the article are. The survey The survey conducted by Perfect Market took into account revenue generated from 15 million articles in over 21 news website. The conclusion was that low mortgage ads next to an article on the mortgage rates in today’s times, or employment ads next to articles on increasing unemployment are most likely to generate revenue rather than putting ads with no relevance nex...

CTA keeps lid on expenses, but revenue down in first quarter
2010-05-18 14:00:00
While the CTA spent about $23 million less than budgeted in the first quarter of the year, system-generated revenue was $8.5 million less than anticipated for Q1, according to the financial report presented at last week's meeting of the Chicago Transit Authority board.Reasons cited for the reduced revenue include:Lower than anticipated farebox revenue because of lower ridership from the service cuts.Lower vehicle and platform advertising revenues.Lower revenue from property sales. On the expense side, the CTA reports it cut costs in:Labor expense due to vacancies, lower overtime and higher charges to capital jobs.Materials expense through a "reduction in the bus fleet with scrapping of the 19-year-old buses, lower material usage for rail cars and lower fare card material."Fuel costs with favorable...

Key items include:Labor expenses were down about 3% ($2.2 million less than budget) due to vacancies.Material expenses were down almost 31% ($2.5 million less than budget) because of the need for fewer vehicle maintenance parts.Fuel costs were down about 23% ($1.4 million less than budget), with no explanation given. One scary stat is that working cash...

By law the minimum recovery ratio is 50%, but "the significant reduction in public funding forces a recovery ratio for the CTA that far exceeds the requirement," notes the CTA's detailed budget recommendation. The budget document goes on to say:The recovery ratios in other regions throughout the country are far lower depending on the level of public tax support for transit in those regions. The Chicago region is one of the few in the country with a legislatively mandated recovery ratio of at least 50%. CTA,...

Google Introduces Fast Flip And Shares Revenue With Publishers For The Firs
2009-09-15 05:37:00
Scott Karp of Publishing 2.0 summed it up the best, Google understands web publishing and the web better than publishers. So while the men in the business of news (and the women for that matter) are all busy thinking better models of business to survive in digital medium, Google has come out with an all new way to access and read news.  With Fast Flip, Google makes news a more print like commodity and delivers and innovation that perhaps publishers should have been the first to try. And to make it happen Google has also gone out of its usual ways and done a revenue share with publishers. The idea behind Flip Fast as one can gauge from the name is to make browsing faster. The enormous amount of news and content that is available on the web makes sure that loading a news site is pain to the eyes and a load on even the fastest browsers in high broadband. Google considers that a print like solution where we can flip through to the content that we need like in a magazine is what the we...

Affiliate Revenue - Killer Clickbank Programs - How to Earn Cash As a Click
2009-07-09 12:48:00
Clickbank programs are hot news at the moment. At the time of writing this article there are no less than three brand new products being released. I must confess Clickbank is my favorite affiliate program arena, it is user friendly, the standard of products are extremely high and it is a safe place for buyers who are protected but a no nonsense 8 week guarantee policy. The problem is that a relatively small percentage of Clickbank affiliates earn serious cash and then there are the few that have cracked the code and are making a fortune promoting Clickbank programs and products, the site offers vendors and affiliates a solid base to work from making it easy to offers quality products. So what is the answer to making more cash with Clickbank? You have the product and as an affiliate the best vendors offer you ready made marketing and advertising materials, vendors most likely have already spent a small fortune to prepare the material and having a sales page written by a professional co...
“3G is Overhyped While Revenue Share In Mobile VAS Is Fair To Content
2009-07-09 10:36:00
We spoke to Arvind Rao - Chairman, CEO and Co-founder, OnMobile about the on-going 3G saga, the post auction market scene, impact of MNP on VAS and more to get a gist of his views and opinions  - On 3G - The biggest beneficiary of 3G will be mobile internet access. Operators in India are trying to load more calls per spectrum and hence spectrum is clogged First use of 3G will be for voice. Second use of 3G would be for data both for data cards or internet on mobile. On post 3G auction - It will take 2-3 years for a full 3G rollout even after auction for large players and for last mile 3G connectivity in India. 3G handsets are expensive and hence adoption of 3G would be low Even if handsets have video calling facility it doesn’t work unless both the users have a video calling-enabled handsets. So for actual usage there is still a lot of time before 3G can make an impact. Hence, I don’t see substantial revenues through 3G materialize for 5 years substantial. Subst...

Lake Forest Shows Chicago How to Generate Beach Revenue
2009-07-03 17:18:00
By tradition and case law, Chicago's lakefront is supposed to be free, and I find no legal citations that say parking meters are allowed.Yet, the Chicago Park District intends to install 4,000 parking meters, charging $1 an hour, in its lakefront parks, doing away with the longstanding tradition of free parking.Even though I defended (in theory) the big increases charged for use of the city's curbside meters, I think that the Park District is going about it in the wrong way as a revenue-raiser. A better plan is:Make only suburbanites pay the higher tariff. Especially, anyone from Lake Forest, which has raised the practice of nicking out-of-towners for the use of their beach to a high art.  Fair is fair,...

Bing Ads Per Click Revenue Grows By 8%
2009-06-15 05:59:00
Paid ads are the major sources of revenue for any search engine. Microsoft Bing seems to be binging northwards as the number of paid ads clicks rose by almost 8% in a week after launch of search engine as per Wall Street Journal. If this trend continues Microsoft will be able to lure more and more advertisers and will be able to generate more revenue. As of now Google holds more than 76% share of Ads revenue followed by Yahoo. Microsoft had very less revenue from the ad market as its penetration in the search market is less than 7% . As more and more users are trying out Bing it seems that Bing may be able to grab some loyal users and more users meaning more ads per click revenue. It seems that Microsoft strategy is to attract more users who are likely to click the ads available on the search page. Bing most fascinating features are Travel and Shopping, Users which are searching for Travel and Shopping deals will easily click on the relevant ads displayed with the search result thu...

Redirecting your feed to maximize revenue potential
2009-05-19 21:56:00
One of the most popular (and recurring) questions our publishers ask is, "How do I maximize revenue for AdSense for feeds and ensure my subscriber stats are as accurate as possible?" Some of you can recite the answers to these questions backwards and forwards (though we find typing it backwards is quite difficult, so we'll leave you to say that aloud). But for our many new publishers that are just tuning in, here's the recap.Just setting up AdSense for feeds ad units in your AdSense account is not enough to start seeing traffic and revenue to your feeds. It's critical that 100% of your feed traffic be directed to the feed(s) you created in AdSense for feeds or your FeedBurner account. Luckily, this is fairly easy to do via two standard methods.Redirect your original feed. This is the recommended option for all publishers, but especially if you have an already established blog or feed that already has subscribers. This option ensures that all traffic gets funneled to the versi...
