Fire 1-Revolution 2: No Luck in New England
2009-11-01 23:54:00 The Fire headed into Sunday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the New England Revolution knowing that they couldn't afford to give the Revs many set piece opportunities. "We have to limit their set pieces," Fire Head Coach Denis Hamlett said earlier this week. "[We have to be careful on] throw-ins and corner kicks because they do well with those." But the Fire wasn't able to control New England's dead ball opportunities and they paid the price for it, surrendering two goals off of set pieces to fall to the Revolution 2-1. The loss puts all the pressure on the Fire, who now needs a victory in next Saturday's series deciding Game 2 just to have a...
Fire set to take on Revolution in Playoffs
2009-10-26 14:26:00 When the Fire played the New England Revolution on Oct. 17, many saw the match as a possible playoff preview. Now that the MLS regular season has come to a close those predictions of a Fire-Revolution postseason battle have come true. The sides will begin their two-leg Eastern Conference semifinal series at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gillette Stadium; the second game will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Toyota Park. Both games will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel....
Fire 0 - Revolution 0: Still not in...
2009-10-18 03:50:00 If someone would have told me midway through the season that the Fire's playoff fate would be in the balance heading into their final match, I would've have called them crazy. But here we are. After tonight's 0-0 draw at the Revolution, the Fire find themselves with one game left to play and their future still uncertain....
Matchday 10/17: Fire vs. Revolution
2009-10-17 23:32:00 Hey everyone, we're 20 minutes from game time and it should be a good one at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Mass. I'll be sharing all of my thoughts/observations in the comments section of this post -- and I encourage you to do the same. Also, if you're interested in meeting a Fire player/getting a look at FIFA 10 (which comes out on Tuesday) the Fire is hosting a FIFA 10 tournament at the Best Buy Hancock center in downtown Chicago on Monday. Cuauhtemoc Blanco (who's on the cover of the video game) will be there and signing autographs as well. I'll likely do a full post on this tomorrow afternoon to serve as further reminder but until then this will...

Update: Revolution Brewing
2009-09-16 22:36:00 Today we checked in with Handlebar co-owner Josh Deth for the latest on his plans to open Revolution Brewing in Logan Square. The ETA? If absolutely everything goes according to schedule, late November. (This week, they're working on the building's façade and there's still plenty of work to go till opening day. Follow the construction process at revbrew.com/blog.) Brewing will begin in October to prep for the opening of the brewery and adjacent brewpub, and we were psyched to hear about a few of the mainstays: Bottom Up Belgian white, Irish Fist pale ale and Workingman Mild, a chocolate and caramel-inflected cousin to brown ale that'll be cask-conditioned and hand-pumped at the bar. They'll all sell for around $5. Deth hired...

China's Migrant Workers. The Revolution Will Have To Wait.
2009-08-14 01:03:00 Robert D. O'Brien (have I linked to the right person?) over at China Beat has a great post up on the impact China's manufacturing downturn is having and will have on China's big picture. The post is entitled, "China’s Migrant Workers in the Wake of the Economic Crisis: Unemployed, Undeterred," and it basically concludes that the macro impacts on China will be micro. I tend to agree. What do you think?

Patrick Lynn Rivers, "Seeing the Revolution Again"
2009-08-13 19:33:00 SEEING THE REVOLUTION AGAIN by Patrick Lynn Rivers Why do dominant cultural institutions reproduce whiteness in Chicago and elsewhere? Obviously, dominant institutions act from ignorance and outright racism, or they wouldn't be dominant. There's a more salient reason, though, why, today, dominant cultural institutions engage some and ignore others. African American artists were at the forefront of what was nationally and internationally privileged and canonized by the dominant culture during the 1980s. But this did not last as black artists freed to explore and make work transcending "black art" soon faded from the fore as revisionists reasserted artistic norms and as art history and criticism turned towards race and representation. To gain traction in "art world" discourses artists of color...

Fire vs. Revolution: Player Ratings
2009-07-16 19:48:00 The Fire advanced to the SuperLiga finals last night after defeating the defending SuperLiga champion New England Revolution 2-1 at Gillette Stadium. The Fire, which is now 6-2-3 on the road in all competitions this year, had several players turn in good performances on Wednesday night and hopefully the team can continue their momentum into the weekend. Here are my full player evaluations for the match......
Fire 1 -- Revolution 0: Super Blanco leads Fire to finals
2009-07-16 03:42:00 To put it lightly, Cuauhtemoc Blanco has been struggling as of late. The Mexican forward hadn't played a good match in weeks but when the Fire needed 'Temo to step up in tonight's SuperLiga semifinal match at New England he did, and in a big way. Blanco notched an assist and scored the game winning goal for the Fire in their 2-1 victory over the Revolution that propels the club into the August 5th SuperLiga tournament final. The Fire gets back into action on Saturday when they host San Jose in MLS action but for now they have to be savoring tonight's win. The Fire were able to score the first goal of the match in the 34th minute...
The SuperLiga Semifinal: Fire vs. Revolution Match Preview
2009-07-15 11:18:00 The Fire gets back into SuperLiga play tonight when they take on the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium (6 p.m. TeleFutura) in the tournament's semifinals. "Its huge you know," said Fire forward Chris Rolfe on the match. "It's the semifinal of a tournament and... it's something that all of us are striving to win to prove that were the best." The Fire last played the Revs on May 9th, playing New England to a 1-1 tie at Toyota Park. The Fire will be looking to take all three points from New England this time around and the team knows that if they want to advance they will need to improve upon Saturday's play in the final third of...

Facebook Revolution Ratchets Up
2009-06-21 16:41:00 Not to take a back seat, Facebook is driving its social network headlong into the streets of Iran. As witnessed last week when it hastened to make 'real-time search' a major priority, Facebook, not to be overshadowed by Twitter wants to be perceived as a major player on the national scene. Evidence of how it looks to achieve that goal are surfacing in the US and the Middle East.
Facebook Revolution vs. Twitter Revolution!
2009-06-18 16:23:00 Like Bill Maher and Twitter, Facebook thinks it needs to move its big tent to a real-time format! Facebook will renovate its News Feed and Search capabilities to real-time format, just as soon as they finish beta testing. Not to be outdone by the Fail Whale, Facebook is launching new real-time search functionality that will allow members the opportunity to search for links, news updates, photos and videos of registered users, and get those results in real time.

Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit
2009-06-02 16:12:00 I recently found out about a new book about hardcore culture. I haven't picked it up yet, so as soon as I get it I'll post a review. The book is called "Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit, and Sound" and it's by Brian Peterson. The book is supposed to cover where 80s hardcore left off and discuss the culture that embraced straight edge, animal rights, D.I.Y., and spirituality into their lives and hardcore.I find the concept of this book rather interesting by the fact that the author was into hardcore in his teens in the 90s and now is a writer and high school English teacher. Just because you're a punk as a kid or even listen to hardcore as an adult does not mean that you can't become whatever you want in life. Hardcore isn't a barrier to life and you can live your life as an adult outside of the scene and still enjoy the music and culture.I think that too many people see subcultures like hardcore as a dead end. It's whatever yo...

Manufacturing companies, in the midst of this rapid expansion, needed to hire workers to run the machine
Revolution? Yeah, Right.
2009-05-13 10:53:00 Taxation without representation has been going on in this country the moment personal income (mentioned nowhere in the Constitution) mysteriously became taxable.Today I read articles of people crying about the health care issue. Yesterday they were crying about bailing out corporations. Tomorrow they will be crying about something else. Seems I have been reading articles about people crying in this damn country for as long as I can remember, yet have not seen anyone do a thing about it.You people can bitch and moan all you want from both sides of this issue (or any other issue) but the bottom line is you pay enough taxes already to fund any program you want. With the amount of taxes you pay, you should be living in a fucking paradise. Too bad the people you elect continue to ignore you and spend your money on only what they deem worthy, with zero accountability to you or anyone else, and with absolutely no regards to waste. There is also no oversight to determine if the trillions o...

Spirit of French revolution
2009-03-22 14:29:00 Jean Jacques Rousseau was a French philosopher. His father married Rousseau?s mother only to desert her after his birth. From here started his sufferings. He was considered a dangerous character. It is why he was hunted out form one city to another. He died un wept un mourned and unsung.Contemporaries criticized his book The Contract Social when it was published. To them he retorted by saying that he could see the time when his book would be bounded by the skins of their coming generations. There have been two seismic revolutions in the world: French and Russian revolutions. French revolutionaries during their struggle wrote three words on their flag ? equality, liberty, love ? taken form The Contract Social.Lot many people including French King Louis IV and the Queen were guillotined during the Revolution. Their skins could have been used for binding Rousseau?s book if it were the custom. All researchers agree that his was the mind behind the French revolution.

2009-03-12 02:31:00 (Artist credit: Apollo)Was unable to access my blog for a couple of weeks and it took a lot of figuring out as to why. Hence, no updates and unable to publish comments I was informed were waiting for me here. Two issues I want to bring up in today's post: HR 875 and the Health Revolution Petition. This was sent to me so I thought I would share it here. This is one person's interpretation of this bill, and from what I read of it, it is certainly easy to understand why there would be much apprehension over this bill passing and becoming law. You May Be Arrested Soon For Growing A Tomato As our government hands over billions to Wall Street bankers, jobless Americans live in tent cities and collect food stamps in record numbers. Now when we need it the most, growing our own food may be against the law and punishable by a fine of up to $1,000,000. Think I?m joking? Fight the Power : Onward with the Revolution
2009-03-03 16:17:00 I am encouraging everyone with a book to sell to make use of the free and low cost technologies like blogs and on demand publishing. The "risk adverse New York media" is what is rapidly going out of style, not new ideas and new artists. Once, a "risk taker" took a chance on a young Ernest Hemingway, who changed all the rules, and four working class lads from Liverpool. It's a sad fact that "mass market" and "mainstream" today means the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus and endless cartoon spin-offs. These 70 year old farts in their suits think everyone out there is 9 years old....

The Opt-Out Revolution
2008-12-23 08:49:00 "Women wear the pants, pay the bills and compete with the big boys,? is a cry in Candace Bushnell's new novel "Lipstick Jungle, ?The women in this book have realized that you can't completely rely on men. ?They are not looking to be swept off their pedicured feet, nor are they content to be the proverbial woman behind every great man.? In fact, more often than not, the XY chromosomes in Ms. Bushnell's jungle are depicted as spineless, useless, or worse; ridiculous.Like The Opt-Out Revolution by Lisa Belkin, assertions in Lipstick Jungle are going to creat a great debate; attention, criticisim both my men as well as women. The questions here are do women need big men for success and self-actualization? Do men make women glow? How else can they shine with the fullness of life? Or axiom like men and women complementing each other still holds some water.
