In version 1.0, Bosspaper has some added features such as a sequential wallpaper rotation option. Another one…

Revolutionary War Historian Joseph Ellis Says U.S. Imperialism Violates ?Hi
2008-04-22 15:32:00 America's military presence in Iraq represents "a basic violation" of its "historic identity," that of a nation founded in opposition to imperialism, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Joseph Ellis said. Americans have neglected an important lesson from their own past, Ellis, an authority on the Revolutionary War period, said. "We have become the imperial power. We have become Great Britain and have succeeded Great Britain as the hegemonic power of the world. I would think we would wish to avoid making some of the mistakes she made." He challenged the idea that the U.S. needs a military presence in South Korea and Western Europe as well as Iraq. "The notion that (our problems) are going to be solved in a military fashion is fundamentally misguided and it's going to send us right down the path that Britain went and into oblivion," Ellis warned in a recent talk at the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover. GIRLS ROCK! The Movie. It's revolutionary!
2008-04-20 00:00:00 What does Hollywood have to offer her? Sad to say, it’s more of the same. More often than not, women are relegated to throw-away roles: the Supportive Wife/Girlfriend, the Conniving Bitch, the Damsel in Distress. - - - - - - Special report by RJ Keller 1967. My mother, then in her late teens, sat in a darkened theater, awed and enthralled by the spectacle of a Jazz Age woman making her own way in the work place, overcoming body image issues, and generally living her life on her own terms. “Beat the drums,” the heroine sang, “‘cause here comes Thoroughly Modern Millie now.” The drumming came to a sudden halt for my mother shortly before fade-out, however, as Millie--immediately after exposing and taking down a human trafficking ring--murmured these words to her fiancéé: “I don’t want to be your equal anymore. I want to be a woman.”

He argues that this transformation has been tied to the rise of "expert movements," groups whose authority has rested on their expertise. The deployment of machines was an attempt to gain control over state action -- a revolutionary move. Agar shows how mechanization followed the popular depiction of government as machine-like, with British civil servants cast as components of a general purpose "government machine"; indeed, he argues that today's general purpose computer is the apotheosis of the civil servant.Over the course of two centuries, government has become the major repo...

IBM working on a revolutionary memory format
2008-04-11 14:24:00 Solid-state (pictured) and conventional hard drivescould eventually be replaced by racetrack memoryIBM researchers are working on a new hi-tech form of memory they believe could eventually replace hard drives and flash-based memory altogether.Based on the recently discovered spintronic phenomena, the new memory format has been dubbed racetrack memory by the IBM researchers working on it and uses tiny magnetic boundaries, known as domain walls, to store data. The domain walls are read by exploiting the weak magnetic fields generated by the spin of electrons.Years awayAlthough the IBM research team have yet to build a functioning racetrack memory unit and estimate that the technology is another eight years away from becoming viable for commercial use, they are confident that the technology could eventually replace existing storage methods.Currently, conventional hard discs are cheap, but consist of moving parts that can break down. Solid state memory, by comparison, is quicker and more...
Scientists unveil revolutionary 'racetrack' computer memory
2008-04-11 11:39:00 By Roger Highfield, Science EditorApril 11, Telegraph The prospect of iPods that can hold millions of songs and PCs being able to turn on instantly, rather than taking minutes to "boot up", comes much closer today.A Californian team has developed a new generation of memory that combines the high performance and reliability of solid state "flash" memory, stored in microchips, with the high capacity of the PC's hard disk drive, which is cheap but contains moving parts and is slow.In two papers in the journal Science, Dr Stuart Parkin and colleagues at the IBM Almaden Research Centre in San Jose describe a revolutionary technology dubbed "racetrack" memory, or RM memory. The team believes that it marks a milestone that could lead to electronic devices capable of storing far more data in the same amount of space than is possible today, with lightning-fast boot times, far lower cost and unprecedented stability and durability.Within the next decade, racetrack memory, so named because the...

Book Review: The Truth About Back Pain: A Revolutionary, Individualized App
2008-04-07 19:11:00 This book is an interesting read for anyone who suffers from back pain. It is written by two successful chiropractors. I would say that if you do not believe in the benefits of chiropractic medicine, this book may not be for you. I felt the authors wrote this book with a "voice" that seemed truly honest, and friendly. It seemed to me they really wanted to help people feel better. I never got the impression that they were "selling" their ideas or products, which unfortunately happens some times in health books. The book is written from the belief that back pain comes from three distinct causes: structural physical damage; nutritional/diet; and emotional-stress and personal issues that may affect health. I agree with this philosophy as I have seen in my own life how everything, including exercise, stress and work, effect how I feel. Click to read more ...

Venezuela: Mass revolutionary party 'to make history'
2008-03-18 07:08:00 by Bolivia Rising (Federico Fuentes) Addressing the founding congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) on March 2, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez proclaimed the new party to be "a party for the social battle, for the defense of the homeland". "If the homeland, the revolution were Â… attacked in a direct manner by the empire or its lackeys, each militant of this party should convert themselves into a revolutionary soldier Â…" "The PSUV is born, destined to make history", Chavez said of the party whose creation he called for in December 2006 to unite the various groups and mass base among the poor that support the revolution. "Its fundamental role is to be Â… the biggest guarantee of [the revolution's] permanence." That same weekend, 1,600 delegates at the founding congress approved the program and declaration of principles of the new party. The previous weekend Chavez was elected president of the party and the congress...
JAPAN: Tony Blair Urges `Revolutionary' Carbon Emission Cuts
2008-03-15 22:21:00 Former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair urged the U.S., Japan and European nations to make ``revolutionary'' cuts to greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.``Since poorer nations will see their emissions rise as they industrialize, and since the world population may well grow from 6 to 9 billion, emissions in the richer nations will have to fall close to zero,'' Blair said at energy and environmental talks in Chiba City near Tokyo.Ministers of the Group of Eight industrialized nations and representatives from 12 other countries discussed how to finance technological efforts to tackle climate change, and the basis for a successor to the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012.U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases total 20 tons a year per person, twice as much as in Europe and Japan, Blair said. The world's average emission level may need to fall to as low as 2 tons per person to halve global output of the harmful gases by 2050, he said.``If the average person in the U.S. is to e...

Very big cash prizes and revolutionary science
2008-03-11 14:38:00 Should scientists be offered very big cash prizes to stimulate "revolutionary" science? Absolutely (and this is a start). But should such prizes be restricted to young scientists so "that it influences their behavior in (about) their mid-late twenties"? Not so sure, although this echoes the often repeated statement by Sir Arthur C. Clarke (his first law) that, "When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong." Clarke has also said something to the effect that a way should be found to prevent the "elderly statesmen" of science from always standing in the way of new breakthroughs (or "paradigm shifts," to use that overworked old cliché), but people like, for example, J. Craig Venter might have something else to say about that.

Revolutionary Love
2008-03-07 12:06:00 I always believed that love as a political instrument is a vastly under-researched concept in both journalism and among academics. I hate to sound like a hippie, but I reckon that with a reconceptionalised experience of love and what it is (and perhaps what love should be), the world could be a better, i.e. more democratic and equal, place.Love as immanence so to say. Like in a poem of Pessoa: I'm nothing. I'll allways be nothing. I can't even wish to be something. Aside from that, I've got all the world's dream inside me.I think this is what Hardt is arguing (or what he tends to argue) for in the uploaded video files below. I am sorry I should explain who that is. Hardt is a neo-Marxian theorist, who wrote together with Negri the manifesto for the anti-globalisation movement: "Empire". If you are up for it, you can find your free copy here.Enjoy the lecture (about 30 mins)Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5Part 6
