Domaine de la Janasse 2006 Cotes du Rhone Blanc
2007-08-10 21:39:00
The nose is rich with mushrooms and spice, though there’s a certain dried apricot perfume there from the viognier, too. You can definitely smell the oak here, which was lavished on this wine but doesn’t overpower it. On the palate, this white is every bit as deep and nuanced as the nose implies, with a ...
Rhoneing Around Again
2007-07-24 13:39:00
Apparently I've been delving into the Rhone varietals lately, and here is yet another one. The wine was a bottle of Chateau de Nages, Appellation Costieres de Nimes Controlee, Reserve 2005 White Rhone Wine. The blend was 60% Grenache and 40% Roussanne. The wine weighed in at 14.5% alcohol by volume (high for a white!), had a plastic cork and cost me $7.99 at Total Wine.On the nose I found honey and apricot and I would call the overall aroma sweet. Which oddly contrasted with the flavor in the mouth with I would overall describe as spicy. Go figure. I found lemons and oranges in the mouth and the wine tasted slightly oaked, but I can't find any information on what kind of fermentation this bottle went through.Overall, my impression was "eh." The wine was NMS.
Domaine de Mavette Cotes du Rhone 2003
2007-07-17 20:07:00
Today, when so many wines are sold by their varietal name ? Cabernet, Chardonnay, etc. - Côtes du Rhône wines are one of the few blends that have taken off with winedrinkers. The Domaine de la Mavette shows why: the Grenache brings notes of cassis and blackberry; the Syrah and Cinsault, touches of clove ...

Chateau de Segries 2005 Cote-du-Rhone
2007-04-05 06:06:00
I picked up this little beauty at my local grocery store for only $9.99.Chateau de Segries is owned and operated by the Hendri de Lanzac family since 1994. The Chateau is located in Lirac, just across the Rhone river from Chateauneuf du Pape, and the average age of the vines are over 30 years. The 2005 Cote-du-Rhone Rouge is made from 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 10% Carignan.Dark red in the glass with black berry, dark fruit, and a hint of toast and vanilla on the nose.Once in your mouth, full and round fruit with dark plum and slightly tart fruit. Nice acidity and smooth, well integrated, tannins, the palate ending in a medium length finish.I thought this was a really nice wine for the price ($9.99). And it can be found at Wine-Searcher.com for only $8.99...Vote for my blog here and help me reach top 10 on The Blog TopI am now in top 15!
