Lyoto Machida vs. Rich Franklin (Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2003-Inoki Festival)
2008-05-07 03:08:00 Lyoto (Ryoto) "The Dragon" Machida vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin(Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2003-Inoki Festival)To all the people who say Lyoto Machida is a boring fighter- that's not true at all- he's just a very careful fighter. And when I say careful fighter, I mean careful as in a effective fighter, not Kalib Starnes "careful" (click here)Hate him all you like for being a Shotokan Karate posterboy (something I can understand, although it annoys me when people conveniently forget his BJJ and Sumo background.)As for good examples of Machida's striking ability, watch this (it ends with a knockout, I promise!) as well as his fight against Vernon White, where he keep catching White every time he throws a punch.I really can't wait for Machida vs. Ortiz coming up soon. Now, for absolutely no reason, here is the Stephen Colbert vs. Rain (Bi) dance off from last night's "Colbert Report"Online Videos by Veoh.com

UFC 77 Hostile Territory Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva II
2008-01-12 17:26:00 Rich is a great fighter, but Anderson is just far too dynamic. If Anderson would train a little with Randy Couture on his wrestling, he would be virtually perfect.

The Lighter Side Of The UFC
2008-01-03 08:59:00 I?ve always been fascinated by the UFC?s dichotomy between violence and comedy. For a sport that was born from two men beating the snot out of each other, there certainly are some funny things that go down in and out of the Octagon. As we catch our breath from UFC 67 and gear up for UFC 68, I thought it would be a welcome departure to look at some of the UFC?s funniest moments. With so many to choose from, I?ve tried to narrow down my choices to the five that can still make me laugh. A timeless article (from last year) by MMA Mania's Jesse Holland.5. Go with the KenFloKenny Florian, despite his talent, gets quite a bit of heat from UFC fans. I?m sure it has a lot to do with his stint on The Ultimate Fighter, an experience that can vault you into the main event of a pay-per-view while simultaneously branding you with a Scarlet Letter. Most of the gags are cheap and childish, like the comparisons to Ben Stiller and Kevin Richardson from The Backstreet Boys. There does exist however,...

UFC 82 Location Revealed
2007-12-27 05:53:00 At least PRIDE's 185 pound champion Dan Henderson won't have to suffer losing both his belts in the same calendar year. He'll get to do it early next year against Anderson Silva. Think it can't get worse for Hollywood? Think again. He gets the displeasure of taking on The Spider in what has become his personal home field -- Columbus, Ohio. Not much to say here. The bout we all knew was going to take place still is, but it's in the place where Anderson Silva dominated hometown hero Rich Franklin. TWICE. If the crowd wasn't enough to boost their hometown favorite, Dan Henderson has no chance. Silva is only a -145 favorite right now, but expect that number to read -200 before the bell rings.

Anderson Silva Post Rich Franklin UFC 77 Interview Video
2007-10-24 16:48:00 ESPN had a chance to shoot some footage of the Anderson Silva, post UFC 77 press interview. Anderson talks about how all of the moves he pulled off during the fight are everyday moves for him, he trains like that all of the time, and it’s just another day in the office for him. If you watch the first few seconds of the video, you’ll see some amazing defensive head movement by Silva. Anderson talked about Rich’s hometown advantage and how it wasn’t much of a concern for him. He would have preferred to fight in Vegas, however, what the UFC wants, he’ll provide. Watch the full video…
Rich Franklin Nose Silva Is Tough. - 23 Oct 2007 10:43:08pm
2007-10-24 00:43:00 By Kevin Francis You will not find Rich Franklin disputing the growing feeling that Anderson Silva is the best pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighter in the world. Franklin has had his nose broken on both occasions that he has climbed into the octagon to face Silva, most recently in Cincinnati at the weekend. Franklin, who lost to Silva 13 months ago, was taken to hospital after finding himself on the receiving end of a flurry of powerful knees, punches and kicks from UFC middleweight champion Silva, who scored a second round TKO. Franklin said: ?My game plan was not to get my nose broken again and all I can say is that I?ll be damned ? it happened again! ?I take my hat off to Silva. He is a great champion and came into the octagon with lots of experience. He is a very difficult opponent.? Brazilian Silva, who now has a record of 20 wins and four defeats, looks unbeatable at the moment and UFC president Dana White had no hesitation in calling him the best pound-for-pound MM...

UFC 77 Results
2007-10-22 00:38:00 A lackluster card in Cincinnati developed into a lackluster event with the majority of the action falling on the undercard, a HW fight that went nowhere, and a carbon copy of Franklin's previous loss to Anderson Silva. UFC 77 - Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin Fight Results
2007-10-22 00:34:00 Anderson Silva does it again! As predicted, with 3 minutes and 53 second remaining in the second round, Anderson Silva defeats Rich Franklin again with a TKO from strikes. Going into the fight, Rich Franklin looked much better than he did during their first match up at UFC 64 Unstoppable. Toward the end of the fight, Silva was showing his confidence with fancy spinning back fists and kicks, while dancing around the ring. As the end of the first approached, Rich was once again in trouble. Anderson began to throw fury of knees and punches, and once again, we were reminded of the speed and skill Silva possesses. Going into the second, it was obvious that Anderson was going to finish the fight this round. He smelled blood and was ready to finish. 1 Minute into the fight, Silva began to tee off, throwing a barrage of strikes, bringing Rich Franklin helpless to the ground once again. Who’s going to bring a challenge to Silva? Source: UFC.com

Rich Franklin Training For UFC 77 Anderson Silva Fight
2007-10-11 22:12:00 Rich Franklin’s website currently features some pictures of Rich training for his upcoming UFC 77 fight against Anderson Silva. Rich looks to be in great physical shape. But I don’t know if mentally he’s prepared to take on Anderson. Their last fight was so devastating that mentally he’s going to have a huge hurdle to get over… and two fights in between isn’t going to build that confidence. In the next week, I’m going to need all of the pre-UFC 77 training videos and pictures out there to prepare for the upcoming UFC 77 Face Off With MMA Movement and UFC Daily. If you have any good links, let me know. Â
Rich Franklin Betting Odds - Too Good To Pass Up
2007-10-10 16:41:00 Alright I've put my bet in today. I had been considering a bet on Silva if his odds improved, but the money is still floating his way at most books. Today Bookmaker posted odds of +185 for Rich Franklin. It's just too good of a value for me to pass up. Franklin is a very smart fighter training with an excellent team and he will definitely have an effective game plan ready for this fight. His probability of winning is much better than the 35% chance Bookmaker is listing him at. For insight into those odds here's a CBSSPORTS article discussing rematches at length (Thanks Ufcmania for spotting this one)The other line I'm keeping an eye on is a chalk bet on Brandon Vera. The odds tightened up by about 10 points this week with Vera currently sitting at -175. I would prefer to enter this one around -150, but I'll likely bite at -165. This is another fight I'm really looking forward to both of these fighters have a lot on the line and questions to answer.**update Bradon Vera's odds h...

UFC 77 Betting Odds: Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva II
2007-09-28 01:06:00 They say styles make fights and true that might be, the mental state could make this fight. We've seen the scenario repeat over the last few years; the top fighters in the world (Hughes, Cro Cop, and Lidell for example) finally get crushed and suddenly they seem 10 years older, tentative, and start talking about how many fights are left in them. While others come through with relentless determination and self belief (Couture). Now, Rich Franklin finds himself in this situation, he has found solid footing in the octagon again with wins over McDonald and the powerful Okami. So, is he ready? Has he returned to being the hungry Franklin who always found away to dominate his opponent? In Franklin vs Silva I, Rich was surprised by Silva's strength and knees from the clinch. The problem was that Silva capitalized on his advantage quickly and Rich's will to fight was broken before his nose.I'm going to give Franklin the benefit of the doubt in this fight. He will be prepared not only phy...

Top-Ranked Filho Says Contract Only Included WEC
2007-08-04 00:05:00 Undefeated and highly-ranked Paulo Filho recently spoke on his contract with Zuffa, citing that it only included a deal with the WEC and not the UFC. Did Filho get screwed? Is he ducking current champ and friend Anderson Silva? Find out more inside...Despite Filho's status as one of the top Middleweights, he was only offered a deal with the WEC. Many think that the WEC and UFC are technically the same organization, as they are both owned by Zuffa, but as this example shows us, that isn't completely true. However, Filho is just anxious to start making a name for himself in the U.S. and doesn't seem upset by Zuffa's lack of explanation. From CBS Sportsline:Q: When Zuffa first approached you, did they give you a choice between fighting for the UFC or WEC?PF: No. I wasn?t given a choice. I was offered a chance to fight in the WEC and that?s what I took. Q: Was any detail provided as to why they wanted you for the WEC as opposed to the UFC?PF: There was no detail given. The WEC i...

UFC 73: What's Next?
2007-07-09 06:56:00 In my last post, UFC 73: Quick Results, I didn't really get into the details of what happened at the event, why certain outcomes were noteworthy, and where the UFC and its fighters go from here. I didn't do any of that. But I'll do it now.Who does Sean Sherk fight next?A little-known 155 pounder named Masson Liang. Just kidding...actually, I don't know who he's going to fight. Since the Lightweight division is relatively new and unfilled, who is to take the takedown master on while all the Welterweights cut pounds? I don't really need to see a rematch with Florian and Penn seems to be more interested in fighting up a class. BJ is no longer the svelte Hawaiian who took out Caol Uno in 11 seconds. Maybe Nick Diaz or Sports Illustrated cover boy Roger Huerta? It's possible, but there's nothing currently in the works. With 9 events in between Sherk's last two bouts, don't expect a title defense before the New Year. What happens in Silva-Franklin II?The same damn thing....

The Ultimate Top Twenty
2007-06-26 23:19:00 As you may or may not know, I'm really into statistics (which usually turn into rankings). It's one of the only objective methods we have when determining whether one fighter deserves more praise than another. And so, over the past two nights, I've gone through every single UFC event card, tracking wins, losses, and draws. I scoured each PPV (72 of them), Fight Night (10), The Ultimate Fighter finale (5), and Ortiz-Shamrock beatdown specials (1) as I dutifully recorded wins and losses, one by one, for 529 fighters. Am I out of my mind? You bet.Anyway, here is the spreadsheet on which I worked for so long to create. When you find a mistake, email me so I can change it. Remember, it's ONLY UFC bouts. Now, to make some sense of the numbers. I originally decided on a ten fight minimum to be included on the list of the top twenty highest winning percentages, but soon realized that this would leave out both Georges St. Pierre and Karo Parisyan (each 7-2). And so, the minimum o...

Rich Franklin: Title Shot Will Come in Cincinnati or Denver
2007-06-22 14:39:00 With a win at last weekend’s UFC 72 event, former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin (22-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) secured a shot at reclaiming his belt. He’ll now face the winner of UFC 73’s fight between current champ Anderson Silva and top contender Nate Marquardt, and according to Franklin, it’ll happen in Cincinnati or Denver. Franklin made the announcement while speaking at a UFC-sponsored breakfast at the Associated Press Sports Editors convention in St. Louis, according to Wrestling Observer. Franklin, who survived some late-fight danger to defeat Yushin Okami in UFC 72’s main event, is one of the UFC’s winningest fighters. He defeated Evan Tanner at UFC 53 to win the middleweight title, but after two successful title defenses, he lost his belt to Silva at UFC 64. Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena has been a longtime rumored site for the fight, and according to a UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) source, the arena still hopes to host the event sometime October or Decembe...
Whippin' Up Predictions for UFC72
2007-06-17 21:28:00 UFC is invading Belfast, Northern Ireland this weekend (June 16, 2007) as they hold UFC 72: Victory at The Odyssey. UFC 72 is the third event to be held in Europe and the UK, joining UFC 38 in 2002 (Royal Albert Hall in London, England) and UFC 70 in 2007 (MEN Arena in Manchester, England). Honestly, though, UFC 72 doesn?t look as appealing on paper compared to the more recent UFC showings, but who knows, UFN 10 didn?t look appealing either and it ended up being a solid event. Nonetheless, it?s MMA so, I don?t mind. The card for Saturday night is as follows:Main Card Bouts * Middleweight bout: Rich Franklin vs. Yushin Okami * Light Heavyweight bout: Forrest Griffin vs. Hector Ramirez * Lightweight bout: Tyson Griffin vs. Clay Guida * Middleweight bout: Jason MacDonald vs. Rory Singer Preliminary Bouts * Heavyweight bout: Eddie Sanchez vs. Colin Robinson * Welterweight bout: Dustin Hazelett vs. Stevie Lynch * Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis...

UFC 72: Victory RESULTS
2007-06-17 20:00:00 Apparently UFC 72 wasn?t just unimpressive on paper. Last night?s UFC 72 event in Belfast, Northern Ireland could have easily been labeled one of the worst UFC cards to date. With a non sellout crowd, the event began with some exciting fights, followed with lackluster performances and topped off with a poorer performance at the main event, between Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami. I truly feel for those who paid for an event that should have been aired on SpikeTV. Last week's Ultimate Fight Night 10 deserved that PPV spot more than UFC 72 did.Ben and my predictions were all dead on when it came with the winners, but as far as way of win, Ben was the only one who predicted the Griffin-Guida decision correctly. Maybe next time. Anywho, here are the results for last night?s UFC 72 event: Rich Franklin defeats Yushin Okami via unanimous decisionForrest Griffin defeats Hector Ramirez via unanimous decisionJason MacDonald defeats Rory Singer via TKO (strikes) ? UFC 72 Betting Odds: No Updates Possible
2007-06-14 03:11:00 I had myself a caddyshack night when my computer was zapped during a lightening storm. The result is I've lost a lot of data and my ability to get to most of the net. I have minimal access from a work computer, but we have so many filters I can't even get to blogger to see if this email post will work. Top that off with Blogger crapping out....ah technology. So, I won't be able to update my odds tables for UFC 72, but the links still work so you can check them manualy. I lost all of my breakdowns etc and I will be leaving tomorrow for 4-5 days Thursday morning so I won't be able to reccomend any wagers. I will highlight my fight picks for the night and as always you can make the call on where to make the cabbage. Hopefully I'll be back to full steam for the TUF 5 Finale.Main Card Bouts:-Rich Franklin (Dec) vs. Yushin Okami-Forrest Griffin (TKO) vs. Hector Ramirez-Tyson Griffin vs. Clay Guida (Sub)-Jason MacDonald (Sub) vs. Rory Singer-Ed Herman (Sub) vs. Scott SmithPreliminary B...

Yushin Okami is Rich Franklin's opponent at UFC 72
2007-05-08 23:59:00 From RichFranklin.com:"I spoke with Monte (my manager) Saturday evening and that conversation eluded to the fact that Kampman may be out. Monday,I was told he would be replaced with a top 10 opponent, and Okami was presented as the likely possibility. Later that day we found out Okami signed. From my end, the contract remains the same, and I'm still excited to fight June 16th in Belfast. My camp will make some changes in my training as well as develop a new strategy to approach this fight. However, I was and will continue preparing a fight...not a person." |
