Video Time: Ricky Williams
2008-05-10 07:00:00
It's Saturday, so let's get to a couple of videos. Today I thought we'd watch a little of Ricky Williams back in his prime.  Both of these clips are from the week 13 game in Buffalo back in 2002.  Notice that great burst through the line and then the finishing speed to break away from everybody.  What a combination of power and speed this guy once had. The first video is below.  The second is after the jump.   So that's if for now. Barring any breaking news, I'll see you back here on Sunday night/Monday morning. Have a good weekend, all!

Hi Ricky Williams!!! Bye Ricky Williams!!!
2007-11-27 23:12:00
After years of suspensions, months of substance abuse programs, social anxiety therapy, and a few pounds of sticky icky for Roger Goodell, Ricky Williams returned to the NFL last night. Unfortunately, Ricky’s return lasted for about five snaps. Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Lawrence Timmons stepped on Ricky’s shoulder while he lay on the field, causing him ...

Source: Ricky Williams out for season
2007-11-27 20:49:00
So much for the return of Ricky Williams.  After just 6 carries on Monday night, Ricky Williams' season is reportedly done, according to the Palm Beach Post.  Citing a source, the paper reports that Ricky has suffered a torn chest muscle and will need around 4 months to fully recover. The injury occured on the play in which Ricky fumbled early in the 2nd quarter. Replays showed Lawrence Timmons, the Steeler who recovered the ball, step on Williams' shoulder while he was on the ground laying face down in the slop that was Heinz Field. Here's what his agent, Leigh Steinberg, had to say: "It's just sad. As hard as he's worked. He worked so hard physically to get back into shape and in therapy. He worked so hard for that moment and to have it end this way is sad." "Life is a series of crossroads. On the positive side, he has been readmitted to the NFL. The Dolphins were clear that they want him to rehab there, that he's part of the team again. So he's taken t...

Ricky Williams to Get the Starting Nod

Will Ricky’s crouching tiger help the Dolphins tonight against Pittsburgh? You can stop all the speculation heading into tonights game. Ricky Williams to rejoin Dolphins
2007-11-16 08:25:00
By STEVEN WINE, AP Sports WriterNovember 15, 2007DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Ricky Williams stood at a window in the Miami Dolphins' player lounge and watched the start of practice as he chomped on an apple, so close to an NFL return he could taste it. Coach Cam Cameron decided Thursday to welcome Williams back, and he'll be on the field starting with Monday's workout. His first game in nearly two years could come a week later, Nov. 26 at Pittsburgh. "He'll be a member of this team," Cameron said. "He's a Miami Dolphin." Again. Williams has tested positive for marijuana at least four times since the Dolphins acquired him in 2002. Miami's franchise-record playoff drought began that same year. But it's difficult to imagine how Williams could sabotage a team that's 0-9, and so the long, strange trip continues. Cameron said his players favored Williams' return from a 1 1/2 -year suspension, and the 2002 NFL rushing champion embraced yet another fresh start. "I'm at a place now where i...
Are You Wondering How Ricky Williams Got Reinstated Into The NFL?
2007-11-15 02:25:00
Nobody expected it to happen. Most NFL pundits strongly doubted a tough dictator like Roger Goodell would allow Ricky Williams back into the NFL after failing four drug tests. I even doubted it myself. When the news of Ricky’s reinstatement broke this morning I was initially shocked, but then it all made sense. I now had ...
Wedesday Morning Updates: John Beck and Ricky Williams
2007-11-14 17:40:00
Wow!  What a Wednesday, huh?  I've just now been able to get to a computer to make a post about these two things, so sorry for the delay.  Great job by you guys making diaries on these hot topics. Also, a big thanks to everyone who e-mailed me about either the Beck or Ricky news. I really do appreciate it! Just to recap, here's what is currently going on in Dolphinland: HERALD SAYS BECK TO START This story keeps changing way too much.  First, the Palm Beach Post said Cleo Lemon would start.  Then Alex Marvez of FOX Sports claimed Cam was still undecided.  Now, the Miami Herald is reporting that John Beck will start on Sunday.  And just now, ESPN is also reporting that Beck will be named starter today.  According to ESPN's report, a "person familiar" with the conversation has told the AP that Cam sat down with both QBs and told them his decision.  But at this point, don't get your hopes up too much.  Let's wait until Cam...

Daunte Culpepper/Ricky Williams Updates
2007-06-29 22:33:00
Just some afternoon updates for you guys. First of all, Daunte Culpepper's arbitratio hearing has been postponed until Tuesday.  It was originally scheduled for today.  It was delayed because of the person hearing the case had flight issues.  This hearing is due to the fact that Culpepper is fighting to be released, saying the Dolphins violated his contract by not allowing him to practice in mini-camp.  However, he was able to practice in individual drills.  He just received no snaps in the team drills.  That, my friends, is not grounds for any violations.  It's the same as the 4th string QB not getting any reps.  It happens. As for Ricky, John Clayton is reporting that Williams will apply for reinstatement come September.  However, even if he is reinstated, it isn't likely he remains with the Dolphins.  In fact, it's unsure if any team would want him.  In my opinion, I think it's 50/50 right now as to whether or not Roger ...
I've seen this movie before --
2007-05-18 21:58:00
Not to beat this Ricky thing into the ground, but this is getting ridiculous. The Associated Press reports:"Miami Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, speaking publicly about Williams' latest drug relapse for the first time Friday, all but slammed the door on a return by the troubled running back.I will not allow our fans to be let down by people that are not on our roster -- not again,' Cameron said. 'It's my responsibility not to let that happen. We have the greatest fans in the game, and we've got men on our team that we're going to focus on.''So Coach, tell us again about that injured punt returner you picked up 10 spots too early while passing on the QB who's going to torch you during week six.The fact is that the Dolphins are proven to be better when Ricky is in the backfield. This is a fact. He lead the league in rushing in 2003 with a horrid offensive line. During 2005, he rushed for over 700 yards after his 4 game suspension. He's a proven back but most importantly HE'S CH...
Run Ricky Run --
2007-05-15 17:53:00
Social Anxiety Disorder, a condition that affects tens of millions of Americans each year, can make functioning in daily society extremely difficult. Symptoms of S.A.D. can include completely avoiding social situations, having an intense self-consciousness in social settings, or even having an unreasonable fear of embarrassment. Now imagine having that condition as an athlete.Ricky Williams does just that. For years, Ricky's battle with S.A.D. has been well documented. From leaving his helmet on during interviews, to his failed drug tests, everything he does is under a microscope.I'm not one to immediately sympathize with athletes. I find it near impossible to sympathize and empathize with a person who is able to make millions by playing a game. Not with the problems in the world today. However, I cannot help but feel sympathy for Ricky Williams.Early this week, a source has come forward and revealed that Ricky Williams has failed his fifth drug test, therefore delaying his reinstat...
Ricky Williams: We Hardly Knew You
2007-05-15 07:03:00
It's time again for Travis Wingfield to check in with us and give us his view on the Ricky Williams saga. In his latest piece, he's gives us a tribute to Ricky, the player with all the talent in the world but who just couldn't put it together in his head: March 8, 2002, the Dolphins trade 2 first round picks for troubled running back Ricky Williams. Some fans were skeptical while some were ecstatic about acquiring a former Heisman Trophy winner. The warrant for the uncertainty of some was trading two consecutive first round draft choices in the 2002 and 2003 NFL drafts. The problem wasn't Ricky's production; it's the idea that he has played his last game with the Dolphins after lining up in the Miami backfield for only 44 games. I'm not a general manager, but giving up 2 first round picks for a guy who only played less than 3 seasons is a raw deal. Prior to the Williams trade, the team was in the post season for 5 consecutive seasons. Following the Williams trade, Mia...

Ricky Williams Tests Positive For Pot - Again!
2007-05-11 18:08:00
This was just in from a phone call from Bill Chachkes and confirmed at ESPN: Ricky Williams tested positive for pot, and his doctors are recommending that his re-entry into the NFL be delayed. I feel sorry for Ricky, as he apparently sees nothing wrong with taking a toke or two, but can't understand that the NFL does. If he wants to play in the NFL, he's going to have to stop taking his weed. It's that simple. But then would he be able to hang with hot women? Well, I forgot, he has a significant other, ...who's that lady?

Giving Kevin Kolb the Benefit of the Doubt
2007-04-29 03:02:00
By Michael Johns I wouldn't exactly call Jeffrey Lurie, the owner of my beloved Philadelphia Eagles, a good friend, or even a friend at all really. But we share enough in common: the same birthday (September 8th) and a passionate love for the Eagles, which in my case goes back to the age of six or seven, with fond memories of Ron Jaworski and Bill Bergey. Mr. Lurie's history is actually not as deeply rooted in the green and white: he comes from Boston, then headed to Hollywood to run some movie production company, neither of which you would find too commonly among the old 700-level Veterans Stadium fans that have deep emotional investments in this team. But suffice it to say that he's now the CEO of the company I have long admired the most--and, on that basis alone, Mr. Lurie has earned a place in my world. But there's at least a little more to my history with Mr. Lurie and maybe, today being NFL Draft day, some relevant lesson that can be drawn from it as it relates to today's ...

Ricky Williams Applies for Reinstatement
2007-04-09 05:35:00
Ricky Williams Applies for Reinstatement By DAVE GOLDBERG-AP NEW YORK -- Ricky Williams, the former NFL star who played in Canada last season after being suspended for a year for substance abuse, has applied for reinstatement. Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, said the running back, who will turn 30 in May, had sent a letter asking that he be allowed to return to the Miami Dolphins. The NFL confirmed that Williams had sought reinstatement, for which he will be eligible after April 27, when he will have been suspended for a year. Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said the team had no comment because Williams is not yet eligible for reinstatement. Williams, a former Heisman Trophy winner at Texas, was originally drafted by New Orleans when then-coach Mike Ditka gave up all his picks in the 1999 draft to get his rights. He was traded to Miami for two first-round...
