At least thats what we thought, but erm we were wrong, quite wrong… The city is quite developed like most parts of Europe, but unlike most parts of Europe it doesn’t share the same prices, prices in Riga are a lot higher that most cities in Europe, being comparable to London and Paris for prices of drinks and eating out. This was quite a shock for most of us, but we still managed to enjoy ourselves and have a real good time. Non senza qualche difficoltà alla frontiera con le Guardie di Finanza, siamo finalmente giunti nella città lariana.Ecco il festeggiato Riga col fido Salvadè, durante l'antipasto.Ed ecco la pioda davanti a me e Ceppi ricoperta di carne fumante. Veramente ottima la birra prodotto nel Birrificio. In immagine una delle tre colonne che abbiamo filtrato.Dopo la cena, piccolo giro turistico per le vie comasche. No point checking out the screen everyday only to be more stressed out.My family have not traveled for a while and nothing makes my wife happier than going for a holiday, no matter how short the trip. 2007-07-14 13:50:00 One ferry ride later and Im in my first stop, good old Riga!I took the overnight ferry from Stockholm last night, the old rust bucket Regina Baltica, the smaller, less impressive of Tallinks Baltic fleet. as you can see above, 5pm leaving Stockholm harbour is quite the afternoon rush. Our boat may be small, cramped and crap but this floating RSL always serves up a few fun moments, its a great mix of cultures, swedish, english, latvian and LOTS of crazy russians, although the fact that most people went through the EU line at customs tell me they are mostly Russian Latvians. I don?t know if it?s worth 5 million quid, but it is astonishingly good, all translucency and shimmer and early, yawning, quiet atmosphere rendered in washy paint. I?m proud of the great British public for getting off their normally lazy fat arses to save something of some worth for the good of our artless, godless and hopeless children. They?ve got a whole exhibition of Rigi paintings, sketches and other Turner stuff until 25th march. Recommended! 5 stars!! Etc etc. While you're there you can also see Mark Wallinger's recreation of Brian Haw's anti-war protest, before it was so callously and cynically dismanteld at 3am by the fuzz. And once you're done you can walk round the corner and see the empty plinth in Victoria Gardens where Rodin's "Burghers of Calais" normally sits. It's quite a plinth.
