New Concept Car: Rinspeed E2
2009-02-26 15:11:00
It seems the engineers at crazy Swiss firm Rinspeed have turned their attention to the environment. Not only will the all-electric, body-morphing iChange wow the crowds at Geneva – it will be joined by another innovative concept called the E2.Based on the high-powered Abarth 500 esseesse, but with most of the scorpion decals removed and a copper paint job added, the E2 offers two distinct engine settings. There’s a choice between the full-fat 158bhp and 40.4mpg in ‘Highway’ mode, or at the touch of a button power is limited to just 59bhp for a special ‘Commuting’ setting – boosting fuel efficiency to an incredible 70.5mpg. The E2 remains a concept at this stage, but it’s an idea that could soon catch on with customers demanding for their cars to be fun and frugal at the same time. The Rinspeed sQuba
2008-03-01 15:01:00
Michael Bhm, the English Courtesan salutes you! Not just because of your name, though it did raise a chortle here, for reasons which would be impossible to explain politely to a Swiss German. No, tickled as she was by Mister Bhm's monicker, what's caught the English Courtesan eye is a fabulous new motor car called the Rinspeed sQuba. The petrolheads amongst the English Courtesan?s cliterati will no doubt have spotted the Rinspeed sQuba in the headlines for the Geneva Motor Show which is on from 6th to 16th March 2008. Those of the readers who have yet to acquaint themselves with the lovely Mister Bhm (the English Courtesan should hasten to add, before she causes any marital strife, that she?s in that very position herself), should know that he?s the man who set up Rinspeed, the company behind the new sQuba car. The company now has a new CEO called Frank M. Rinderknecht but that?s not as funny so the English Courtesan will stick to Mister Bhm. As it were? ;-)Now with a name li...

Rinspeed build a submersible convertible
2008-02-15 12:43:00
Have you ever had dreams of being like James Bond, driving a white Lotus into the sea? Well this dream has been made a reality by Swiss design company Rinspeed. Their Squba is so far a one-off experiment to create a car that performs as well underwater as it does on the roads. This is done by electric power which removes the need for an air supply and cuts emissions to zero. The amphibious convertible has three electric motors. One drives the wheels and a further two power a pair of propellors at the rear. At the front are two Seabob jet drives which control the vehicle underwater.Unfortunately, being a convertible the driver does not share Mr Bond's cocooned comfort and must use a scuba mask for an air supply. The Squba makes it's debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

2008 Porsche Cayenne X-treme by Rinspeed
2008-01-08 08:54:00
The Swiss company Rinspeed, also renown as a noble Porsche tuner, can look back to thirty years of tradition and now presents its latest customizing program based on the face-lifted Porsche Cayenne. The latest creation of the Swiss is called X-treme which is specially high-lighted by the sporty and dynamic aerodynamics package. It plays the latest Cayenne outstandingly to the gallery and fits to all model versions. The complete new frontskirt/bumper impresses by its aggressive and distinctive visual appearance. Bigger air-intakes with fins as well as a front splitter with its own brake aeration award the Rinspeed X-treme a proprietary and typical look. Beefy wheel arches let the sporty SUV appear to be much wider and more dynamic. The side skirts snug elegantly into the existing side lines and connect homogenously the wide wheel arches. The rear skirt has received a difusor which diminishes the down force significantly. The two rear chrome exhaust tips are the high-light of the back...
New Concept Car: Rinspeed Squba
2007-12-25 14:52:00
Those wacky Swiss concept car makers at Rinspeed are at it again, this time with a creation called the 'sQuba' - the world's first real diving car. Scheduled to be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March, the car 'looks almost like it just came out of a James Bond movie', according to the press release.Though the fact that it can (allegedly) travel up to 10 meters under water, the concept itself is not cutting edge design in aesthetic terms. Instead it looks like a modified version of Lotus's Elise, or the Tesla all-electric sports coupe, albeit with some gills on the front fenders and shark fins around the B-pillar thrown in for good measure. The light weight body is made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tube components which enclose the driver and passenger and supplies them with fresh breathing air through a self-contained on-board system. Still, it makes you wonder what an under water-going vessel is doing with a targa top. While on dry land, the vehicle propels itself autonomou...

2008 Geneva Motor Show:Rinspeed sQuba Concept
2007-12-21 14:37:00
Rinspeed sQuba Concept car, claimed to be the world’s  first real diving car, is set to unveil at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, 6th to 16th March, 2008. Rinspeed is a Swiss automobile manufacturer, and its boss- Frank M. Rinderknecht, said that the “sQuba” symbolizes the realization of a long-cherished dream from the James Bond film “The spy who loved me”. The Rinspeed sQuba Concept does not only capable to be driven on the road, but it will also be able to dive up to 10 meters (33 feet) depth. The Rinspeed sQuba is powered with an electric motor with powerful torque. With the help of two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow, propel the vehicle under water while diving. The driver and passenger are enclosed with Carbon Nano Tubes enclosure and meanwhile fresh breathing air is supplied by the self-contained on-board system. You might also be...
Rinspeed sQuba Concept Car features dive and drive
2007-12-19 19:21:00
Mover Q your amphibious car designs are redundant, maybe they were good enough for the previous spies but the next-gen demands a more synced-up version. In case you need to take pointers, make sure you are there at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th thru 16th, 2008), where Swiss design company Rinspeed will showcase their sQuba Concept Car. The makers claim that it is the world's first real diving car. And if its aquatic feats were not enough, the car can (at the push of a button) drive autonomously. It can dive to the depth of up to 10 meters (33 feet). The "sQuba" fulfills Rinspeed's boss Frank M. Rinderknecht long cherished dream of creating something that marries fictitious movie concepts to reality. Thus taking inspiration from "The spy who loved me", sQuba features an electric motor with powerful torque that drives the rear wheels. The thrust on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propel the vehicle under water while diving...

2008 Geneva Motor Show: Rinspeed sQuba Concept
2007-12-18 13:06:00
While all the concern given to the Corvette ZR1s, Hyundai Geneses and Ford F-150s as the 2008 Detroit Auto Show approaching, wacky Swiss aftermarket tuner Rinspeed continues its contrarian tack by releasing this sketch of its next concept car --a zero-emission machine capable of diving, which will make world debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor show in March.Yep, diving. This automotive equivalent of Greg Louganis, promises the Swiss company, would be capable of going further than any amphicar in the past, if it ever were produced, by not only surfing the waves, but submarining under them.Rinspeed says the sQuba concept has been drawn around the idea of driving on roads, then--at the push of a button--converting the sQuba into an amphibious vehicle capable of diving into water as deep as 33 feet.It doesn't seem like a good idea on paper, but the Rinspeed crew outfits its concept with an electric motor (zap!), which sends torque to drive the rear wheels. Two propellers and two jet drives ...

Early look: Rinspeed sQuba concept
2007-12-18 00:23:00
Early look: Rinspeed sQuba concept Rinspeed has released images — although not truly realistic — of its sQuba concept ahead of the car's 2008 Geneva Motor Show debut in March. Known for over-the-top concepts, the latest Rinspeed concept is no exception. The Swiss company hails the sQuba as the "world's first real diving car" as it is capable of diving to depths of 33 feet. On land, the sQuba is powered by an electric motor that sends its power to the rear wheels. Once in the water, propulsion is provided by two propellers and a pair of jet drives. A self-contained on-board air system provides the driver and passenger with oxygen when the sQuba is submerged. No other details were released about the car. Like the majority of Rinspeed's creations, there are no plans to put the sQuba into production.

Swiss Tuner Rinspeed Rolls Out Cocoon-Like "Sensosphere"
2007-06-26 19:41:00
When Rinspeed introduced the Senso concept car at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show, it showed off a Zen-like vehicle that exerted a "positive effect" on passengers through the use of patterns, colors, music and aromatherapy. Now the Swiss tuner has taken some of the lessons learned with the Senso and applied them to postmodern aircraft cabins.Rinspeed on Monday introduced its "Sensosphere" for airplanes, a concept developed in partnership with Strahle & Hess, Lumitec and the University of Zurich. The goal was to move away from "clinical and plastic" aircraft interiors into an elaborate sensory cocoon that puts a premium on mood lighting, fragrances and sound. The Sensosphere uses high-tech, computer-controlled surfaces that shine green, blue or orange. Rinspeed showed off images of the Sensosphere mimicking a sunset or a starry night inside an airplane cabin. Rinspeed said "the material can be made into any shape and does not need electric bulbs or LEDs." Instead, it uses what is descr...

Rinspeed releases 997 Turbo-based Le Mans 600
2007-05-01 14:00:00
As the gap between rich and poor becomes more pronounced, so does the gulf between the fastest and not-so-fastest cars. The latest entrant in the go faster stakes is Rinspeed, which has done a number on the 997 Turbo. Called the LeMans 600, the car bundles 600 hp and 590 lb-ft into the already fast-as-blue-blazes Porsche. Two VTG turbos combine with a ram-air intake system, new intercoolers, and a high performance exhaust to provide the added grunt. With the power of the earth's core behind its rear wheels, the car gets to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds, and goes 213 mph.
