2008-05-19 10:12:00
What a great weekend! I spent Saturday at a picnic in Seward Park for a friend who just graduated from law school (congrats, Athena) and d*mn was it nice. Hope your weekend was enjoyable as well — whether you spent it at Seward, Woodland sans buffalo, or wherever. Here come two postcards from Woodland Park ...
Where the Buffalo may roam?
2008-05-07 02:33:00
When I think of the American plains, I imagine the sweet grasses blowing in the wind, and the wild Buffalo roaming with their herds. The Buffalo are most Sacred to my people. They were placed here for some very good reasons, as they spread the seeds and fertilized the land. Once they provided food and ...
GTA Free roam, oh yeah!
2008-04-27 20:16:00
As you can imagine, the reviews are starting to poor in now for GTA IV and many are 10/10. Eurogamer’s contribtion matches this award, and as a British written gaming blog, I tend to like their write ups. Here is a snippet about Multiplayer that interested me: Then by pulling up your mobile phone, you can select multiplayer. Via a lobby system that allows you to form teams and check out other players’ details, you set up games that apply old norms and GTA-skewed derivatives to the game’s fabulous open world. In a world of lock-ons, with weapon spawn-points on the mini-map, regular and team deathmatch come down to knowledge of the terrain, which is only acquired through persistence, but the team-based Cops n’ Crooks, where one team starts on foot, escorting a VIP to an escape point while the cops spawn in a police cruiser and try to chase them down, is an instant hit, and others like GTA Race are more than they sound. With guns and rocket launchers, bad losers...

And because we’re dedicated to bringing you game-changing new Burnout Paradise content all year, bikes will feature their own game modes, challenges and even some new locations tailored to fit their unique performance and handing characteristics. The other big news relating to bikes is that we’ve introduced night-time to Burnout Paradise for the first time. We wanted to clear the traffic out a little to give you the chance to learn how to ride in safety, and we’ve always wanted to cruise the streets of Paradise City with incredible night-time visuals [Source: CriterionGames] Now this game has obvioulsy been built with DLC and Updates in mind. I say full marks to Criterion. The Davis update is due late July 08

First Cursed to Roam the Earth as a Wraith, and Now This?

Eleven comments? Really? You know, Grundir's mental state was fragile enough when all he had to worry about was coping with an eternal living death and learning the ins and outs of scrap-booking. He makes the effort to do a solid post, taking on two very fierce-looking memes, baring his soul in the process, and you reward him with a meager eleven comments? How do you think it makes Grundir feel, knowing that my post about giving people the finger got nearly three times as many comments as he did? Dispatching memes has always been a nice outlet for him, but now I'll be lucky if I can get him to come back next week to finish off the rest of them. He's been sulking in the barn since last night. He thinks you're all laughing at him about the Angela's Ashes thing. I'm telling you, he puts on a bold front, but deep down he's a sensitive soul.I even promised to scalp a hobbit for him (relax, we bludgeon them first), but so far he hasn't shown any interest. It's just not like...

Emus on the Roam
2007-10-11 09:25:00
As I mentioned in the last post, I've recently had the opportunity to visit the Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, NSW. I took lots of photos (800+), so I've got lots of pics to post on this blog. For the first picture, I've chosen a subject that is uniquely Australian - an Emu.The Western Plains Zoo has a good setup for photographing the animals. Instead of planting 8-foot fences between the people and animals, there is a sort of moat-and-wall arrangement, where you effectively stand on a mound of earth which puts you level with the top of the fence. This gives you a clear line of sight to the animals, which is great for photosThese emus were quite inquisitive, coming right to the edge of the "fence" to get their photos taken. With 10x zoom, I was able to get some good close-ups of the emus' heads. The photo above shows a head-on view of the emu, while the photo below portrays the bird from the side. Both of these photos seem to portray a sense of action and alertness, as if the emu ...

2007-09-25 06:15:00
After complaining about Ads prompted to user after listening to a conversation over VoIP it's users got for free, I see that another service based on advertisements have come to be alive. Blyk today announced the it's ad funded mobile network mainly targeted towards 16-24 year olds. The service is currently a invitation only and limited to United Kingdom. Blyk has built a service around what young people want and need ? free communication, ease of use and relevant messages from brands. Blyk has developed its offer by finding out what its members consider most valuable ? this will evolve over time as their needs do.Blyk allows advertisers to reach young people using the only channel that they carry with them everywhere. iPhone accidental roaming charges rack up $5k bill

Something tells me there’ll be a whole lot of people very surprised when their AT&T iPhone bills drop into the letterbox.  For a start, it might not be the envelope you’re expecting but, like JustinTV’s Justine Ezarik, a great bloody box full of three hundred pages of itemised goodness.  Or, alternatively, you might get another ...
Grupo Rana Baila Centro Americano Centroamericano philosophy
2007-08-12 09:41:00
One of the most beautiful times in my life was when I taught ESL at Elizabeth Learning Center (whatever happened to just plain "school") in the tiny Los Angeles suburb of Cudahy. I not only enjoyed teaching, but I enjoyed talking with my students on everything from women to politics. But, the Army called my number and I had to leave. I miss them. Anyways, most of the students were from Central America (El Salvador, predominantly, of those) and Cumbia is the most popular rhythm in those parts. Coincidentally, a Cumbia/Central American themed radio station briefly graced the Los Angeles airwaves at this same time and, during its operation, became my favorite spot on the dial. They'd often play this song (called Baila Centroamericano I learned later). I loved that song, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I tried internet searches, interrogating my students, P2P programs, and even went so far as to call the radio station. They told me it was from Grupo Rana. So, I drive around Los Ang...

Share on StumbleUpon: A bone-cracking, flesh-shredding wolf with massive teeth and a broad head thrived in Alaska until 12,000 years ago, according to a paper published today in Current Biology. The ancient wolf's enhanced ability to bite likely enabled it to compete with other formidable Alaskan predators at the time, such as saber-tooth cats, short-faced bears and lions. From the exterior it looked like modern gray wolves, but not quite.

My friends and I talk about the differences in the amount of freedoms we were allowed and how “overprotective†we all feel because we can’t let our children ride their bikes all day long, or play with friends for hours without a search and rescue team being called. The world seems much more dangerous than when I was growing up. But, is it really? Or is it that now that I am a certified “adult†I watch the news for several hours a day; and, this in turn feeds my worries about my son’s safety.... [[ This is a content summary only. Pakistan: Sharia gangs roam streets of capital city to enforce their law wi
2007-04-19 15:56:00
(Timesonline).- Shiraz Ahmed was tending his music store in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, when a group of 15 bearded young men walked in bearing bamboo poles and a chilling message. Politely but firmly, they instructed him to take down the colourful array of Bollywood and bhangradance tunes on display and to restrict his business to Islamic music. Until last week he might not have worried about these men from Islamabad’s Lal Masjid (Red Mosque). After all, his shop is legal and within walking distance of Pervez Musharraf’s presidential palace. But this was just one of several signs in the past ten days that a creeping campaign to “Talebanise†Pakistan has spread from tribal areas on the Afghan border right to the heart of the capital. More
