Robert Fisk in Kandahar, Afghanistan
2008-11-20 11:24:00
Things don't look so good.Fisk is a great writer, and even where I disagree with his POV, his analysis is generally right on the money. He's one of our finest foreign correspondents writing in English today. The Taliban are winning, at least in Kandahar. The Afghan "Army" leaves the Kandahar streets by 4 PM every day. The Afghan Police are lethargic and barely even check passengers anymore at the Kandahar Airport.Everyone is against the occupation and the extremely corrupt and shitty Afghan government, but no one will say a word against the Taliban.Ominously, there are rumblings that indicate that forces other than the Taliban, such as the Taliban's old enemies, may also take up arms against "the foreign occupiers" soon. Fighting the foreign infidel occupiers. In Afghanistan, a tradition as old as dirt.If it's still on sale, check out the latest Rolling Stone, with an article by Israeli expat (now living in the US) journalist Nir Rosen (one of the fast-moving runners' up behind ...
Robert Fisk: The West's weapon of self-delusion
2008-06-09 22:35:00
There are gun battles in Beirut ? and America thinks things are going fine So they are it again, the great and the good of American democracy, grovelling and fawning to the Israeli lobbyists of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac), repeatedly allying themselves to the cause of another... Robert Fisk: Horrors we have no choice but to forget
2008-06-05 01:18:00
I have a clear memory of a terrible crime that was committed in southern Lebanon in 1978. Israeli soldiers, landing at night on the beach near Sarafand ? the city of Sarepta in antiquity ? were looking for "terrorists" and opened fire on a car load of female Palestinian refugees. ... Robert Fisk: Semantics can?t mask Bush?s chicanery
2008-04-14 19:05:00
Sudhan @19:05 CET This goes beyond hollow laughter. Since when did armies go around ‘re-liberating’ Robert Fisk | The Independent, UK, April 12, 2008 After his latest shenanigans, I’ve come to the conclusion that George Bush is the first US president to march backwards. First we had weapons of mass destruction. Then, when they proved to be a ...

Robert Fisk is a liar: President bush denies Holocaust
2007-11-10 21:35:00
In this deranged article filled with the kind of non-sequiturs common in left opinion, Robert Fisk says that Bush is going along with Turkey's insistence that the Armenian genocide was part of a civil war. No, he's not. He's just saying that now isn't the time to antagonize enemies. He's being practical. Here's the beginning: => Read more!
Warning, this film could make you very angry, Robert Fisk
2007-11-03 16:23:00
At university, we male students used to say that it was impossible to take a beautiful young woman to the cinema and concentrate on the film. But in Canada, I've at last proved this to be untrue. Familiar with the Middle East and its abuses – and with the vicious policies of George Bush – we both sat absorbed byRendition, Gavin Hood's powerful, appalling testimony of the torture of a "terrorist

Robert Fisk: Even I question the ?truth? about 9/11
2007-08-25 18:16:00
Anthony @ 17:15 BST Robert Fisk London Independent Saturday, August 25, 2007 Each time I lecture abroad on the Middle East, there is always someone in the audience ? just one ? whom I call the “raver”. Apologies here to all the men and women who come to my talks with bright and pertinent questions ? often quite humbling ...

Robert Fisk needs a rest
2007-07-17 07:03:00
Robert Fisk, the one journalist to trust in the Middle East, is showing signs of some fatigue. Whether it’s from the strain of writing a 1300 page book, or living in city constantly under siege or reporting from the hell on earth, the man seems to be fraying about the edges. As proof, read this article ...
On Being Robert Fisk
2007-05-23 07:52:00
You can almost see his fingers absently peck across the keyboard, each finger going to a familiar place, in familiar order. The most believable reporter in the Middle East is typing what his eyes are seeing ? and have seen, time and time and time and time again. ?There is something obscene about watching the siege ...
