While Greg Maddux is not out of the question, the Braves are more interested in a younger starter they can control for multiple years. One possibly available starter who hasn't gotten much buzz: Nate Robertson. The 30 year-old southpaw hasn't pitched well since '06, and he's signed through 2010. The Mariners will probably talk about Miguel Batista and Jarrod Washburn, but not Erik Bedard. No big surprise there. Both Batista and Washburn are signed through '09. Stark rattles off a bunch of available relievers. Mostly names you'd expect, but click through and take a look. Kei Igawa, signed through 2011, asked the Yankees if they could find a way to ship him back to Japan during the winter. They couldn't find a way to make it work.

One roster spot cleared: Robertson retires
2008-05-28 17:45:00 Remember a couple of days ago when we all pondered who would be cut to make room for the 4 remaining unsigned draft picks? Well the Dolphins have cleared one of the needed roster spots, at least according to the Palm Beach Post. They are reporting that undrafted free agent Kory Robertson will be placed on injured reserve, ending his rookie season before it even starts. The injury is unknown at this point, but Robertson was thought to be in a position to earn a spot on the 53 man roster because of his size (6'4, 345). Now, though, this might actually benefit Paul Soliai, as he has one less body to compete with as a backup nose tackle. This move might also mean that one of the unsigned rookies could be signed in the near future. We shall find out soon enough. [UPDATE] The Palm Beach Post has updated this story. In exchange, the Broncos sent the Jets a conditional pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Broncos also on Thursday waived center Norm Katnik. Robertson (6-foot-1, 310 pounds) is a sixth-year player who joins the Broncos after playing his first five professional seasons with the Jets. New York selected him with the fourth overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft from the University of Kentucky. In 77 career regular-season games (75 starts), Robertson has totaled 319 tackles (188 solo), 14.5 sacks (106 yds.), four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups. I would’ve thought the Denver Post would have a dedicated a whole article to news this big. (That’s what I get for posting right before bed) The next three weeks at Dove Valley will be devoted to the draft. The Broncos have the No. 12 and 42 overall picks on the first day, April 26. On the second day, the Broncos hope to use one of their late-round picks to acquire Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson. It looks like we’re going to be addressing our need at defensive tackle in the draft one way or another. Could this be changing our draft strategy in the early rounds? The team might be addressing skill positions in rounds 1 and 2 by having the team’s certain need in the middle of the defensive line taken care of ahead of the draft.
