Homeschooling discussion at Rockridge Nation
2008-03-31 20:36:00 Eric Haas and our friends over at the Rockridge Institute have a great Monday Weekly Workgroup feature that I encourage everybody to investigate. Today the subject is homeschooling, and that’s obviously one that’s going to matter to a lot of folks here. Several of us at S&R either are or were educators and it’s a topic our readers have demonstrated a good deal of concern for, as well. Eric frames this week’s conversation nicely: In sum, the key is that this accountability encompasses both personal and societal responsibility. We all have a responsibility to provide every child with a level and quality of education so that they are likely to develop into healthy and competent adults?both society and individual parents. This means that there is two-way accountability. Primarily, there is societal accountability ? has the community, usually through the government, provided the infrastructure and policies needed so that students can get a high quality public ...
Why do so many bad ideas seem natural to voting Americans?
2008-03-04 19:23:00 Joe Brewer and George Lakoff have published a new analysis that looks at the importance of “cognitive policy” - the process of constructing the assumptions that underlie actual material policy decisions. For instance: Conservative cognitive policy over many years has resulted in the following ideas being promulgated to the public: Successful wealthy people merit their success. Those who are not successful and wealthy don?t deserve to be. Success is a matter of individual talent and discipline. Social factors do not enter in and government is a hindrance, not a help to this success. Accountability works from the top down; those lower on the hierarchy are accountable to those on top. Hence, the schools, the teachers, and the students are accountable to those political leaders who allot funding to the schools. But political leaders and taxpayers are not accountable for providing adequate funding for teacher salaries, school maintenance, and social factors that affect ed...

2007-12-05 06:30:00 George Lakoff is the brain behind the "Modern Day Progressive Movement." Rockridge Institute: Their Infiltration into Our Nation?s Universities is W
2007-12-03 06:02:00 The last editorial I wrote involved the Rockridge Institute, possibly the most deceitful Far-Left organization in America. Well, it turns out that they have infiltrated our Nation?s Universities to a greater extent than I previously realized. In fact, they admit to doing so, all behind the guise of social science. According to the Rockridge Institute: Their impact is felt in many ways, from... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.
