Rod Smith Comes Home
2008-06-04 18:01:00
I am one happy camper this morning! :) Rod Smith is home - he arrived at Team Camp yesterday. As articles in both USAToday and NFL.com, Smith made it clear that he hasn’t ruled out playing again, but I think reality is setting in for our favorite modern-day Bronco wideout. And while he hasn’t yet ...

Broncos Place Rod Smith on Reserved/Retired
2008-02-15 23:23:00
The latest twist in the tale of Rod Smith rings with heartbreaking finality. The longtime Broncos veteran, who holds every meaningful receiving record for the Broncos, was place on the Reserved/Retired list earlier today. Smith was an integral part of the Broncos’ back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998, also helping the ...
Rod Smith Placed On Reserved/Retired List
2008-02-15 16:15:00
Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith, the club's all-time leader in every major career receiving category and a key member of their back-to-back Super Bowl championship teams, was placed on the Broncos' reserve/retired list on Friday. Smith played all 13 of his professional seasons with the Broncos after joining the team as a college free agent from Missouri Southern University on May 3, 1994, and posted 849 career receptions for 11,389 receiving yards (13.4 avg.) with 68 touchdowns in 183 games (158 starts). His career totals for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns are the most by an undrafted player in NFL history, and he ranks seventh and eighth, respectively, in career games played and started by a Bronco. A three-time Pro Bowl selection (2000-01, '05), Smith currently stands 12th in NFL history in career receptions, 19th in career receiving yards and tied for 31st in career receiving touchdowns. Smith, whose nine-year streak of recording at least 70 recept...

It Could Be The End For Rod Smith
2007-12-28 23:02:00
Rod Smith may have played his last game in the NFL.  We all feared this when the Broncos All-Time leading receiver underwent what amounted to a hip-replacement last off-season, even when the best undrafted free agent to ever play the position made attempt after attempt to come back.  Smith never was able to get on the field in 2007, and now it appears 2008 and beyond are in serious jeopardy as well. It is being reported that Smith needs to undergo another procedure on the troublesome hip, with Smith actually saying the pain in his hip was worse today than before the initial surgery -- Rod Smith needs another operation on his surgically repaired left hip, and his NFL career could be over. The Denver Broncos co-captain revealed Friday he needs another surgery. There's a strong possibility he'll require an artificial hip replacement, which almost certainly would end his 13-year NFL career. "It's hard. Because, honestly, it could be the end of my career. It could be my l...

Now that we can begin talking about 2008, I want to be the first to BEG the future Ring of Famer, HOF contender and all-around Bronoc-for-life captian Rod Smith to stay in the Orange and Blue in 2008. I understand that his WR days are likely over, but that doesn’t mean he can’t become ...
Rod Smith, Now and Forever A Bronco; Thursday Injury Report
2007-11-09 02:31:00
Rod Smith's 2007 season ended officially last week when Shanny announced he wouldn't be ready to play in time to meet the PUP List deadline.  Since then, Rod has been curiously quiet, about his status and that of his struggling football team.  That ended today, and drove the point home once again the Rod Smith is everything that any Denver Bronco or man should strive to be.  Below is his statement -- "It's kind of tough for me right now, knowing last week that I wasn't going to get to finish the regular season as far as getting a chance to play. I have to be realistic; I took something that was a 12-month injury and tried to make it into eight and a half, nine months. It was a grind, and I was basically tearing up my body trying to do it, and everybody -- the staff and everyone -- did everything they could to try to help me get back. "From talking to Mike (Shanahan) yesterday, I still am a part of this football team, no matter what. I'm going to be here every day...

PUP List Won?t Keep Smith from Being Team Captain
2007-09-13 14:31:00
Last week, the Broncos announced their team captains for the season - Jay Cutler, Tom Nalen, John Lynch and Champ Bailey. It appears these four players went to coach Mike Shanahan and told him that there was a name missing from the list. Injured WR Rod Smith belonged among the leaders of the ...
Rod Smith Moved To P-U-P List
2007-08-29 02:48:00
Andrew Mason reported in his special way that WR Rod Smith was officially moved the the Physically Unable to Perform list.  Now, I could explain to you what that means, but why re-invent the wheel that Mase so nicely created for us -- Placement on the PUP list buys him and the Broncos 12 weeks before making a determination whether to move him to the 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve. A player must remain sidelined as PUP for the first six weeks of the regular season. Smith then is eligible to practice for three weeks before a final decision is made -- but the Broncos do not have to make that choice until three weeks after the initial six-week PUP stint concludes. This means the Broncos actually have until Week 12 to determine whether Smith could play before being faced with the choice of moving him to the 53-man roster or injured reserve. The latter option, of course, would end his season. Last year, Domenik Hixon was designated as PUP after a protracted recover...

Quarterback Camp Day 2 -- Rod Smith Speaks
2007-05-18 17:51:00
Day 2 of QB Camp came and went, and judging by most of the articles written by the MSM it appears Rod Smith was the major story.  It is kind of funny to me, how you can tell who and what reporters are given access to by all the similar articles that are written for the next day.   Here are some links to some of the pieces -- Lee Rasizer of the Rocky Mountain News describes the pain Rod Smith has been dealing with for the past three seasons. Tom Kensler of the Denver Post tells us Rod Smith is preparing to be a major force in 2007, or he'll simply walk away. Andrew Mason also took good notes for his BLOG Photo Courtesy to Andrew Mason's Blog Smith has been a true warrior for the Broncos and one of the great success stories.  If you take a look at his career stats, Rod Smith is damn close to the promised land of Canton, OH -- There is no doubt that Smith is close.  He may have enough already.  My opinion is he needs a little more.  If Smith...
