Win Roger Federer, Switzerland tennis player, created history on Sunday, July 5, 2009 when he won the Singles final of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship played in the England Club in London. With this win he has broken former Tennis player Pete Sampras?s record of 14 grand slam wins. He won 15th grand slam of his tennis career and has thus created a history. He defeated US player Andy Roddick in the tough fought final. This final match proved out to be a very long and tough match in which he proved out his metal though the match was fought very closely. Federer won it with 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6 and 16-14. Points tally depicts how the match was evenly balanced even to its last moments. I watched it last night on local channel and FedEx beat Pistol Pete 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5). You might say, "yeah I've figured that!" but really, the score doesn't explained the match.It was spectacular! While the Pittsburgh Steelers are my primary sports focus this time of year, there are other teams that I also closely follow. Unfortunately, most of them are not doing very well. Yesterday, Ithaca College?s football team lost 37-16 against #6 St. John?s Fisher. This loss coupled with last week?s defeat against Hartwick (the Bombers first loss to Hartwick since 1946!) leaves the team only 2-2 and 0-2 in the Empire 8 conference. Things need to change quickly if the Bombers have any chance at reaching the postseason. Another team that has virtually no chance to reach a bowl game is the Pitt Panthers after losing 34-14 at home against the University of Connecticut. Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posting lately, I hope all of you are doing well. :)I would like to highlight a very cool person, and someone I have a tremendous amount of respect for - and that is Roger Federer. If you have been following my weekend posts you know that I am a big fan of Tennis and the US Open.Roger Federer is a 26 year old Swiss tennis champ, by winning the 2007 US Open, Federer became the only player in the open era to win the US Open 4 straight times; he is now tied with Roy Emerson with 12 Grand Slam titles, only 2 behind Pete Sampras, who has the all time Grand Slam singles titles record with 14. With this win, Federer also became the only man to have won three of four Grand Slam singles tournaments in the same year three times, repeating his achievements of 2004, 2006 and 2007.On April 2006, Federer was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF.
