2007 Year In Review
2007-12-23 19:10:00 Here we go! With MMA gaining so much momentum over the past few years, UFC has debuted a three hour show of the UFC?s BEST of 2007,taking a look back at the most exciting fights of the past year. The UFC continues to be consistent by offering great PPVs, free events, and their blockbuster show, "The Ultimate Fighter." I will review the UFC?s BEST of 2007, giving you insight and my thoughts on the fights. Now let?s get to the knock down, drag out year that was 2007. An article by Don DavenportTyson Griffin vs. Frankie EdgarUFC 67: ALL OR NOTHING February 3, 2007 Both fighters exchanged punches early, feeling each other out and eventually leading to a clinch. Edgar faked a takedown and landed some punches which lead to a takedown of Griffin. Griffin attempted a guillotine choke which Edgar managed to escape and gain side control. Griffin got out of side control and slammed Edgar down hard. Both fighters wrestled back to the feet where Edgar dominated with strikes, and then Edgar got ...

There aren't any standout values on this card except perhaps Tommy Speer at +120. Another relatively safe bet is to forgo picking a winner in Huerta vs Guida and take the over/under to go past 2.5 rounds.Main Event:Clay Guida (-115) vs. Roger Huerta (-115)The question is can Guida win a decision over the Mexican poster boy? Yes, but I don't think he will.Roger Huerta may not have fought the names Clay has, but he is 5-0 in the UFC and he finis...
UFN 12: Clay Guida vs Roger Huerta Odds Widen
2007-11-28 21:48:00 The moneyline for this fight was set about 3 weeks ago around -115 for Huerta and -120 for Guida. Now the money has swung significantly in favor of Clay Guida with the odds now spread to -155 Guida / +125 Huerta (BetUS). I see solid value in a bet on Huerta at +115 on up.Clay Guida, plain and simple, is 2/2 in the UFC. He shows tremendous pace and technical skill, BUT, he has not shown the ability to finish high level fighters. Guida should not be the favorite in this fight. Guida's last three fights went to decision and although the fights were exciting and fun to watch he never had his opponents in serious trouble. Clay has a solid submission game but it's not good enough to finish Huerta, his standup is also good but it's mostly defense and counter striking. Clay's biggest strength has been his wrestling and ability to avoid being controlled on the ground, That won't be enough to win against an equally skilled wrestler with good submission defense.Roger Huerta may not have f...
From Street Begger to UFC Main Event Fighter - Roger Huerta
2007-10-10 17:24:00 Sports Illustrated Magazine recently interviewed UFC Fighter Roger Huerta before his upcoming main event fight against Clay Guida at Ultimate Fight Night. Roger has a heart warming story of the struggles he faced growing up. From having a drug addicted father, to being a child street beggar, to being unwanted by partners, Huerta has his fair share of life struggles. Sport Illustrated does an excellent job stepping us through the life of Roger Huerta, working its way into how he got involved in mma: “Huerta had entered some amateur matches and then, on a lark, fought in a professional no-holds-barred bout at a ballroom in Medina, Minn. This was precisely the kind of illogical thrill-seeking that appeals to college freshmen. But in addition to winning the fight, he had experienced a surge of adrenaline he’d never felt before. Mixed martial arts-a marriage of the “striking” of boxing and kickboxing with the “ground game” of jujitsu and wre...

I Double Dog Bet You
2007-08-21 03:45:00 There are a couple of dog bets on this card that if made together have some value. I don't think both of them will happen, but I do think at least one will and the odds are good enough to take both bets to lighten your exposure.Don't take these as straight picks, this bet is based on two fighters being very over valued right now. The first is Roger Huerta, the second is Joe Stevenson. Both of these fighters have been put to the test several times and have also found great popularity. Most of the betting public is looking well past these two fights simply believing they are up against lesser competition. Suffice it to say I think the odds should be much closer on these two fights. So without the usual fight analysis, here's the bet with the best lines. I'm splitting a single bet evenly between these two lines.Kurt Pelligrino +260 (Sportsbook)Alberto Crane +350 (Bodog)This is definitely a risky bet so as always risk what you are willing to lose. You wanna make a bet.... |
