Revelation 17
2008-04-16 18:17:00 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, ?Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on ...

Catholic Superstition
2008-04-12 09:53:00 Catholicism seems to lend itself well to superstition. Reference the St. Joseph statue. A Catholic bookstore near my house sells these little novelty statues of St. Joseph with instructions that if you bury it on the property that you’re trying to sell, it will beseech St. Joseph to help the sale along. Two articles ...
Understanding Roman Catholicism
2008-04-02 04:41:00 Product Description Written by a former Catholic, this book quotes 37 main Catholic doctrines from the 1994 Catechism of the Catholic Church, then compares each one with the King James Bible. Every time, Catholic doctrine contradicts the Word of God.As a reference tool, this book will help you quickly find any Catholic doctrine, and Scriptures that refute it. It clearly shows that the Catholic

The "Name That Verse" Game
2008-04-02 03:38:00 Heard this just this morning on Way of the Master Radio. Todd Friel (TF): “The pope (John Paul II) might be beatified and canonized and become a saint. Made me think of a Bible verse. Dave is in Texas, on KDKR. Dave? Can you name that verse, sir?” Dave: “I’m thinking it’s John 11:35.” TF: “Which is?” Dave: “Jesus ...

Returning To Mother
2008-04-01 02:44:00 Since my wife’s testimony was posted, I’ve met a few well-meaning people who have encouraged me to take a good, hard look again at how my opposition to the Mother was in error. And I must say that, after much consideration and study, I agree with them. Hence, it is our wish to now state that we’ll ...

Shocked, Speechless, And Praising God
2008-03-26 18:00:00 When Karen and I knew that we were to trust the Lord on His purpose for giving her such a heavy heart until she wrote her testimony down, we had no idea what the purpose(s) would be, and how He would surprise us. We just saw that Christian Research Network (CRN) highlighted her testimony… I was ...

In Search Of Signs And Wonders
2008-03-17 16:43:00 Recently in India, as many as 50 people in Kottayam district went blind after staring at the sun for a prolonged period of time looking for an image of the “Virgin Mary”. Believing in false signs and wonders can be dangerous and even detrimental to one’s health as evidenced in the story. Yet throughout generations, man ...

Fifth Marian Dogma Letter
2008-02-23 05:56:00 Five Roman Catholic Cardinals have written a letter to the other members of the College of Cardinals urging additional support in the form of signatures asking Pope Benedict XVI to define the fifth and final Marian dogma. The suggested wording is thus: Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of man, gave to humanity from the Cross his mother ...
Preview of this Friday?s Show
2008-02-14 03:56:00 My podcast this Friday will be on how the Bible elevates women. The Pope has spoken on this controversial topic as well, according to Catholic News Agency. See the article here. The Pope agrees with me: Criticizing male chauvinism, discrimination against women, and the undervaluation of women, he called for Christians to promote ?a culture that ...
No Rain
2008-02-13 07:00:00 Sorry, but you aren’t seeing any new posts of interest because it’s been a dry spell so far, and I’ve got nothing to say. Guess it’s a reprieve for some, and a groan of disappointment from others (hopefully there are some out there). I’ve got some topics lined up, but somehow the ability to write has ...

How God Identifies Himself
2008-02-11 21:25:00 It?s interesting how God defines himself. He told Moses that he is the God of your fathers; the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He did not define himself by his omnipotence or his omniscience but by his personal relationships with these common men. (source) So reflects Albert Cardinal Vanhoye, ...
Dave Armstrong and the Visible Church, part 2
2008-01-18 09:16:00 I should note before continuing with this series that I agree with Dave Armstrong that a visible church is spoken of in Scripture. I disagree with some of the evidence that he has offered–for example, applying Matthew 5:14-16 to the church rather than to the obedience of people. Overall, though, Dave and I ...
Dave Armstrong and the Visible Church, part 1
2008-01-17 05:40:00 Dave Armstrong has a rather fascinating article on whether or not the church should be a visible or invisible entity. I thought I’d take a look at it as an exercise in putting Bible verses in proper context. Most Protestants (especially evangelicals) see unity and oneness subsisting primarily or solely in the inner, invisible, spiritual ...
Steve Ray and Baptism
2008-01-16 08:12:00 Steve Ray has an interesting post about being born of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5). He lists nine places in the Bible where water and the Spirit represent new birth, and then concludes: Too bad many Evangelicals and Fundamentalists refuse to see it but the Bible is pretty clear about new birth through the sacrament of ...
Bethlehem Or Nazareth?
2007-12-17 08:29:00 It appears that the Vatican has done it again, i.e. changed what is clearly stated in the Bible, God’s Word, to something else at their whim and fancy. This time, it has to do with where our Lord Jesus Christ was at His birth. Now, I don’t care much for putting up the Christmas tree or nativity ...

How To Cut The Queue In Purgatory
2007-12-06 19:30:00 Take a trip to Lourdes during the “special offer” period starting this weekend till December 8, 2008, says Pope Benedict XVI. This piece of news had me both laughing and shaking my head in disbelief (yes, I can do both at the same time!). Yet, on the other hand, it also saddened me to know that ...

Brief Response to Kelly, or An Overview of Living by the Spirit
2007-12-05 07:40:00 Deus Caritas Est (25 Dec 2005) Spe Salvi (30 Nov 2007) I’m acting as secretary for the Vatican. See, I hate to read long articles while sitting at my computer screen. So I try to print them out if I can. The Vatican’s website didn’t have a very printable version of the ...
New Hymn to Mary?
2007-12-02 09:26:00 Now I really can’t wait to read the new encyclical from Pope Benedict XVI. Apparently, there is a new hymn to Mary: At the conclusion of his encyclical released today, Pope Benedict honored Mary as our model of hope and asked for her intercession in showing us the way to the Father. Using a title for Mary used for ...
Pope Benedict Releases New Encyclical
2007-12-02 09:21:00 The pope has released a new encyclical entitled Spe Salvi, which is a theological reflection upon hope. Here is the summary (another one here) from Catholic News Agency. I am going to read the entire document and comment as soon as I get time. For now, the Pope’s introduction interests me: According to the Christian faith, ...
Infallibly Defined: Four Lists, Some Agreement **UPDATED**
2007-11-21 10:27:00 It amazes me that the Catholic Church defines teachings infallibly, yet fails to leave a convenient list somewhere that tells us what has been infallibly taught. Steve Ray has posted four lists of infallibly defined Bible verses. One list contains 15 verses, while the other lists contain between 5 and 7 verses. ...

2007-05-28 06:09:00 Author: Eric Subject: Catholic TerminologyPosted: Mon May 28, 2007 12:09 am (GMT -4) Catholic Terminology This list of terms used by the Catholic church is brief and succinct. It should help those who are learning about Catholicism and who desire to be conversant with Catholics on their terms. 1. Absolution - the act of releasing someone from their sin by God, through the means of a priest. 2. Actual grace - God's interventions, whether at the beginning of conversion or in the course of the work of sanctification. 3. Actual sin - any sin that a person commits. 4. Annunciation - When the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was to be the mother of the Messiah. 5. Assumption - the taking of the body and soul of Mary, by God, into glory. Catholic doctrine, apparently, does not state whether or not Mary died, but tradition holds that she died and was immediately afterward assumed into heaven both body and soul. 6. Baptism - One of seven sacraments that takes away origin...

2007-03-02 15:31:01 Author: Eric Subject: The Apocrypha Posted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 11:07 pm (GMT -5) The apocrypha consists of a set of books written between approximately 400 B.C. and the time of Christ. The word "apocrypha" (απόκρ-υφα) means "Hidden." These books consist of 1 and 2 Esdras, Tobit, Judith, the Rest of Esther, the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, (also titled Ecclesiasticus), Baruch, The Letter of Jeremiah, Song of the Three Young Men, Susanna, Bel and the Dragon, The Additions to Daniel, The Prayer of Manasseh, and 1 and 2 Maccabees. The Protestant Church rejects the apocrypha as being inspired, as do the Jews, but in 1546 the Roman Catholic Church officially declared some of the apocryphal books to belong to the canon of scripture. These are Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees Wisdom of Solomon Sirach (also known as Ecclesiasticus), and Baruch. The apocryphal books are written in Greek, not Hebrew (except for Ecclesiasticus, 1...

2007-03-02 15:31:01 Author: Eric Subject: Why is it necessary to write about Roman Catholicism? Posted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 11:06 pm (GMT -5) Why is it necessary to write about Roman Catholicism? It is necessary to write a page on Roman Catholicism because there are significant differences between Protestant and Roman Catholic doctrines. Protestants accuse the Catholics of being unscriptural and the Catholics state that the Protestants do not have the true faith carried through the centuries by the Catholic Church. Which ever side you fall on, the real issue is whether or not the Roman Catholic Church is representing true Christianity. If you are a Roman Catholic, please understand that this site is not meant to offend you in any way. This site is dedicated to examining the truth, all truth, and compare it to the Bible. No matter who it is or what group is proclaiming truth, we know that the Bible is the Word of God and that no truth from God will contradict it. I urge you to examine what is here...
Philosophy, Religion, & Theology :: Roman Catholicism
2007-03-02 15:31:01 Author: Eric Subject: Roman Catholicism Posted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 10:56 pm (GMT -5) Roman Catholicism Dave Hunt Last month, in relation to the shocking rise of anti-Semitism among Christians, we referred to the incredible claim by the Reconstructionists that Christ's promise to "come again" was fulfilled when "He came" in a.d.70 in the person of the Roman armies to destroy Jerusalem and slaughter the Jewish inhabitants of Palestine. In fact they claim that the entire Olivet Discourse - Matt 24-25 - and all of the prophecies in Revelation - except for Rev 20:4-22:21 - were fulfilled at a.d.70. This particular theory was invented in the early 1600s by a Jesuit named Alcasar to counter the Reformers' claim that the Roman Catholic Church was the "great whore...mystery babylon" sitting on the beast in Revelation 17. In a stroke of genius, Alcasar realized that if he could establish the theory that Revelation had all been fulfilled by a.d.70, th... |
