2008-05-06 17:00:00 A famous old dead playwright once wrote,”Comedy is nothing, but tragedy differed”. Please dont mind my indifference;to the local news of judges (un)restored,or staying at their present creace,as i dont want to indulge in something i cannot change. As for my comedy,i dont keep track of my jokes. I,along with many other wise cracks often wonder, mostly with awe, that with ...
Theodore Roosevelt and the Spanish-American War
2008-05-05 17:08:00 Theodore Roosevelt, who arguably accomplished more than any other American man, called his experience in the Spanish-American War, “the great day of my life.” It was during his charge up Kettle Hill that Theodore Roosevelt’s leadership and confidence finally crystallized. He passed the test and emerged as a leader capable of ascending to the presidency. His actions during the war impart crucial lessons on manly leadership: 1. Walk the Walk. Theodore Roosevelt was a sickly child who grew up reading of ancient battles and warriors and longing to be one. He built up his body and as he got older started writing his own books about military feats. Yet he still longed to see action firsthand, and when the opportunity finally arrived, he wasted no time in seizing it. As soon as the Spanish-American War broke out, Teddy pestered the Secretary of the Navy for a commission in the army. He then sold his cattle ranch and some of his possessions, and took out life ...

The Roosevelt Myth by John T. Flynn
2008-03-21 22:52:00 Franklin D. Roosevelt is the most sainted president of the 20th century. You have to look far and wide to discover the truth about his character and policies. But as John T. Flynn noted in this landmark 1948 volume, FDR actually prolonged the Great Depression and deliberately dragged the country into a war that seriously compromised American liberties.

Eleanor Roosevelt speaketh
2008-01-28 01:02:00 I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he fears to do...No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.Those who attack always do so with greater fervor than those who defend.I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity. No man is defeated without until he has first been defeated within.Friendship with oneself is all important because without it one cannot be friends with anybody else in the world.
Do one thing every day that scares you - Eleanor Roosevelt
2008-01-16 12:14:00 Remember the 'Sunscreen song'?It has Eleanor Roosevelt's quote 'Do one thing every day that scares you' in it - besides other good advice. It is not easy to do something that scares you - let alone doing such a thing every day. That is why Jessie started the Be Brave project. Making such a commitment is already a brave thing. What if you're at home and there is nothing really brave to do? Where does she get the inspiration for her brave actions? I will ask her and let you know.

Presidential health: Roosevelt?s final illness
2008-01-16 10:31:00 With both Mayor Guilliani and Fred Thompson having a history of cancer, the problems of presidential health should be part of the discussion of who should be elected president. The Theodore Roosevelt Theorum
2007-11-15 14:10:00 My new poker philosophy is summarized in seven beautiful words from our nation's 26th president: "Speak softly and carry a big stick."I am becoming convinced that in order to be a truly dominant player, one must separate himself entirely from the face values of his cards. After all, you aren't playing "cards," are you? The kind of people that fall in love with face cards, small pairs, and suited connectors are the same ones who become endeared to a game they don't understand. And that is the beauty of the beast, the fact that obvious amateurs will show no desire to learn or improve, yet will continue to open their wallets to play in a game they think they can compete in. It's as if a 5'9'' 160 lb. man with an ego issue decided to pay a couple grand to step onto the field in an NFL game. He has no idea what he's getting himself into. But what's truly beautiful is that the amateurs don't get their heads kicked in with such consistency that they want to quit playing poker- no...

Poll: Carter/Reagan babies vs. Hoover/Roosevelt ones
2007-03-09 18:00:01 A new Field Poll (pdf) finds that Californians who were born in the '70s and '80s are more than twice as likely to be supportive of same-sex unions than are those who were born before the 1940s. Also, for the most part, the poll shows that with every passing decade of birth comes increased acceptance, suggesting that gay marriage acceptance will grow exponentially as the population ages. In a related story, we just caught word that voting booths pose a direct risk for many terrible diseases for those 65 years of age and older. So just to be on the safe side, you might just wanna stay home during future elections, elderly friends. While individual attitude changes are partly responsible for the rise in support for same-sex marriage in California over the past 20 years, most of the change derives from generational replacement [Field Poll (pdf)]
