Grand Rounds
2008-06-03 14:41:00 Grand Rounds 4.37 is now up and running over at The Happy Hospitalist. (The picture above is actually from an earlier post this week - not from the GR post. I know, not fair. But, admit it, it caught your attention, didn't it?).I admit (again) that I've been a bad medblogger in that I haven't been that consistent in contributing posts to GR. Of course, that would mean that I would have to write meaningful posts to submit. Anyway, I'll try again to write some content for GR. Thanks to The Happy Hospitalist for including my post this week:Unabated physician bashing. Haven't you heard? All doctors hate gay people. Doctor Anonymous points out the blatant assault on physician rights. If you don't know what Grand Rounds is, it is a weekly compilation of the best posts from the medical blogosphere that moves to different sites each week. New SQL Attack Making The Rounds
2008-05-07 17:14:00 A new SQL Injection attack is making the rounds. There is a great analysis of the attack over on Shadowserver Foundation. From Shadowserver: As predicted, the attacks against ASP and ASP.NET pages via SQL injection have continued. This time the domain name “winzipices.cn” is in the spotlight. It has managed to find itself in the source of over 4,000 pages according to Google. ISC has also has a short diary today mentioning this attack here. It turns out this is also something we have been taking a look at now for a few days. With that being said, we would like to share some information that can help protect end users and organizations. It would appear that our attackers in this instance are taking advantage of the same issues we have discussed in some of our recent postings. However, we do know that the malware and malicious file trail here are different than the last few attacks. For the full analysis read on. Article Link

NFL Draft Team Grades (Rounds 1-2)
2008-04-27 17:45:00 The first two rounds of the 2008 NFL Draft were full of surprises, intrigue and many perplexing decisions involving the wide receiver crop. Potential Targets For Rounds 2 & 3
2008-04-25 13:00:00 We are now just one day away from the 2008 NFL Draft and, like many of you, I can’t wait to get this thing started. In particular, I’m very excited to see what the Dolphins do with their 2 second rounders on Saturday. Usually, I’d do a little mock draft and attempt to predict who the Dolphins might take. Of course, some might say it’s easier this year to predict correctly because of the fact that we already know who Miami’s first pick will be. However, that’s not true. This year is as hard as ever because of whom the Dolphins have running the show (Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland) and their very tight lips. Also complicating things is all this Jason Taylor trade talk that is going on right now. So because of that, I’m going to take a different approach. Instead of trying to predict who they will take, I’ll instead lay out some positions and players who I feel the Dolphins might target between ro...

Grand Rounds Episode V
2008-04-01 12:01:00 Welcome to Grand Rounds - sort of. For those of you who do not know, the real host this week is the one and only Grunt Doc. But, if didn't know already, he could not handle the entire GR himself. It's hard to explain. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then start with the Grunt Doc blog this week and you'll eventually end up here. For those of you who are up to speed and are bounced here from the Medgadget blog, I encourage you to watch my video post above. Here is a presentation of a few links that I have been allowed to present: Kerri Morrone blogs about Diabetes Alert Day. ERNursery goes off on JCAHO, er, The Joint Commission (TJC) on the wonderful area of hospital medication reconciliation. Neurmed explains how expensive placebos work better. The How To Cope with Pain blog states there are new DEA rules allowing 90 day prescription of pain meds. Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock: Rounds 6, 7
2008-03-21 12:19:00 We've finally reached it, fellow Rumblers. Today marks the finale to the Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock which has sparked excellent conversation and debate throughout this week. The picks aren't interesting, and they're not meant to be; they have to be made, however, and you might learn a thing or two about some late-round draft prospects that may end up being Buffalo Bills in late April. Once again, the four authors of this blog - sireric, jri111, Kurupt and myself - have had a lot of fun putting together this mock for everyone to critique, and we plan on doing it once more right before the draft. (Don't forget that we'll be discussing the SB Nation Mock Draft as well, which is set to start relatively soon as well - more details on that coming soon.) We think this mock has gone well, but we know it can be better - that's where y'all come in. We'd like you to tell us what you liked and disliked about our little undertaking, not only from a picks/strategical standpoint,...
Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock: Rounds 4, 5
2008-03-20 11:27:00 Why do I love this blog? Because no matter what project we're undertaking, Buffalo Bills fans far and wide can bring each other down a peg. We're all equals here, and y'all have proven that through the first three days of this week as we've unveiled the Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock. I applaud each and every one of you who have taken the time to share your thoughts on the Bills' roster over the past few days, and offer further applause to those of you who have taken the time to critique our mock selections intelligently. We encourage you to keep up the good work - we've had fun defending our selections (well, I've had fun reading your comments while on vacation, at least), and we're learning a lot as we plan to do a similar project much closer to draft day. The first three rounds are in the books. Discussions on those selections have been outstanding. Here are our fourth and fifth round picks; once again, we can't wait to hear what y'all have got to say about not o...

2008-03-17 06:25:00 THE EXPERTS DRAFT ROUND 1 ROUND 1, PICK 1 Alex Rodriguez, 3B, NYY This pick was more or less a no-brainer. ROUND 1, PICK 2 Jose Reyes, SS, NYM With A-Rod going first, I was left with the choice of Reyes or Hanley...

Mock Draft: Analysis (First Four Rounds)
2008-02-25 02:30:00 Looking at the Mock Draft Fantasy Hurler's Bob Taylor was recently invited to participate in, here are my impressions:Round OneBest Pick: A-Rod at number one. Way to toe the line.Worst Pick: There's no obvious problem picks in round one (not a surprise), but I have to question Pujols over Fielder. That owner should have been thanking his lucky stars that a fairly equivalent player to a healthy Pujols (and Pujols ain't healthy) fell that far. Strange Pick: David Wright over Hanley Ramirez. Well, I can only imagine that this owner is worried about Ramirez's shoulder surgery (no spring training ball, yet). While it's tough to argue with caution in round one, I don't know about this move.Round TwoBest Pick: B.J. Upton sliding all the way to the end of the round. Worst Pick: I can see why the Pujols owner grabbed Crawford, but if you need steals that badly Alfonso Soriano or Grady Sizemore might go 35/35 and have more impressive 5x5 track records. Also, the Brandon Phillips pick ma...

2008-02-12 23:01:00 Grand Rounds 4.21 is now up and running over at HealthBlawg: David Harlow's Health Care Law Blog. Spies To Ride Both US MotoGP Rounds
2008-02-07 23:34:00 There had already been plenty of speculation, but now there's yet more confirmation: Ben Spies is getting ready to make the switch to MotoGP. On Thursday, he told Roadracing World that he'll be racing both US MotoGP rounds, at both Indianapolis and Laguna Seca. He also told Roadracing World that he hopes to have two tests lined up on the Suzuki GSV-R MotoGP bike before the races. This would allow Spies to arrive at the races reasonably well-prepared, and given that Laguna Seca is one of Spies' favorite tracks, and a track he is nigh on unbeatable at, it raises hopes that Spies could actually be competitive there. Spies has a contract with Yoshimura Suzuki until the end of 2008, and plans to move to MotoGP in 2009, reportedly in a team to be run by Spies' friend and mentor Kevin Schwantz. But as he told Roadracing World, "nothing's signed yet."

Wage Rows And Expensive Rounds
2008-01-28 00:07:00 The Sunday paper round-up of lies, speculation and half-truths is as unedifying as always. The News of the World claim Dean Ashton is heading for a major showdown with the club after being left behind in the salary stakes. It is reported that Ashton wants to double his current £23,000- a-week wage following the arrival of Freddie Ljungberg, Craig Bellamy and Kieron Dyer whose wages dwarf the striker's. Now, with Arsenal and Newcastle United supposedly showing interest in him, Ashton wants to renegotiate his contract. In addition, Upton Park captain Lucas Neill will not be far behind Ashton when it comes to knocking on the door over money. The article states both are upset that they are now way down the club's pay scale following the influx of big names during the summer. Ljungberg, 30, arrived from Arsenal on a free transfer and his deal and image rights is worth a staggering £80,000 a week. Bellamy, Dyer and Scott Parker are not that far behind and that has created simmering tens...
