World Series fans! Step back to October 8, 1956 and Don Larsen's 'Perfect'

Yogi Berra leaps into the arms of perfect game World Series pitcher Don Larsen on October 8, 1956, image by wallyg via FlickrBy BOB ANDELMAN (email) Lew Paper had to be wondering if it was a good thing or a bad thing ? for him ? when, a few weeks ago, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw the first no-hitter in post-season competition in 54 years against the hapless Cincinnati Reds.  --------------Listen to my LEW PAPER interview!-------------- After all, Paper had just launched his new book, Perfect: Don Larsen?s Miraculous World Series Game and the Men Who Made It Happen, and Halladay?s achievement could have potentially taken away from or added to the lustre of what the little-known Yankees pitcher accomplished back in 1956 against the Brooklyn Dodgers. For my money, I think Halladay ? who has been a consistently awesome pitcher throughout his career ? only served to remind us what a gem a no-hitter is and how rare getting one in the post-season really is. JP Anger, Roy Halladay to LAA & Free Randy Ruiz
2009-07-24 18:56:00
JP Anger, Roy Halladay to LAA & Free Randy Ruiz As we all know by now, yesterday Roy Halladay gave JP a list of teams that he’d be willing to move to. This promoted me to tweet my thoughts. Eyebeleaf over at the great Sports and the City tweeted back. And then things broke down MUD (mopupduty) Halladay ...
Random Roy Halladay to Philly Thoughts
2009-07-20 19:39:00
Random Roy Halladay to Philly Thoughts Before we get going you might want to check out the fresh ESPN video from 11am this morning: Quote for Insider If the Jays know they won’t be able to re-sign Halladay after the 2010 season — and the guess here is that Halladay already has indicated to the Jays, respectfully and ...
The Cardinals Will Kick the Tires on Roy Halladay
2009-07-11 03:35:00
Cardinals sources confirmed to me this afternoon at Wrigley Field that they are interested in acquiring All Star pitcher Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays. Tonight the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper quotes Cardinals GM John Mozeliak on his interest in kicking the tires on a potential trade for Halladay. Should "Doc" Halladay end up in St. Louis you can print the playoff tickets in the Arch City because that will put them over the top in a very mediocre divisional race. The Cubs are 4 1/2 back after today's loss and unless they can turn things around the rest of the weekend you will find a team 7 1/2 back and fading when the dust settles on the...
Trading Roy Halladay and Long-Term Plans
2009-07-08 19:49:00
Rumors are swirling all over the place regarding the Jays dealing Doc Halladay. The front page of ESPN Baseball is a Halladay watch zone, so I won’t go into rumors here. Instead, let’s look at some of the viable options going forward. I find it very difficult to imagine a world in which the Jays can ...
Roy Halladay is Baseball?s Most Efficient Pitcher
2009-02-26 10:34:00
Roy Halladay is Baseball’s Most Efficient Pitcher I’ll be honest with you. Due to my disappointment with the Blue Jays lack of off-season activity I was originally going to write a “save Doc for 2010″, with my supporting proof namely being Roy Halladay’s high number of innings pitched over the past three seasons (220, 225, 246). ...
Of panic buttons, home runs, getting caught, and thongs
2008-05-20 02:12:00
Little more than 30 minutes before tipoff and a few topics to consider. It?s only May, and are the Blue Jays pushing the panic button? Looking to keep pace in the AL East the Jays used ace Roy Halladay in relief last night. Toronto topped the Phillies 6-5. Halladay pitched two and a ...

Piece of Shit Likes Roy Halladay
2008-05-15 03:09:00
From the AP:Q: Mr. President, I know you're going to hate this, but I'm hoping that we may twist your arm and talk about baseball for just a moment. (Laughter.) Mr. President, you're a Major League Baseball team owner again. Everyone is a free agent. You have a Yankees-like wallet. Who is your first position player? Who's your pitcher?Bush: That's a great question. I like Ottley [sic] from the Philadelphia Phillies. He's a middle infielder, which is always — you know, they say you have strength up the middle — there's nothing better than having a good person up the middle that can hit. And Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays is a great pitcher. He's a steady guy, he burns up innings. And I'm sure I'm leaving some other good ones out, but those _*Note: At this point I don't have to worry about alienating huge blocks of our audience by calling Bush a piece of shit, do I? I mean,... right? Come on, people! It's 2008! That was pretty much the nicest thing I could thi...
Stock Watch: Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Michael Young
2008-03-17 20:43:00
Brilliant azure sky here in New Haven. The stuff below the sky is pretty much the same, though. Nothing to waste any watercolors on. Still, on days like this, the air seems a little more breathable. I’ve got a carton of OJ, three sun-filled bay windows, and a fantasy column to write. Let’s do this. - So much ...
Roy Halladay pitches 5 solid innings, Blue Jays beat Pirates 4-1 (AP)
2008-03-15 23:51:00
Roy Halladay pitched five solid innings and Matt Stairs hit a two-run double, leading the Toronto Blue Jays past the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 on Saturday. Halladay allowed four hits and struck out four, throwing 44 of his 64 pitches for strikes. “I was a lot more aggressive and threw a lot more strikes early in ...

The White Sox have won five of its last six games and the Blue Jays lost its second straight after winning a season-high five in a row. Buehrle ...
Roy Halladay Hurt All Along?
2007-05-11 16:42:00
Roy Halladay Hurt All Along?       “Roy just isn’t himself this season.” That’s what I said to myself after watching his first outing vs the Tigers on the tube and his second outing against the Rays in person this season. His stuff just seemed more, hittable may be the word. He’s always around the zone, that’s for sure, but his past weak contact was now turning into hard hit balls. Needless to say, the Doc should be sued for malpractice after his past two performances. Is this really his “bad”? In light of the BJ Ryan epic, 600 page yarn that JP Riccardi spun earlier this season, let’s look back to spring training of this season. The following quotes are from the KFFL Feb 8th: The Globe and Mail reports the Toronto Blue Jays are denying SP Roy Halladay is injured, a rumor that popped up when an online chat writer suggested Halladay was suffering forearm tightness. “Doc’s been working out normally and we have no plans...

Roy Halladay

Following the recent admission by Blue Jays' general manger J.P. Ricciardi that he (and the organization) lied to the public about $49MM closer B.J. Ryan's elbow injury, I am looking at ace starter Roy Halladay's awful start tonight in a different light.  Why? This is Halladay's second consecutive 8+ runs-allowed start.  That kind of ineptitude makes me wonder whether the pitcher is dealing with some arm issues.  To feed the wonder, the Jays' announcers mentioned that they don't usually see Halladay throwing so many change-ups. Is there something wrong?  Why are people who watch every start Halladay makes noting he is not throwing the same pitches he normally does?  I don't know, but I do know that any information coming from the  Jays' front office cannot be trusted. Should fantasy owners take a fair value offer for Halladay?  Maybe.
