For every dollar he received for movies such as "Master & Commander" and "Cinderella Man," Crowe's films earned just five U.S. dollars. Yet his "American Gangster," which was not factored into Forbes' calculations, should bump him lower on next year's list. The movie, which cost 100 million U.S. dollars to make, had already earned 173 million dollars worldwide at the box office at the Forbes article's press time. Nicole Kidman also appears on the list, earning about 15 million dollars for "The Golden Compass," which took in just 26 million dollars nationally and 55 million dollars internationally last weekend. "We had a cyclone wire fence between us and this thing just sort of dances in the wind, goes through the hole and goes straight on Denzel's lip," Crowe explained. That "thing" was a tiny bit of spit! "When the director says, 'Cut,' he goes, 'I love the taste of warm saliva in the morning,'" Crowe recounted of Washington's brush off. The veteran actor still shrugs the moment off.
