Aamir dumbstruck by Sachin Tendulkar's acumen in IPL finals
2008-06-04 10:17:00 The IPL mania came to an end, in what was one of the most thrilling finals seen in a long time. Although Mumbaikars missed their team 'Mumbai Indians' in the final, they surely must have considered themselves lucky to get to see a cracker of a contest between two well deserving teams- 'Rajasthan Royals' & 'Chennai Super Kings'. The VIP stand of the swanky D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai saw some bigwigs from the world of politics, business, sports and Bollywood make their presence felt. A rare sight was that of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar enjoying the game with none other than Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. While Aamir has been a lover of the game for a long time, this is the first instance when he took out time for attending the IPL matches. Although the actor was there with his nephew Imran and son Junaid, he seemed to be having a hearty talk with Sachin. The duo seemed quite animated while discussing the finer nuances of the game. And just as the match went down to t...
Aamir Khan on ILP and Sachin
2008-06-03 20:18:00 Here is the latest blog post from Aamir Khan and this time he isn’t dissing anyone but actually praising his peers! Interesting read about IPL and Sachin.Last night I watched the IPL final and what an exciting match it was. I don’t think we could have asked for a better finale to a most entertaining tournament. Rajasthan after beginning as the least likely to win at the start of the tournament went on to win the cup. My congratulations to the Rajasthan team and supporters. Chennai, hard luck but very well fought. Mumbai Indians is the team I’m supporting for obvious reasons, and I was disappointed that we weren’t in the finals, but next time. In fact I think all teams gave it their best but there can only be one winner, and jo jeeta wohi sikander. My guess is that in a very short time we should have the best side on an international level, what with all the young talent being thrown up.The match last night was certainly exciting but what made it a unique expe...

"One-Man-Army" Sachin Tendulkar inspire India to series triumph
2008-03-04 15:35:00 Tendulkar and Praveen inspire India to series triumphIndia 9 for 258 (Tendulkar 91, Bracken 3-31, Clarke 3-52) beat Australia 249 (Hopes 61, Hayden 55, Praveen 4-46) by 9 runs.In the final installment of its 29-year existence, a series that has become a part of Australia's summer culture came to a climactic end with a fitting humdinger at the Gabba.Twenty three years after India's last significant limited-overs title in Australia, Sachin Tendulkar helped script another memorable chapter with an innings of skill and determination. There was to be no repeat of his twin centuries against Australia in 1998, but his 91 set up a total which, backed by Praveen Kumar's subtle-swinging accuracy, proved nine runs too much for Australia. In a game that ebbed and flowed wonderfully, James Hopes took Australia agonisingly close to victory with his maiden fifty after Praveen returned from an 11-run 45th over to snap a threatening eight-wicket stand. Back when Australia dominated this tournament...

Gambhir-Sachin-Azhar-Aus-Ind
2008-02-09 07:32:00 Gambhir's formula for success in Australia India's dashing batsman Gautam Gambhir has devised a simple formula to be successful in Australian conditions in the ongoing cricket tri-series -- see the ball, hit the ball and play in the 'V'. The young Gambhir, the lone centurion in the series so far with a 99-ball unbeaten 102 against Sri Lanka at Brisbane last Tuesday, said the conditions Down Under were conducive for strokeplay and he preferred to meet the ball on the front foot."The plan is simple, see the ball, hit the ball and play in the 'V'. The conditions here give a batsman full value for his strokes though (admittedly) you need a lot of courage and determination," said Gambhir, who joined the Indian squad for the Twenty20 and tri-series matches. "There is a lot of talk that when you come to Australia you play on the backfoot all the time. But if you ask me, the plan should be to meet the ball on the front foot", he said. The Delhi batsman admitted that going on the front...

Sachin creates history, scores 39th hundred !
2008-01-24 12:24:00 What a glorious innings ! His 39th hundred and with his 41 ODI hundreds, he has scored 80 hundreds in international cricket, an enviable record indeed !He remained as the rock of Gibralter, taking on the might of the Aussie pace attack. Assuming the role of sheet anchor, he saw India finish at a respectable 309/5.Sehwag and Laxman scored half centuries, while Dravid and Ganguly did not impress. The Senior players need not lament that they are dropped. We saw a lot of criticism directed at the selectors. They simply opted for youth. The ODI and 20/20 team is different totally from a Test team.

Sachin Tendulkar slams 39th test Century
2008-01-24 07:49:00 ADELAIDE: Sachin Tendulkar was doing the spadework as India were dealt two further blows in the second session by Australia on the opening day of the fourth and final cricket Test at Adelaide Oval here on Thursday. The visitors took tea at 187 for 4 as they lost Virender Sehwag (63) and Sourav Ganguly (7), missing out on a golden opportunity to put early pressure on hosts in the crucial match. Sachin Tendulkar was intent on making his probably last Test in Australia count as the little master serenely crossed his half century and was unbeaten on 55 from 134 minutes of vigil at the crease during which he faced 89 balls and hit five fours and a six. Sehwag chose to cut a rising delivery from Brett Lee, too close to his body, and offered a straightforward catch to Matthew Hayden at first slip. However, the television replays suggested that it was a big no ball from the Australian speedster.Sehwag batted for two-and-a-half hours and hit six fours from 90 balls.Ganguly, probably stil...
'Sir Sachin' if Brown has his way
2008-01-21 06:32:00 NEW DELHI: Can Sachin Tendulkar join the honoured ranks of Sir Don Bradman or Sir Gary Sobers? Well, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown certainly seems to think so. If he had his way, he would recommend the little master for a knighthood. "I would like to see some of the great players of the modern era ? like Sachin Tendulkar ? proposed for honorary awards so the British nation can salute their achievements in these sports." If Brown's remarks come true, we could be looking at the first Indian sports knight. In between courting trade and investment from India and China visiting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown showed where his heart really lay ? at the WACA stadium in Perth. Complimenting India on its test victory over Australia, Brown shed his normally grave countenance. "I congratulate India on a famous victory - beating an Australian side who have won their last 16 games and doing so away from home." England's long cricketing feud with Australia clearly fuelled Brown's ent...

My son told me why don't you hit a six when on 94: Sachin
2007-11-17 18:26:00 If only Sachin Tendulkar had listened to his son, he may have a century of centuries in international cricket now. When the master batsman fell for 97 in the fourth cricket ODI against Pakistan in Gwalior, it was the 23rd time in Tests and ODIs that he has got out in the 90s. In ODIs, he has got out in the 90s as many as 16 times and in Tests seven times. He has 78 centuries to his credit -- 41 in ODIs and 37 in Tests, and the 23 missed ones would have taken his tally to 101. Unbelievably, he has fallen in the 90s seven times this year. Asked about these surprise failures, Tendulkar laughingly disclosed a solution offered by his son. " My son told me why don't you hit a six when on 94"."Well, these things happen. What is most satisfying for me is that we won both the match and the series," he said after India clinched a ODI series triumph over Pakistan on home soil after 24 years by winning the fourth ODI by six wickets. "I guess I got into this wrong habit of getting out in the 90...

2007-11-16 18:10:00 Sachin tendulkar missed another chance to get a century being out at 97 in 4th ODI against Pakistan. He got bowled by Umar Gul, the same bolwer he bowled him at 99 in the 2nd ODI. Sachin has now fallen 6 times this year on 90's, 3 times on 99. Though Sachin Tendulkar couldn't get a century, he played brilliant cricket and helped india clinch the ODI series 3-1 still having 1 match to go. Sachin seemed to be attacking and confident from the brilliant. He showed his versatility hitting a wide range of shots. Its the 6th time this year when cricket fans have seen Sachin Tendulkar getting out on the nervous 90's being very close to the century no.42. Sachin took 5 years to get his first ODI hundred and then went on getting more and more till the 41st but though being very close several times, he has not been able to get the 42nd century. As the first one it seems the 42nd one is going to be a vital if he gets it. This is the 16th time in ODI, Sachin is out in 90's.The confident Sachi...
