Canadian navy rescues Pakistan sailors in Arabian sea
2008-02-06 14:40:00 Ottawa (ANTARA News) - A Canadian Navy patrol frigate rescued two Pakistani sailors while patrolling the Arabian Sea at the weekend, the Navy announced Tuesday. A helicopter of the patrol frigate HMCS Charlottetown was conducting a routine patrol when the crew spotted a barge about 160 km northeast of Muscat, Oman, the Navy said in a statement. “As the helicopter approached, the crew members could see two people aboard waving frantically,” it said. According to the sailors, they were crew members of a vessel which was towing the barge to a scrap-metal yard in Jiwani, Pakistan. Their vessel lost propulsion while they were working on the barge. It later capsized and sank, killing the other five crew members. HMCS Charlottetown is currently deployed in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea as part of Canada`s maritime contribution to the U.S.-led “war on terror”, Xinhua reported. (*)

Drunken Sailors appalled at Napolitano’s State of the State Speech
2008-01-15 21:17:00 In her 6th State of the State Speech, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano looked past Arizona’s looming billion dollar budget and focused on the future of the growing state. The Governor outlined five major areas including: education, economic development, public safety, transportation, and healthcare to focus on the future. The speech was met with some harsh criticism, some of the loudest coming from several drunken sailors who happened to catch the speech while in town on shore leave.“I’ve done me some crazy spending in my day,” slurred Pete Shuttlesworth, a grizzled sailor from a ship known as The Flying Carp, “And I can tell ye this. Her plans be too much in the face of such a large debt. This coming from a man who spent 50 gold pieces on this here tattoo.”Napolitano proposed a free in-state college education for all students with B averages or better starting in 2012, a plan that could cost several million to implement.“Don’t get me wrong, I loves me some spending,...

Sunset Sailors - Song from the Ship
2007-11-28 14:19:00 Sunset SailsSong from the Ship - Thomas Lovell BeddoesTo sea, to sea! The calm is o'er; The wanton water leaps in sport, And rattles down the pebbly shore; The dolphin wheels, the sea-cows snort, And unseen Mermaids' pearly song Comes bubbling up, the weeds among.Fling broad the sail, dip deep the oar:To sea, to sea! the calm is o'er. To sea, to sea! our wide-winged bark Shall billowy cleave its sunny way, And with its shadow, fleet and dark, Break the caved Tritons' azure day, Like mighty eagle soaring light O'er antelopes on Alpine height. The anchor heaves, the ship swings free, The sails swell full. To sea, to sea!More sea poems to read here

Bigger Breasts For Australian Sailors
2007-09-16 13:49:00 Yep, thats right mate...The Labor Party of Australia has discovered that the Navy has been paying $10,000 per sailor, for breast augmentation surgery. The Navy said that sometimes the surgery is needed to improve the psycological health of the female sailors, and it is not done to make the sailors look more sexy. The politicians aren't buying that argument and it looks like the whole thing will be headed into court. Maybe the Navy should argue that it improves the morale of the male sailors, and makes the uniforms fit better as well. Anyway, it's better than spending the money to wage war.

Pirates release 2 Indonesian sailors for ransom
2007-08-27 10:11:00 Pirates who kidnapped two Indonesian sailors in the Malacca Strait earlier this month have released them after a ransom was paid, a global maritime watchdog said today.Noel Choong, head of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy reporting center in Kuala Lumpur, said the value of the ransom has not been disclosed, and he declined to identify who paid it.Gun-toting pirates attacked a Malaysian barge on Aug. 13 and abducted the vessel's Indonesian ship master and chief engineer. The pirates did not steal the barge, or any of the steel billets it was carrying from Malaysia's northern state of Penang to Belawan in Indonesia. It was the third pirate attack in the Malacca Strait this year, but the first kidnapping in the busy waterway since July 2005.The strait is notorious for robberies and hijackings but the number of attacks has fallen since Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, which share the waterway, launched coordinated maritime and air patrols in recent years to curb piracy. So...

BBC Apologizes for Calling Sailors 'Hostages'
2007-05-06 13:31:00 via littlegreenfootballs.comThe source for this story is yet another Peace/Justice/Fluffy Bunny/Death to America group (with an interesting board of directors) calling itself the Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran. For some reason this tends to make me doubt their credibility. But they?re reporting that the BBC has apologized for describing the British sailors captured by Iran as ?hostages:? BBC News apologises for misleading reports on Iran. They seem to be agitating behind the scenes to push the BBC even further into multicultural lala land. The BBC internal complaints department today apologised for describing Iran as having ?abducted? the 15 British sailors and marines in a news report on the 25th March. It also apologised for repeatedly referring to the British service personnel as ?hostages? in news reports. The apology, in response to complaints from the international campaign group, CASMII, failed however to offer a full explanation on ho...

Please do not call our 15 Sailors cowards.
2007-04-09 11:57:00 To those who would call others cowards without being in their shoes I ask: What would you do? spend seven years in the prison of a violent and corrupt nation, or make a false confession that the world will know was made under duress. These people have spent the majority of their adult lives away from their families in service of their country. Please before you call the Navy a bunch of cowards and wankers seriously consider what you would do in their situation. Some people seriously need to stop reading war comics. Do you think that Iran would have let them go without a confession? or do you think they would have increased the abuse and kept them captive until they did confess? Lets get something straight: they were not prisoners of war, the 15 did not give away state secrets, they merely took part in a charade initiated by a corrupt government so that they could return home to their families. Imagine the choice: you put on a suit, you shake my hand and smile or it's back to the wa...
