'Next Top Model' Saleisha Stowers bucks trend

Saleisha Stowers, the latest winner of "America's Next Top Model," is one tough cookie."It takes a strong black woman to get out there and work the fashion industry," Stowers said in an interview with Newsday. "And I am a strong black woman."Stowers will need to be strong. The modeling world, which The CW's "Top Model" demonstrates repeatedly, is not for the faint of heart. It also doesn't seem to be the place where there are many African-Americans."I would love to see more African-American faces," Stowers says. "We are beautiful. 2008-01-09 04:32:00 Check out the actual cover of ANTM's most recent winner Saleisha on Seventeen. She seems to rub some the wrong way, but I liked her. I thought she had a pretty nice personality, she very commercial but that's more realistic for a 20-something breaking into the industry.She hasn't gone without controversy... Her eligibility was questioned because she has done print work [wig model] and television [Wendy's commercial] which is a ANTM contract no-no. Plus she attended Tyra's T-Zone camp, which was mentioned on the show. But her time to shine has just begun because now the Top Model winner is on the February 2008 dual issue of Seventeen magazine along with Vanessa Anne Hudgens. In the article, she talks about how her grandmother raised her until she was 17 because both of her parents were on drugs and her mother was bipolar.
