Man Sues Salvation Army for injuries sustained at West 63rd Street location
2009-08-21 00:26:00
A Chicago man is suing the Salvation Army for injuries he alleges he sustained at the West 63rd Street location in Chicago.  In a complaint filed today in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Anthony Herron describes himself as "a beneficiary in a charitable program conducted by the Defendant," and while performing activities consistent with that program, "wood boards fell on top of him." Herron asserts that the Salvation Army, among other things, "failed to properly place and organize the wood boards," which caused him to fall to the ground and land on a hand jack, sustaining injury. Looking at the calendar, I see we are nearing the end of November and inching our way into December. Cold weather has presented itself and it feels like Christmas. Stores are in the spirit, and the bell ringers are standing by the entrance to shops, hoping for a great year of charitable collections. read more

This is just another assault on Americans courtesy of Democrats in Congress. The tactic is no different of that of extortionists, with the victim being the American people.

Salvation Army: Hot Soup in a Five-Week Welfare Month
2007-08-28 16:47:00
A mob of people, roughly two hundred, milled around on the sidewalk around the Salvation Army soup truck last Tuesday night. Every Tuedsay night, the truck pulls up in front of the Main Street court house, near the police station on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. But the crowd was bigger than usual on Tuesday night because people were entering the final week of a five-week welfare month. The welfare cheques come out tomorrow, August 29th. The Salvation Army truck –which is like a french fry truck with a small side window –came prepared. There was no shortage of food. People lined up for a bowl of vegetable beef soup with bread.; many lined up for a second bowl. They stood around talking and eating the soup as well as sandwiches which are given out at a table near the truck; usually the sandwiches are peanut butter and stawberry jam. A woman in her eighties showed up, as she regularly does, to hand out fresh baked raison bread and scones, slathered with butter, tha...

Bush & The Salvation Army
2007-04-29 03:38:00
Note: Originally published as a guest editorial in my hometown newspaper, July 2001My husband and I discussed faith‑based initiatives often since President Bush raised the issue. Our neighbors might call it arguing. What they may not understand is that if one cannot not discuss an issue with passion (a.k.a. volume), it isn't worth discussing in the first place. It's not that we're on opposite sides of the issue. We're much closer than that. I'm foursquare against it. Separating church from state is good for religious freedom, and even better for the rest of the freedoms we hold dear. I’m not anti religious, I’m anti moral superiority. He is, or more accurately was, neutral on the question. He believed it could be a good thing if handled correctly. Religious institutions can be closer to the people who need services. What won him over to my position was the Salvation Army document exposed by The Washington Post. The internal and private communique, states t...

Toko Komura - Japanese Salvation Army School Teacher in Kingston
2007-04-16 02:03:00
Toko Komura is from Kanagwa (Chigasaki) near Tokyo in Japan. Trained in tutoring the blind, she now teaches swimming and physical education at the Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston. A love affair with the sea and with children has made this the perfect career choice for her. "I love feeling free and I am an energetic person, so I go to the sea every week. Looking up at the sky every day and swimming in the pool also make me feel free," she tells Outlook. Toku came to Jamaica, she said, because "one of my dreams was to work with children all over the world. I love swimming and so when the Japanese Overseas Volunteer programme asked for a swimming instructor, it was my joy and my dream come true. I took the examinations and passed, now I am here." At the Salvation Army School for the Blind, the instructor says, "Everyone calls me Ms. Toko. I take care of the pool every day so students name the pool 'Ms. Toko's baby'. I feel happy when I hear that." japanese flag Some ...

Growing up I donated plenty of quarters to the bank of prize dispensing machines outside my local Loblaws.Over time I acquired an impressive collection of marbles, miniature cars, glow-in-the-dark bits of plastic, toy soldiers, superballs, lick 'em & stick 'em tattoos, and other similarly noneducational junk. But I don't recall any anatomical models of the female urogenital system complete with removable full-term fetus. Not a one.
Salvation Army kettle turned into pot o? gold
2006-12-08 20:24:02
Amidst the crass commercialization of the Christmas holiday, the following story is a rare gem that reflects what this season is supposed to represent — generous giving to others: BARRE, Vt. (AP) ? With the drop of a single coin into a Salvation Army holiday collection kettle, the group may have been enriched by as much as $14,000. The donated 1908 Indian head coin has a face value of $2.50, said Capt. Louis Patrick. It’s worth at least at $250 and possibly as much as $14,000, according to a preliminary analysis. “I was shocked,” Patrick said. “I’ve heard of this happening in other places, but I’ve never actually seen it.” The coin was enclosed in a protective plastic case. “It was an incredibly generous thing to do,” Patrick said. “We are very appreciative.” The Salvation Army plans to have the coin appraised and sold, possibly before the end of the holiday season. “One hundred percent of the money will ...
