2007-11-01 11:45:00 The Harris Fire just went over the peak of this mountain after midnight on 10/23/2007. Harris Fire Harris Ranch Road & Hwy 94 San Diego County This fire has burned 90,440 acres and is 95 percent contained. The fire started on October 21 and is burning at Harris Ranch Road and both sides of Highway 94 in Portrero in San Diego County. Full containment is expected October 31. There have been 21 civilian and 32 firefighter injuries, as well as five deaths on this fire. 211 homes and 262 outbuildings have been destroyed, and 259 additional structures are damaged. Damage assessments, inspections and are in progress. All evacuations have been lifted. Re-entry for residents only is being allowed. 2,214 firefighters are assigned under a unified command. A military aerial infrared platform is being used to identify remaining hot spots. The estimated cost of this fire to date is $15.1 million.

2007-10-24 17:59:00 I just wanted to update all of you faithful readers of my blog...I apologize for not blogging as normal this week but if you haven't heard about the San Diego county wildfires that started on Sunday, I urge you to check out the news wherever you can. Several different wildfires started around the county and due to the Santa Ana winds, has charred most of my town like a torch. It's been so out of control here that they've called it Firestorm 2007 and it's been even more destructive than the Cedar Fires in the area 4 years ago. So far 560,000 San Diego county residents have been evacuated from their homes and over 1,000 houses have been destroyed. That doesn't even include all the businesses and acres that have been charred. Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, is being used as the largest evacuation center here.The air quality right now is so terrible and immediately I noticed the affects on my throat and voice.
