New York Giants @ San Francisco 49ers NFC Championship Game Preview
2012-01-18 18:45:00
NY Giants @ San Francisco  This game has an old school kind of feel to it, between 1981 and 1993 these teams slugged it out in the playoffs 6 times with both teams winning 3 a piece with the likes of Montana, Young & Rice going at it against Simms, Taylor & Ingram. The current (Read More...)
NFL Week 8 Preview: Cleveland Browns @ San Francisco 49ers
2011-10-27 05:37:00
Sports Betting Overview The Cleveland Browns are starting to feel the same growing pains that any improving team would feel. The problem for the Browns is that these pains are real. Running back Peyton Hillis is still unable to play and wide receivers Josh Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi are still recovering from injuries. The wide receivers may play, but they will not be at full speed. Hillis will be out for this game against San Francisco. The price per head sports injuries that the Browns are suffering contributed to the lack of offense in week seven against the Seattle Seahawks. Cleveland could only muster two field goals in that game, and things do not propose to be any better against the San Francisco 49ers. The San Francisco 49ers do not do any single thing particularly well. But the 49ers win games because it does know how to play well in important situations. It was no small feat to hand the Detroit Lions its first loss of the season after destroying the Tampa Bay Bucca...
NFL Week 4 Game Preview: San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles
2011-09-29 06:59:00
Online Betting Overview The Philadelphia Eagles are in huge trouble. Aside from being 1-2 to start the season, the Eagles are incapable of protecting quarterback Michael Vick. Philadelphia and Vick can complain about the officiating all they want. But if the offensive line takes the steps to put a stop to late hits, then those hits are less likely to happen. Many of those ?late hits? are also follow-throughs from defensive linemen making legal and clean plays. The worst hit Vick has sustained this season was from his own offensive lineman who was standing around as Vick was being thrown to the ground. The offensive line and Michael Vick are not working together and it is causing all kinds of problems. Running back LeSean McCoy doesn?t seem to be having any issues with the offensive line as he is averaging more than 100 rushing yards and a touchdown per game. Once the Eagles figure out its problems on offense, then it is time to figure out the issues on defense. The San Fra...
Happy New Year! Oh By The Way You?re Fired!
2008-12-29 18:52:00
The end of the NFL season is upon us now so that means only one thing. It’s firing time for coaches whose teams underperformed or didn’t make the playoffs. First up on the list is Rod Marinelli. He was fired by the Detroit Lions today after guiding the team to an 0-16 record. You can’t really fault ...

The Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues... My daughter spilled something into my keyboard, causing almost all of the keys to randomly stick and drive me completely insane. So if this column sucks, blame it on my keyboard not working right. By the way, I?ve wondered why there are so many Raiders articles on this site as well. My theory: Anonymous is a Raiders fan. Pick No. 29: San Francisco 49ers This type of stuff entertains me. The 49ers trade into the end of the first round last year and out of this season?s first round because they think they?re going to be a playoff team in 2008. Now, I?m not claiming to be any type of personnel ...

2008-03-17 05:52:00
The San Francisco 49ers have decided to cut wide receiver Darrell Jackson after just one season with the franchise. The 29-year-old was acquired in a draft-day trade with the Seattle Seahawks last April in exchange for a fourth-round pick. He started 15 games last season for the 49ers, managing 46 receptions for 497 yards and three ...

San Francisco 49ers sign last of decent WR's on Free Agency Market
2008-03-15 00:18:00
...UPDATE... The 49ers have released Veteran WR Darrell Jackson... Pro Football Talk lists the Bucs as a possible destination. At this point, why not? Bring in a cagillion players at one position and see who sticks. The 49ers have signed WR Bryant Johnson to a 1 Year deal, wow, one year? That's pretty sad. He clearly had a better position playing time wise with the Bucs and you would think monetarily as well with all the money the Bucs are throwing at free agents ($6mil to Dunn?)... Plus, the 49ers already have: Isaac Bruce, Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill at Wide Receiver. He's gonna have to battle (as he has his entire career) three receivers for a spot, much less the ball. Compare that to the Bucs Corps: Joey Galloway, Ike Hilliard, ???????, ????????, and ????????.. None of our other options are better than Bryant Johnson and Johnson would have easily been the #2 receiver.. ah well. Here's to you staying healthy this season and being able to re-coup ...

The 2007 NFL football season has been great. Although I can?t remember a football season that I didn?t enjoy, this year was so chock full of headlines and interesting stories, it would take days to cover them all. Throw in my first full season of NFL Sunday Ticket, and you?ve got yourself a

San Francisco 49ers: A Season Of Disappointment?
2007-10-23 14:22:00
The 49ers entered the 2007 season with high expectations.  2nd-year QB Alex Smith showed exponential gorwth over his rookie season in 2005 going from one TD pass in nine games to 16 over that same number of games in 2006.  RB Frank Gore also exploded exponentially going from 608 yards to 1,695 while also catching 61 passes, a four-fold increase over his 2005 totals. Assuming continued growth, albeit measured in non-exponential ways, for both Gore and Smith in combination with the acquistion of WR Darrell Jackson via trade from division rival Seattle and the selection of Mississippi LB Patrick Willis in the 1st round had all football punditry predicting a great 2007 season. To quote Doug Farrar of Pro Football Prospectus:The NFC West is ripe for the picking, and our projections give San Francisco the best chance to win the division, by a fraction over Seattle.  In 2008, that gap will be more than just a fraction.  The franchise that was in complete chaos a couple ...
Can We Give The Rookie Of The Year To Adrian Peterson Early?
2007-10-15 07:09:00
Without a doubt, Adrian Peterson has stuck out head and shoulders above the rest of the the rookie class of 2007. While Marshawn Lynch has done great in Buffalo with his rough style, Peterson is completely blowing defenses out of the water. Adrian is doing what Reggie Bush was supposed to do last year. Like ...

It's time for our weekly look at the latest intellectual debates taking place on sports message boards.ChargersTalk: "The Official Sympathy for Norv Turner and the Chargers Thread. Guys, lets cut this guy some slack please. Give him another chance. Afterall, it takes more than a head coach to lose a game ... Lets hang in there and stop calling for our GM's head too because, he really try to do the best he could given the situation ... I wouldnt mind Norv pulling a motivational stunt and actually flying Marty in to give the players a speech. Hang in there guys, we still have a long way to go. R.I.P. Bill Walsh
2007-07-31 16:51:00
Yesterday afternoon, the NFL lost a legend in former San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Bill Walsh. Walsh, who was 75 years old, lost a long battle with leukemia. The coach will be most remembered for pioneering the West Coast Offense, which is used by many current NFL teams, such as the Green Bay Packers While not a flashy offense the West Coast style played to a quarterback's strengths by using short, high-percentage passes. Many of today's NFL coaches are disciples of Walsh. Mike Holmgren was once an assistant for Walsh before turning the Green Bay Packers into an NFL powerhouse during the 1990s. Other coaches such as George Seifert, Dennis Green, and Jim Fassell, all were assistant coaches for Walsh. However, the list doesn't stop there. Tony Dungy, Lovie Smith, Jon Gruden, Mike McCarthy, Mike Shanahan, and Andy Reid, are all products of the Bill Walsh coaching tree.

The Glorious Guest Post: San Francisco, On My Mind...

Hello, friends. My name is Ted. By this point, you probably know that I do most of my word-smithing over at this site, but occasionally I contribute elsewhere, such as Sports Flow. Today, I'm doing just that, with a look at the Bay Area's Athletic Renaissance. It's a bad time to live in Dallas - think Romo's lack of ability to grab a snap, Dirk's proven ability to become a 3rd grade school girl in the playoffs, and the Rangers in general - or Houston (the Texans as a whole, T-Mac this postseason, and the current state of the Astros) - or even Washington (the Skins were laughable this past season, the Nats might break the single-season loss record, and the Wizards were swept in Round 1). But, it's a good time to live in the Bay Area. It's funny how things ebb and flow so quickly in terms of the geographic distribution of sports success. The A's and Giants have been good for a while - 2005 and 2006 were actually the Giants first losing seasons since 1996 - and the Sharks are alw...
49ers Draft 2007

There are seven rounds in the NFL draft, with 32 picks in each round, for a total of 224 picks. There are also some additional compensatory picks, of which there were 31 this year throughout the draft. My team, the San Francisco 49ers, had a good draft this year. We took nine players in the first ...
