Don?t Feed Your Dog Dog
2009-01-30 01:03:00 The Animal Protection Institute reports that, along with poisoned animals, myriad other indigestible materials deemed ?unfit for human consumption? (a pretty low standard to begin with), including rancid oils, moldy grains, chemical-laden milling byproducts, urine, feces, and filthy slaughterhouse waste, end up in the so-called food we feed our animal companions.

TRACK AND FIELD PREVIEW in San Francisco Chronicle
2008-03-26 16:19:00 HIGHER, FASTER, FARTHERNorthern California schools continue to put out top athletes Mitch Stephens, Special to The Chronicle Wednesday, March 26, 2008 (03-25) 21:54 PDT -- Few thought Kevin Craddock could be topped, but David Klech followed. Many thought the 2006 state girls crown shared by James Logan-Union City would be a long-standing highlight, then Northern California girls teams took the first five places at last year's state meet. East Bay girls, led by Jamesha Youngblood (Hercules) and Ke'Nyia Richardson (Holy Names-Oakland), piled up 10 first- or second-place medals at the 2007 state meet. It's hard to imagine Bay Area high school track and field getting much better than the last three seasons, but as James Logan coach Lee Webb said this week, "We'll sure give it a good try. (The area) might not reach those marks or accomplish those things but I think we can come pr...

San Francisco Chronicle - Top 100 Wines
2007-12-03 16:31:00 Yesterday, the San Francisco Chronicle picked their Top 100 Wines. It is what the Chron refers to as "Best of the West."I am happy to see that the Chron has at least recognized 12 wines from Washington State and out of the 12, five of them were from Walla Walla. Of course, this is my opinion, but I think it has been a difficult move on many of the merchants and wine writers out of Northern California to give much recognition to the great wines that are coming out of the State of Washington. But it isn't just my opinion - San Francisco-ite Alder Yarrow of Vineography pointed out the same in his blog of June 2007 with how ashamed he was with his city of San Francisco for not giving Washington wines the recognition they deserve. Overall, Washington and Oregon wines made up about 21% of the wine list. Okay. Not bad. Considering the list was put together by Jon Bonné, who use to work for MSNBC in Seattle and wrote the following in his former blog, Amuse-Bouche: "I’m rather sick of W...
Typical Liberals: The San Francisco Chronicle deceives its readers through
2007-11-24 21:44:00 The comments after the post are well worth reading as well. It is very insightful as to the political affiliations of the people commenting. Read it and you'll see what I mean. I had to chuckle at one person that thought just calling someone an "idiot" constituted excessive personal attacks. Obviously they have never been to any Democrat forums online. ~RJH The following piece is an excellent illustration of the way the left live and breathe hypocrisy. SFGate has been selectively deleting reader comments but in a very insidious way. Now they absolutely do have the right to moderate their own forum any way they want. It is privately owned and therefore is not censorship as such. However, they should at least acknowledge what they are doing and that is the crux of the matter. They are doing it in such a way that the readers do not know their comments are being deleted. They can still see them just fine but nobody else can. Places like Democratic Underground and Daily K...
E-voting company slapped with lawsuits for terminal stupidity
2007-11-21 15:51:00 Both the city of San Francisco and California State Secretary Debra Bowen have sued electronic voting machine maker ES&S for selling uncertified and untested voting machines to California counties. The lawsuits come on the heels of Bowen ordering thousands of the machines decertified for basically being crap in a box. Bowen is seeking $15 million in damages from her own lawsuit, and the City by the Bay’s additional suit could pile millions more on top of that. How did this ever come to pass? Among other things, ES&S apparently not only lied about the true nature of the machines (that they were new, uncertified versions), but failed to disclose that the machines were partially manufactured overseas, and threatened to hold Bowen personally responsible if her investigations revealed any trade secrets. From the Chronicle article: California only learned about the changes when an ES&S representative inadvertently mentioned the new version of the AutoMARK in a telephone ...

Zodiac - Dir: David Fincher
2007-10-23 09:55:00 This is a superlative film in every area. As you would expect from David Fincher, the film looks great giving the audience an extra filthy look to every scene. The script is also great and even though this has a 2h 30 mins running time, you are hooked by the twists and turns in the story. Based on true events surrounding the infamous Zodiac killer in America in the 1960s and 1970s, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a cartoonist on the San Francisco Chronicle who doggedly keeps on the case when others fall by the wayside over the years. Some excellent performances from Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo make this an essential watch this year. This is a JM RECOMMENDS.

Mea Culpa: The San Francisco Chronicle Is, In Fact, Partly Right
2007-06-19 04:36:00 There are two lessons here: First, read the whole article before dismissing it out of hand. Second, real estate now is, more than ever, hyper-local. In my article yesterday about the San Francisco Chronicle’s Coverage of Bay Area real estate news, I implied I thought they were way off base. I stand by my assertion that ...

Steroid Era News: San Francisco Chronicle Agrees to Contempt
2006-10-27 21:09:05 According to a court filing Thursday, the San Francisco Chronicle has agreed to be held in contempt of court for refusing to assist a federal grand jury probing who leaked the secret testimony from the BALCO grand jury. The agreement is largely procedural, allowing the entire case to move before the appeals court which will ultimately decide if the fines and prison terms for its journalists, Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wadaand are to be upheld. The newspaper joined its two employees in their refusal to assist the government?s investigation into the leaked grand jury documents and testimony. The government would like the newspaper to reveal the source or to compel their employees to do so. The Chronicle, like the reporters, claims the First Amendment protects them, a position a federal judge has rejected several times.Under the deal between the Chronicle and federal prosecutors, which is pending approval by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White, the newspaper agreed to pay a fine of a... |
